This is a real time video on taking a Kolb firefly down from flying mode to trailering or storage mode. This is one of the truly foldable aircraft designs that is very compact
Awesome video. That is one sweet little bird. The best part of the whole video is the frog tape on dudes broken thumb splint. Dedicated employees shows the quality of craftsmanship.
Years ago my father and a friend who was a supplier of aircraft aluminum went together and built one. He was an engineer and said the Kolb seemed the best design of the ultralights. They had a deal that my father would test fly it. After it was built, the FAA came out and weighed it. It passed. Soon after my father's friend could resist taxiing it and he ran it into a ditch and dinged it up. End of friendship. Never knew if that Kolb made it in the air.
Hello, for all pilots. nice plane and comfortable store in the garage. I am very interested... - what is the diameter of the fuselage tube and its wall ? - or a flying control rudder does not catch flatter, vibration ? thank you.
I like the quick and informative video format but, I'd love to come down and do some videos for you that would look a lot more professional. One of the main reasons I say this is not because you video is "bad" per-say, but it made me a little nauseous watching. Give me a call and we can make a day of doing video and get you a few of them done. I'm an old plane builder myself so I know the ins and outs of planes. If you remember it, I built the "Hog Air" plane with the Harley motor a few years back. LOL
AMAZING. question. are the wings of this aircraft just as strong say as an aerolight? do you lose any strength in the wings with this folding ability? i'm 260lbs and just concerned with safety. i might want to add extra gas storage too for cross country. thanks rob
The plane is 250 lbs empty and it can safely carry another 250. 5 gallons of gas weighs 35 lbs so the max pilot weight is about 215. I need to lose about 30 lbs myself so I'll work on that first. If you carry extra gas, it's no longer Part 103 legal. Kolb makes a big brother to this one that is easily able to carry a heavier pilot plus more fuel, you just need a license to fly it. That should never be an obstacle because even ultralight planes require training. You might as well get credit for the training and receive a license.
