**SQL COMMANDS**
Get the port which the DB is bound to:
SHOW GLOBAL VARIABLES LIKE 'PORT';
give perms to the kodi bot user (osmc in this case, YMMV)
GRANT ALL ON . TO 'osmc';
Notes:
One some linux platforms, you can also get the port-process binding from the command line with:
netstat -tlnp
(look at the last column for mysql)
However on Synology, the process fields come up empty for me.

Thank you for the great series. One question. Can the central database be a simple, external hardrive (USB), rather than a NAS. Thanks

Great video. This explained a lot and in an efficient manner. When using a NAS and SQL how do I do everything you described but use my current library watched history?

I think what you're asking is how do you migrate an existing KODI to [NAS + external DB] from [local file store + default local DB] & preserve the watched history? If so, you could just export the library metadata to (*.NFO) files, and then in the advancedsettings.xml you add this: true true And then you move all content to your NAS, configure your new DB, & then start the import. The watched histories should be stored in all the NFO files & those settings in the advanced settings.xml will bring them into the new external DB. See these links: kodi.wiki/view/Import-export_library/Video kodi.wiki/view/Advancedsettings.xml
