Nishikigoi with Oliver. This is my pond build journey, from nothing to something.
Join me on my journey as I walk through everything that it's entailed, and will continue to entail moving forwards.
This will include; - Pond & Filter house build - Pergola/Cover build - Filtration systems - Any issues that have arisen, and how they've been solved - A plethora of other things that crop up
I will try and upload as regularly as possible, however is dependent on there being things to film!
If you have any questions at any time, please feel free to leave a comment on a video and I'll get back to you sharpish.
Welcome to my channel, enjoy, and don't forget to subscribe.
Hey bud, not sure what you quite mean. Do you mean for the skimmers? If so, they're 3 inch, and so it just pushed on and was welded. Other end for the input onto the drum, was a 4 inch to 3 inch reducer boot. 0
It mostly self levelled as made it slightly wetter as the more concrete we got in. However we tamped it down with some 4x2 alongside the shuttering on the sides, then threw a bull float over it at the end, but that wasn't really necessary.
@@NishikigoiwithOliver thanks mate, thought that was what I could see on the Timelapse! Will be getting my pour in the next couple of weeks and I’m worried about getting it level but should be ok with the shuttering and wood! Failing that it can be corrected by the blocks!
@@jordanbailey2620 honestly, don't fret about it. How's it being done? By hand or pumped? Either way, use a slightly dryer for the first base layers and then a slightly creamier mix for the top layers. Then with your wellies on, just tamp it down across all the way down. Doesn't really need a baby smooth finish, so no need to float over it after the fact as I presume you'll fibre glass it?
@@jordanbailey2620 and yeah, like you say, if it's slightly out of level no matter as the blocks will be built level course by course, so they'll adjust the thickness of the mix between them to correct it anyway.
@@NishikigoiwithOliver getting a volumetric truck and then I will barrow 2.5/2.6m3 by hand in and then jump in with the wellies! If the base is slightly out I can always chuck some more mix over the top of the slab when the blocks are up to make a fall to the drain👍
I'd have loved to see how you got your glass in. I'm self-building (otherwise known as making it up as I'm going along) and would have loved to see how you installed it. The weight of that stuff is nuts.
Hello I have a request if you have any spare screws left over after you have installed you kockney koi skimmer. Would you be willing to sell them to me as I have lost a few and the seller said he does not know where to get them from. They seem to be unique screws not easily found. If you can send me some let me know thanks. I will be asking a few pond owners many thanks.
Quick question. With your copings, did you cut out the recesses for the pergola yourself or did you have the company you bought them from do it ? Cheers !
Hey - I cut them out myself with a 9 inch angle grinder. Took a bit of work, and bought the angle grinder just for the job. Would've been too awkward to get them to do it! :)
Wow been watching all your videos 2night your pond and koi look stunning I’m still building mine but have koi in its 18x8 5 foot deep and took awhile to sort the nitrite out but you must be really happy with it looking forward to see more
i need help I have so many folds in the liner when trying to put the liner in it does not help the liner has 2 seems in it making an issue for my pipe connectors any advise ? so many folds any advise it feels like its almost impossible. if you need to see the space check my channel out for videos.
So I am just about to install a kockney koi skimmer box on my pond just wondering how best to install it. The skimmer box is around 1 inch above the main water level on my pond. well I hope it is the pond seems to be level know. So what advise would you give about fitting a skimmer ? the skimmer seems to be a 1/4 above what will be the water level. I in vision the water level of the pond will be about 1 inch below the top of the sleepers. Above that will be a capping piece of wood which is about 50mm in thickness.
need help have pond one air pump fitting 18mm I need to adapt to 8mm air pipe any ideas? The pump came with a rubber tube that is about 18mm but can not seem to find a fitting for my large air stone that has a 8mm pipe.
Should be able to get a valve that sits inside of the 18mm pipe that has nipples on the end for the 8mm pipe. Worth looking at air pump fittings on a koi shop for it bud
these videos are boring. instead of talking about crap youve done, do a sped up play by play of doing it… digging the hole… mortaring in the bricks/ concrete… installing the window.
Hi I'm a new subscriber, I really like kumonryu too, I have one and when I got her about 5 years ago she was Black with white fins a white nose and a red shield on her head. For the last 4 years she is a black fish with white tipped fins and a tiny bit of red on the side of her head. She's gone from being the most striking fish in the pond to the to the least. They say the black is unstable and I thought that meant it would come and go but it means it overwhelms every other colour. Please consider this before you spend a lot of money like I did to end up with a different fish to the one I wanted.
Hi Tony, thanks for the comment! That's true, the sumi definitely changes with time. My Hajiro which was jet black, with white tips to the fins is now starting to turn white. Interesting to see the development. I think the age they are, and water parameters definitely make a difference too. Something I'll definitely bear in mind!
Hi Oliver, met you at Adam Byers, just found your channel and have subscribed. Super pond, like the bakki shower, I will look back at your video's, but in the meantime what size and water volume is the pond.
Hey bud! Like wise. Glad you like it! It's about 20,000 litres give or take. Its about just under 3 metres wide, approx 6 metres long, and about 1.5 meters deep
Hey bud! Pleasure seeing you too. That showa was actually insane. I'm not much a fan of showa personally, but jesus christ. I'm not entirely sure yet. It's a pretty long drive, so not sure if I'll be able to make it or not!
For us Japanese, it's hard to believe that KOI is so widely distributed in the middle of summer. However, as long as many of you have many problems in early summer, such as flukes, it may be a compromise idea. Ideally, by early June at the latest, all sales of advanced KOI will have ceased and everyone will be able to concentrate on feeding and gradually change the habits. If you want to make TATEGOI even better on your own, you should concentrate on active feeding for a minimum of three months.
