This is my second time watching this Series. I do not have words to convey my Thank You and appreciation for this series. I have Four JD 317's and I need to rebuild two of my engines. I am older and don't do this, but I need my tractors. I wish he would have provided links for parts. Does anyone have a recommendation for parts/kits?
Thanks for making videos on this. I picked up a JD 317 last week in sorta rough cosmetic shape with a KT17QS that had thrown a rod. The plan was to pick up a new crank, rods and pistons and rebuild it if the block wasn't damaged and spruce the tractor up too. I didn't realize how many steps it was to take these apart compared to the briggs boxer engines, but the kohlers seem to be of much better quality. Worst case I'll part the engine and use that money to modify a 999cc generac ohvi engine I have laying around to run the deere. Edit: just got it tore down. Looks like the only part of the block that took a hit was the jug on the side that let go. It took a chunk out of the sleeve, but it isn't too bad. I'm gonna give it the green light for rebuild... and it looks to be a series 2 with the pressurized oil system. Can't wait to dunk it in the ultrasonic cleaner.
Garebears Garage I went to look for the manual from kohler and was unable to find it. Any recommendations? Great video, I'm jumping in to my rebuild of mine. Videos are a big help!
