A road review of my new Koni Yellow and Ground Control set up. I still need a proper corner balance, but the changes on the road with the new set up are very obvious and very welcome.
Got my Konis at northernperformance.ca
Ground control spring weight: 440lbs in front 550lbs in rear.

I’ve been driving on blown suspension for a long time now and I finally pulled the trigger on some Koni yellows for front and rear. Can’t wait till they come!

Great videos man. Your doing a great job informing people on how to work on their E46 cars. Excellent detail about your driving experiences. You gained me as a sub for sure.

I have just replaced my rear shocks with some Koni Str.t on stock sport suspension springs (2003 330i). The fronts will come when I have the money. I can confirm that it does improve shifting as T.H. says and generally makes the car feel a lot more plush suspension wise. I don't track my car so adjustable's seemed unnecessary. For those of you wondering its been a great upgrade from my original and disgracefully worn out (circa 2003) shocks.

I was gonna pick up the koni yellow struts for my set up but I was gonna use the tien s-tech springs do you think I would get a good ride experience?

Thank you for this video... Great work on everything.... So, what was the final settings for this car, if you remember. In the video you reviewed the konis at 50% rear 25% front, with tighter rear sway bar than front. So it seems this setup would induce some oversteer being that the rear is stiffer than the front. But you reviewed that you enjoyed this setup. And, your rear did slide out. Wondering if you had made any final changes to this setup, because I've read that the E46 likes tight sway bars and softer springs. Just hoping to get some follow up with your final setup.

Wondering how your tires are hanging with to the -1.6 camber for daily driving. Wearing much, or negligible? Good review btw.

I had koni sport in my Audi A4 sport and BMW M320d E90 and i loved it. Now i have a F30 330d luxury (not M Pack) and think about koni sport or koni FSD. Whats your experience in Koni FSD? Are they good enougth? The coils will stay stock.

Dampers exert force as a function of velocity. So yea, not just almost, but yes stiffer the faster you corner. Still looking for an answer maybe you can help. Can the Koni yellows be adjusted as stiff as many Coilovers can? Trying to decide if I want to install mine or not.

You should try poly bushings on the front lower control arms where they meet the body at the back of the arms. The Powerflex ones cost me 45 GBP. Good chance yours are worn out.

Really like your videos, just subscribed! What exhaust does your E46 have? I have a 2000 323Ci and want a little bit of more exhaust noise from it, nothing too noisy. With stock exhasut this thing is sooo silent! What would you recommend?
@ThrottleHouse

+MrStarbi thanks for the sub! I have a magnaflow muffler which I like a lot. Take a look at my older videos for a couple clips on it.

Nice work! Im sure it doesn't look half bad either since you've closed that wheel gap further! If you find time in your next suspension video, I'd like to know what stiffness you've set your Sways at to get the sweet spot in daily driving with spirited cornering! You got the lightweight flywheel, 3.46 diff, magna flow, intake, coils and the shorter M shift knob? Once I get the shift knob and possibly a light weight flywheel we'll have pretty similar builds. Only your 3.0 motor make more power then my 2.5 to begin with lol 😁 It's why I subscribed, I found you doing a lot of the same shit to your e46 that I've been doing to my e36 :)
@ThrottleHouse
@ThrottleHouse 7 лет назад
+Apex Animal I have the 2.5 motor! So actually even closer. I have my front sway at the softest setting and rear at stiffest. I'm going to play around with this a lot though as I prep for next season.

Would you recommend this setup for someone who just drives their car and doesn't do any kind of tracking? Or do you think this is kinda overkill?
@ThrottleHouse
@ThrottleHouse 7 лет назад
Yes. But you wouldn't need the adjustable ride height so just get koni yellows and some lowering springs that are well matched.

what do you recommend for bumpy streets? I need something that will absorb the impact of potholes and uneven streets without having to go back to stock suspension.

Koni yellow, or Bilstein b8's.
@KXP70
@KXP70 5 лет назад
Definitely get Koni Special Active if they have a set for your car. Cheaper than yellows but improves both the handling and ride compared to stock. Gives a lot of driver confidence also. Failing that Koni STR.T (orange) are also very good dampers. They're effectively Koni yellow at full soft (still higher rebound than stock) and ride very well. You only need yellows if you feel you need the adjustment. Like if you go to the track for example.

can you make a video of putting individual throttle bodies on the intake?
@ThrottleHouse
@ThrottleHouse 7 лет назад
This isn't something that is easily done, and there is no kit. The S54 (m3 engine) comes with them but it is carefully engineered from the ground up for them. Its not a simple swap, and purchasing 6 throttle bodies and fabricating the intake system sounds very complicated and probably not worth the effort. Take a look at this thread. forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=704471

thanks I'm working on 1969 mopar pro touring style my leaf springs / disk brakes and bigger tires. the next thing I'm planing is fuel injection conversion / thinking of maybe doing air bags in the back with a 3 link and on a budget so it makes easyer for now to do as little as possible all at one time and spread out the cost but have a safe one ps. my back one are ok for now but leaking a little would i be be able to notice a differents ? or not realy

Koni shocks tend to bottom out and not come back up after about 15k miles. Translates to extremely bouncy ride

+Nik Polc I would look for something 2002 and up. Then you can get the facelift front end (like mine) and you have less of a chance of a cracked subframe. 325 is a good bet.

did u change alignment?
@Rivca2626
@Rivca2626 7 лет назад
get more caster not camber unless u wanna rotate tires every event
@ThrottleHouse
@ThrottleHouse 7 лет назад
+Rebecca Santos I had an alignment done yea. I might look for some adjustable camber plates so i can dial in a lot of negative for the track then back it off on the street. (After getting proper measured settings for each) need that camber to offset tire wear
@Rivca2626
@Rivca2626 7 лет назад
as far as camber plates: cheap ones work fine but poland makes good ones for not-500 bucks. as far as changing camber (doing a full alignment) every time you go to the track - or chasing the toe-out by sight every time you track it tears up your tires really fast--- its an unrealistic goal. if you look at some of those m3s prepped for going to the Nordschleife on weekends they track them at 2to3 degrees neg up front and drive home on the same shoes. You should only go with -3deg or more if you are really using proper A7s, R7s, or similar slicks. So -1.8 is just fine for mixed use with frequent rotations on a square stance. I notice a better compromise (more steering feel and less understeer) from positive caster then neg camber. forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=667507
@ThrottleHouse
@ThrottleHouse 7 лет назад
+Rebecca Santos I was never planning on going more than -3 degrees. But even that I've read can wear tires on the road. (Not too severely though.) your responses on my channel are the most informed I have read and I really appreciate you contributing to the discussion. Keep it up!
