Hi Andy, about 10 years ago I was going through what you and most RU-vidrs have been going through. The slightest problem and I was on it with cures and chemicals. Then I realised in the past years and ponds I didn’t do anything and never had a problem, so I adopted my old ways I also added a homemade shower and a trickle in and out. Surprise surprise after 10 years of not messing with the pond all the same fish are still alive and happy.
Hiya, thanks for sharing that. I think you have hit a few nails on the head there. Once you've started chasing one thing it creates another and you end up chasing your tail. And the rst becomes history..😊😊🤔
Hi Andy, I've had two outside ponds in the past and experienced similar problems. It may be that birds introduce parasites or whatever. I was about to give up but decided on one last try, so I build a well insulated garden room (4x4m) with a 10kl pond/tank. The sun heats up the water and the insulation keeps the heat in. It is easy to heat the water to 30C for a few days to kill off parasites and you can enjoy the fishies all year round. The koi are thriving. As a compromise you might consider a canopy/pergola. Could be good for a few videos. I do like your presentstion style.
Hiya, thanks for shareing that. I have too many pigeons in and around my garden that could be causing issues. I have a separate water bath for them to use instead of the pond. Glad your enjoying the videos..😊👍
Sorry to see you are going through such trouble with parasites, lots of people seem to be having the same issues☹️. Keeping my fingers crossed for you🤞🤞🤞
Hi Lee, you’re not on your own with all the pond troubles, I’ve had a few problems as well, from flutes to Costea, over in Lincoln Lincolnshire so not all that far from you on the grand scheme of things. I’ve not given chlorine in the tap water a thought! Try and use rain water where I can do. Did a huge upgrade of my filter back end of last year as that was a turning point. I also gave up with my pond I lost 23 koi all small ones but still a huge loss! Keep it watch most of you videos! Are you at Newark koi show this year?
@@KoiPondLifestyle fabulous your name Andy not Lee, I now look at plum!!! Will come say hello this time I saw you a few years back but was not in the head space to say hello to people was lots going on! But in a lot better place now and happy as I’ve been in along time!
Hi bud Just a quick one, I'm nearly ready to set my new pond off I'm a beginner to pond keeping, I didn't put a bottom drain in the pond so just wondering what type of filter do you think would be best for me the ponds not huge it will hold roughly a 1000 litres I just want to keep it healthy and looking well as it's got a window in like yours, Thanks in advance for the advice Rick.
Hiya, sounds like you'll need a submersible pump to place in the pond if no bottom drain. You'd be better heading over to your local Koi shop to see which one they would recommend and the filter to go with it. Keep in mind that there are lots of second hand pond stuff on ebay but make sure it sterilised before it's used on your pond to kill any potential nasties.. 😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle Cheers matey, its good to be back. Im going do this recording and mention your video pal. Its interesting to see we have same issue (I dont mean children 🤣)
Hope thing get better Andy its been a crap year . I was told a while ago by a good source not to do water changes on a frid sat sun because they dump loads of chlorine in the system at weekends So I do mine mon and thurs
That was an early release. What am I going to watch at 6pm tonight 🤔🤔 Damn parasites!! Glad to see OJ is looking better. Was that a "Fifi" bowl you were using - we have one of those too 😂😂 Nice pond visit 👍👍 Hope you're well.
I bought a cheap undersink water filter ( 2 stage nothing special) & I'd fill a 220 litre wheelie bin, placing a small pump just to create movement & a airstone, no clorine after that , Also been told it can be removed with airstones which i also done after ( why not ) my water isn't terrible but it def removed the need for chemicals -give it a lil try as it worked for mine
Dosed mine with FMG on Sunday for the exact same reason mate. Dropping the water 20% this Sunday and redosing because I’m not convinced it’s all gone either 😢
Regarding the salt bath 2oz per gallon is this the same with all carp and fish ? Sorry to ask the question but I seem to be struggling with all types in my water as well
Great to see OJ's health is improving. I was thinking perhaps changing food might make a difference? I know Saki Hikari for instance is reported to improve slime coating and water quality, so may make a difference for your circumstance.
No scraping before treating? I had chilla one week the next fluke. You could find yourself treating again based on what the issue actually is and not what you think.
Hiya, I'd just completed dosing for Fluke after scrape, then Chilidonella was then found after scrape so just dosing for what i know is in the pond...😉👍
Hiya, hope your well.. There was a follow up video is on the end screen for the final design video..😉👍 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-clfzdt-QhOg.htmlsi=bCsFxBNakawaWKQL
Must admit Andy, I did notice OJs behaviour last week hanging at the top, so I hope he does keep improving. It's these random temps, messing with everyone's ponds and thus parasites and then filters.
My fish when off the feed had one with damaged scales of which I did a vid of removal of the scales and the others flashing did scrapes and water tests no parasites no ammonia no nitrite but ph had gone from 8.6-6.8 and had gone from 15 to 4 in less than two days from the rain we had I think
I have an iDip , plus Hanna testers for Alkaline, copper, Chloramine, ammonia, nitrite and iron, followed your channel for 4 years, would love to help, no pressure, just think it might help rule out a few things.
Various collected over a few years, if you’d prefer you can come here with a bottle of your water, but you would need to bring pond and fresh after your 3 stage unit to test.
That particular fish was raised in a pond that was 18inches wide and 3ft deep being the original pond i inherited when I moved into this house nearly 20 years ago... I think it has spent the first few years of his life growing in a small environment..🤔👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle In Japan, the natural summer water temperature is always higher than 26 degrees Celsius, so after August, the eggs that are not laid are usually absorbed into the body and settle down.
That’s why having a quarantine facility is so important! Without one you risk the lives of ALL your Koi every time you add a new acquisition! Unfortunately I learnt the hard way with heavy losses in the past!
@@KoiPondLifestyle A good standby if no quarantine facility available, but get advice from your dealer on dosage and times as most manufacturers tend to err on the side of caution with all medications when a stronger dose can be more effective! Also be extremely careful if using PP in powder form as even a small grain in your eye can cause blindness! I now only use in liquid form even though significantly more expensive to avoid the risk! Good luck!
I'm jealous of how clear your water is. I've a nexus easypod and it was not a good purchase. I've ended up having to cram in filter floss and it made the world of difference.
@KoiPondLifestyle it's been hard all over the UK on carp spawning due to low water temps. If I remember correctly the water needs to be over 18c for a minimum of 4 days. Can be a little higher for different bloodlines. May also need a few little males to rub against her in the future. I would of hoped this heat has helped recently but the cold rain soon kills temps again. Really hope you get it sorted 👍
Have a look at ozone generator from eco filtration I have had 1 for 2 & 1/2 years & they are fantastic. My water parameters are always spot on I don't need to use a declorinator my pond is 10'000 litres in full sun I have no uv I never put chemicals in my pond I have no parasite problems ever
Hi Andy, sorry to see OJ like that but it's looking like you may have got her on the mend. Question are you still getting your filter floss from the same place cuz i remember in one video you were a bit concerned about it, need to get some for my filters. Gwen 🧓
I'm finding my fish are acting a weird at the moment in that they come up and eat well in the morning then go down and spend a couple of hours at the bottom before swimming around again other than that all seem ok, i know a lot of people seem to be getting more problems this year and a lot is to do with the awful spring/summer we're getting, hope all goes well for you.
