Beginning the build of the Pergola/Pavillion.
Unfortunately, not too much of a progress since my previous video. Weather has sucked, and I haven't had the filter house built yet. However, building the Pergola/Pavillion which will provide some nice cover.
Just explaining what we're going to do. Wood won't arrive until tomorrow (other than the 4x4 posts). I'll give a full itemisation of what we used once we've erected the thing/total costs so you can gauge whether it's something you want to do. Currently (Just for the wood, plus bolts/screws) we're looking at just shy of £500 which is pretty damn good in my opinion.It's going to be solid!
As always, any questions, or if you have any suggestions, please let me know as I'll be more than happy to answer/read your comments.
Thanks! :)

Looking great, can’t wait to see how things progress. You are much further ahead in the process than I am but I am planning a pond very similar to yours, all be it you seem to have invested much more in your filtration than I am looking at/can afford to buy and run. I am planning on removing dead spots in the pond (corners) etc which you don’t seem to have done yet. I am also trying to look at the best way to insulate above ground while leaving the natural balance of temperature below ground. All the best. Cheers. 👍

New video should show you how I've got on. I think I've gone overkill with the filtration, but I think ultimately a nexus and a shower would've been just as adequate/fine. Beauty of this hobby is it's all about what you can afford/get in with. There's no explicit right, or wrong. Loads of people I know use the nexus's with absolute fantastic results. RE Dead spots, the bottom drains, along with how I have my returns positioned will stop that. Returns are at opposite ends, in either corner, which will create a vortex. The bottom drains with air diffusers will cause a massive rise within the water column. Tons of movement - I'll be uploading another video soon once I start balancing my returns out and things, and you'll see the movement I'm on about. RE the insulating above ground, and the natural balanve of temp below ground, insulating the inside of your pond is the number one thing to do. You'll still retain the natural balance of temp below ground that way. Bear in mind that your bottom drains will naturally draw that 'warmer' water away, and have it circulated around the entire pond, so temperature wise your pond will be identical. However, by insulating the entirety of the pond, you'll ensure heat is retained. Throw a lid on or something along those lines, and you'll be better than ambient no doubt :)

You're telling me! Been months. Had an issue with the fibreglassing, so wanted to wait until that was sorted until I next updated, but that's been dragging since December!

I started my build 18 months ago now just waiting to put all the pipes, filters , ball valves etc getting it to be the best I can get it rather than rushing. You seem to have a similar plan to my own pond. We must have something right.

Good update! Good time to do the pergola too as you'll have a good frame for covering over for the fibre glassing guys
@NishikigoiwithOliver
@NishikigoiwithOliver 3 года назад
That was part of the idea. Be a great covering, and if necessary easy to throw tarps or whatever else over to keep it dry :)

Looking great, pergola is a good idea, are you going to use polycarbonate sheeting for the roof?, definitely worth doing to keep the rain out of the pond, and most of the falling leaves you will get from those surrounding trees!!!!!!.... It's going to be fab when finished!
@NishikigoiwithOliver
@NishikigoiwithOliver 3 года назад
Yes! Multiwalled polycarbonate sheeting will be sat on top. The end caps will look a bit crap I think, but best thing to do I guess! Should also help keep it warm should I ever decide to heat, and fashion some sides for the winter months. The trees are nuts, but best to make do with what you have! I hope so, that is the plan! Lots of gruelling work left, but most of the most difficult stuff out of the way now

Weather looking good this weekend so I'll get over and get the filter housing done for you. P.s....buy the insulation for under the fibreglass before Nov 1st as the prices are set to increase👍

Coming along nicely. No reason they can’t fibreglass with some covers and a wee heater! Just get them told! 😂😂😂 Looking good though. What you doing for cladding again? Can’t remember if you said already.
