Kohler faucet cartridge repair. Water was leaking out of the cold water handle on my bathroom faucet. This video is a tutorial on how to replace the cold water cartridge on a kohler faucet. The original one lasted about 10 years. The part number for the replacement is: GP77006-RP, available from online retailers - i purchased mine from Home Depot for $14.47

Great video. I used it to replace the cold water cartridge GP77006-RP on a Devonshire K-393-4-CP. Koehler provided it free of charge under their lifetime warranty policy. I had to use liquid wrench to loosen handle prior to using the wrench (use thick rag to prevent damage). The part comes with a spline adapter, in my case it was not necessary to replace it. 5/8 inch deep socket wrench proved very useful - a fair amount of force was required to remove the cartridge.

Really good point about the lifetime warranty! I should have done what you did and would have saved the money buying one.

I have not been able to loosen the skirt from my Devonshire sink faucet and noticed that you used liquid wrench. First time I've heard of this product. Can you tell me how you applied it to the faucet and would it damage granite? I can usually get this kind of job done with my rubber wrench strap but it's just not gripping the faucet. Thanks

Thanks for this... helped me immensely when I couldn't find a set screw or anything to figure out how the heck to take this faucet apart. Much Appreciated!

If you need to fix a cartridge style Kohler faucet, use this video. Spot on instructions, easy to follow. Others want you to disassemble the sink from the bottom- quite the task. Ignore that. This video makes it clear that you need to have a 5/8” deep socket wrench fitting. A pliers would make a mess of the faucet hardware, since the valve is below the lip of the faucet base. Thankfully, I bought the socket, which made it much easier. Thanks!

Excellent video. My cartridge was seized. I sprayed a healthy amount WD-40 on top of the cartridge and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Used the 5/8 inch socket and with a couple of firm jolts with my hand it came out.

@@apuz13 look down a little further in the comments. Ryan used this method: Try a pass through ratchet with a rubber mallet. Those things can be nasty to get loose.

Thanks for mentioning 5/8 deep socket wrench. That's the key for solving my problem.

Thanks for making this video, it's my exact faucet. It was a lot harder for me to break the fittings loose though, but I eventually fixed it. No more wet counter, yay!

WARNING: We had this exact Kohler Devonshire faucet but it was bought in 2015. The design and disassembly is slightly different. There is a set screw in the handle which must be loosened first. The handle can then be removed. There is a Philips head screw that must then be removed. After you remove the screw you can lift the bell shaped cover. After that is done the removal of the valve and installation is exactly the same.

Found to video to be very useful, and thanks for specifying 5/8 deep socket.

I will never buy Kholer brand faucets again. I just replaced them with Delta. They were leaking and rusting like a motha. I replaced all 5 of them at the same time.

I notice that you are using what looks like the new cartridge for the video, correct? I have a faucet like that also but it was another Kohler with the same leak from the stem seal. I stared with a 3/8" ratchet then to a 3/8" flex or breaker bar but still didn't budge. I was considering a electric impact but removed the other handle, pop up rod to expose the inside. The brass housing had a 1 18" hex so I got a combo wrench(I'm at retired machine repairman) so no problem there. Tried that with the 3/8" breaker bar but still didn't move. Got a 1/2" breaker bar and after several grunts, it broke loose with a loud crack! This was had reddish colored thread locker on it probably Loc-Tite. If that didn't work I would have tried my DeWalt impact driver with the combo wrench. Heat might work but the copper cross- over tubing is soldered right there also. I've seen pictures of one just like you have there with the 5/8" hex rounded right off!!!!

I am thankful I came across this video and your comment. Mine is super seized up and I couldn't get it off with an adjustable wrench. Off to buy a standard deep-socket set right now. I will carry my 1/2" breaker bar with me and pray I don't break anything!

Do you know the model name of this faucet? I'm looking for a parts diagram for it, I've got the exact same one but I'm dripping out the bottom beneath the sink now and I can't figure out what might have given up the ghost.

Would've been great if uploader had operated the faucet. It would have worked as a mini review of the faucet itself.

What name and model number is that Kohler faucet that you repaired? Also, can you use the same cartridge for both sides due to cold is turned clockwise and on the hot water handle is turn counter clockwise. Someone told me to split it? Well Done INFO!!!

Can you replace the o-rings on the cartridges instead of the whole cartridge?
@yeslawrence
@yeslawrence 6 лет назад
There is the one o-ring that you can see at the top of the threads of the cartridge, but I didn't try replacing it, so that might work... I just did the whole thing.
@a01206X16
@a01206X16 6 лет назад
The o-ring only keeps water from leaking into the faucet base. The ceramic valve inside the cartridge is what shuts off the water from coming out of the faucet nozzle. If you've got water dripping underneath your sink then you should try tightening the cartridge or replacing the o-ring. If water is dripping out of the faucet nozzle then the ceramic valve is bad and you need to replace the entire cartridge.
