Koi pond update - No 7 - Skimmer leaking into wall?!

Videos back to back - You lucky lot! Went out this morning, noticed that the skimmer had been leaking into the back of the wall. Or at least, that's what it appeared. Pain!!
So I've made some adjustments/lots of silicone to try and rectify it. Also changed across from a 50lpm to 70lpm air pump for my moving bed/bio side in the profi. Hopefully we'll see if that solves.
If not, I guess I'll have to call the fibreglassers back to rectify it as we can't have it leaking into the pond wall :/.
Enjoy, and any questions as always, please ask :)

Looking good, the bakki shower looks fab but it probably won't stay shiny! You can't trust the joint between the wide mouth and the skimmer body, those seals are known to leak! I know its a bit late now but its a good idea to put a smear / thin bead of sealent on both sides of the seal when screwing together. Hopefully a smear of CT1 or similar over the join will solve the issue. Pond looks great from the end window, bet you can't wait till the summer when you can sit out with a beer and watch the fish!
@NishikigoiwithOliver
@NishikigoiwithOliver 3 года назад
I'll be on me ands and knees shining it up lol. They came put together by Darren at absolute, so figured they'd have already been done, but I probably should've done that myself. I've done that with the ct1 now on pretty much everything to do with it. Will see in the coming days. Summer time I'm gonna have a rubber dingy on top with me sat in and a beer 😎

They always leak on that gasket, best to smear with silicone when you install those ones.
@johnclipperton3774
@johnclipperton3774 3 года назад
I'm due to fit one of these skimmers soon and noticed that there are 8 screws that hold the gaskets together. The 2 screws on the bottom edge are quite hard to see. With the widemouth attachment fitted you have to look through the bottom edge to see them. Given this, if water is somehow trickling along the underside of the widemouth, it could be escaping via these holes... if the screws arent in that is. Personally I'd silicone the outside of that entire joint too, to be sure.
@johnclipperton3774
@johnclipperton3774 3 года назад
Just to follow-up... I've now fitted my skimmer and no leaks. I did silicone around the outside of the join between the standard and widemouth parts before I put the unit in place. Seems to have worked.

Olly mate a second upload so soon!!!! Shit the bed or what?!? 🤣 Have you just put a 13amp plug on the control box for the profidrum (some people hard wire it). Little bit annoying when things don't go perfectly well but the ct1 should solve it. Queni koi are running a showa grow and show so maybe that's a great starter for the first fish? Take a look on their website in the koi section. You do realise you now need to do another update in a day or so about the leaking skimmer 😉 Take it easy man 👍🏼
@NishikigoiwithOliver
@NishikigoiwithOliver 3 года назад
Something wrong! Last video was 4 months haha. I've got a 13 amp plug for the control box yeah. Didn't think it was necessary to hard wire it tbh. I hope the ct1 solved it. Few days time will tell. I'll probably see how it goes over the next week. If it doesn't try out, drain down and refibreglass into the skimmer and resin it or something!

Fibreglass doesnt stick very well to pvc. It needs a paste making up with talc resin and hardner then siliconing.

I had a similar issue where water was trapped underneath the fibreglass and the sheer weight of water squeezed the residual water through the blocks. Fibreglass was perfect and after a few days it dried.

Thanks bud! Drum seems phenomenal. I don't have much waste yet, so only see it cleaning off the crap from the build and things, but it seems to be running nicely. I think Darren at absolute does both the drum by itself, or with the bio side. Only thing to bear in mind is they are seriously huge!

So I am just about to install a kockney koi skimmer box on my pond just wondering how best to install it. The skimmer box is around 1 inch above the main water level on my pond. well I hope it is the pond seems to be level know. So what advise would you give about fitting a skimmer ? the skimmer seems to be a 1/4 above what will be the water level. I in vision the water level of the pond will be about 1 inch below the top of the sleepers. Above that will be a capping piece of wood which is about 50mm in thickness.

Hey Neil - Nope, not needed on the ones I got (From Absolute koi). They do only sit about half way in the block, but you then fibreglass into it. I had to remove the skimmer guard from the face plate though, and instead siliconed it onto the side (100% needed!)

Hey bud, not sure what you quite mean. Do you mean for the skimmers? If so, they're 3 inch, and so it just pushed on and was welded. Other end for the input onto the drum, was a 4 inch to 3 inch reducer boot. 0

Hello I have a request if you have any spare screws left over after you have installed you kockney koi skimmer. Would you be willing to sell them to me as I have lost a few and the seller said he does not know where to get them from. They seem to be unique screws not easily found. If you can send me some let me know thanks. I will be asking a few pond owners many thanks.
