Nice. Mine has been in the fridge covered for 6 months since I got it from a friend. There is hope for me yet! Everything I've read says not to do put it in the fridge, and I wasn't sure if covering it (cutting off oxygen) would have ill effects, though it seems perfectly fine.
I prefer brewing large batches in a six gallon brew bucket but cannot drink the resulting Kombucha fast enough. Good to know that in between brews I can just "hibernate" my scoby. Do you have to do anything special to bring it back or can you just pitch it on the usual sweet tea?
Have used Kombucha for years. I have often wondered what the NPK of the Scoby would be. when you have them every week could become a good fertiliser. I am going to get one tested to see what the make up is as a fertiliser
Would this be oke if it were left in the back of the closet (where I used to brew) i unintentionally stopped brewing and a year later the nutrient solution about 3/4ths less than what was originally there, and I have several SCOBYs now. I just wonder if it would still be ok seeing that it wasn't left in the fridge, or would I just need to start from scratch?
Hey Dan .. I wanted to ask someone who'd know - I just started a batch of kombucha with a scoby that sank and hasn't started floating yet. How long does that normally take?.. I'm hoping that I didn't do anything wrong. thanks!
Help! Am tyring to make my own scoby from raw kombucha, unfortunately the store where am buying it only have refrigerated ones. Can I use refrigerated raw kombucha to make scoby?
I bought kombucha and started my scobys off like that and it's not really looking like it should though. my scobys are thin and bubbly.i mean it looks ok and no mould etc but it's not thick like I see most are.maybe it's the brand of kombucha u think?mine is called remedy kombucha, organic live cultured drink.
