Welcome to my channel! I decided to film this Day in the Life of a Korea University student video to help future international/exchange students to get a glimpse of what a typical day would look like for a Korea University student! I am currently on exchange for this Spring 2017 semester. As I mentioned, every day differs so much because there is always so much to do in Korea! And I love that.
I HIGHLY recommend applying to study abroad at Korea University because it will definitely be a time you won’t forget.
!!!FAQ!!!!
(Compiled from questions incoming students have contacted & asked me! If you have a question that's not here COMMENT on the video!)
1. Where do you live?
I lived in Allive Goshitel near the business side of campus. I paid 550,000W/month + 50,000 deposit. I would recommend this place if you are a business student/have a lot of classes on the business side of campus because of its location. However, it is far from the busy side of campus (near Anam Station). It is about a 10-15 minute walk from there or two stops on a bus (101, 7211).
2. What are you studying? What semester are you in?
I am a business major (KU doesn't have concentrations). I am in my fourth semester (second year, second semester). However, in Korea SPRING is the 1st semester and FALL is the 2nd.
3. What is the process for applying?
Please contact your home university and ask if they have a program WITH Korea University.
4. What was the course registration process like?
Course registration was very very competitive for a lot of exchange students and it's usually like that for even native students here. It's very cutthroat and seats go fast but I personally got all the courses I wanted. Before the registration period starts your KU advisor will send you an email with all the things you need to know so don't worry! I registered for classes back when I was still home so I had to make sure I got the time exchange right. Even if you don't get the course you want, you can always wait for orientation/couple days before the semester starts because courses fluctuate in capacity for the first week or so of classes. Don't worry-- on orientation day they will give you the steps you need to know to register for classes!
5. What are the schedules like? Is it possible to put all your classes in two days?
The schedules vary like a normal university and usually are M/W/F or T/Th like most schools.
5a. What classes did you take?
I took four classes (Marketing BUSS205, Korean History SPGE176, Language & Culture GEFC013, Korean IFLS111)
6. Is it difficult to get a dorm room? Are goshitels more expensive than dorm rooms?
My goshitel was more expensive than dorm rooms but by very little. I believe CJ is 2,000,000 won for 4 months (comes down to less than $500 a month). Also, my study abroad advisor told me that KUBS exchange students from my school NEVER get a place in CJ so I knew I had to find off-campus housing on my own before arrival.
7. Do the dorms have a kitchen? Or is it simply buy from dining halls/restaurants? Is there a meal plan?
I think dorms have small kitchens. No meal plans but the food is very cheap in caf/around school. YOU WILL NOT STARVE! Don't worry LOL
8. Do they provide bedding, pillows, duvets at the university?
At CJ it is 20,000W to rent.
9. How’s the buddy system?
I really enjoyed it because it allowed us to get comfortable with the school. They have many events/lunches/dinners together.
10. Do you feel that Korea University has a lot of student events on campus?
At the beginning of the spring semester, there was a club fair & a school-wide cheering event/concert called Ipselenti. We had performers like TWICE, Hweesung, BeWhy. In the fall semester, there's also a small club fair and also a HUGE event called the Kor-Yon Games (Korea Uni VS Yonsei) which is a sporting match/cheering event also with many famous performers! I heard it's LIIITTT!!! KU treats their exchange students very well with an established buddy system-- your Katalk group chat amongst your group will always be buzzing with people willing to hang out & go on adventures together! Everyone is open to making new friends :)
11. What’s around the university? What’s the neighborhood like?
For starters, buses & trains run from the university to anywhere in Korea really so you will not be deserted. It is not as crowded as like Hongdae or Seoul Station and Anam is an area that not many people go to unless they live there. But however, there is this road (the one I walk through in the video) that has the most "life." There's coin noraebangs (karaoke), chicken joints, road shop makeup, convenience stores, restaurants, etc..

@hannahoh472
@hannahoh472 7 лет назад
Hello! Definitely depends from major to major + school to school. Most home universities allow P/F for exchange programs making it less stressful whereas some universities (like mine) are by grade-basis. The courses I am currently taking aren't particularly hard but that is because I chose my courseload that way since I value abroad experience > cramming credits/good grades/heavy courseload. I was actually taking a really difficult course but dropped it halfway this semester because I decided that I want to suffer when I go back home instead haha. It really comes down to the courses you choose & the program you come from + how much you care about your GPA (if it's not P/F). Try to ask people from your home university that went to KU if there are any about their experiences~

@hannahoh472
@hannahoh472 7 лет назад
Thank you Amanda! To be very honest, I don't think KU particularly has a lot of student events on campus besides the club fair and Ipselenti (or Kor-Yon Games depending on which semester you attend). However, if you are an exchange student KUBA has a lot of events like trips to different places in Seoul, group dinners/lunches, cheering orientation, and etc... It's really hard to pick one memorable experience thus far because everyday has just been so great and very rewarding. I love exploring and I especially love how easy it is to travel throughout the country even by bus. Stay tuned for my GWANGJU/BOSEONG GREEN TEA FIELDS vlog where I take a bus to 3.5/4 hours out of Seoul. :)

(I know it’s been a year since you’ve uploaded, but I’m still hoping you’ll see this!) Thank you so much for such a wonderful video - you have a very bright and quirky personality! If I may kindly ask: 1. How is the community like there, and are the teachers interactive? 2. Would you suggest going to KU as a full on undergraduate (meaning all 4 years at KU)? 3. What are some pros/cons living and studying in Korea? (Sorry if it may be a little bit more personal) Again, thank you so much!

Hi Hannah!! Thank you so much for this video it was really interesting!! ^.^ I have a few questions if you don't mind me asking? (1) For the language classes, when do you have to take the test (for them to decide which placement you're in)? (2) Where are you staying at? :D I heard Rachel Livingtel was pretty popular with KU students; sorry if you mentioned it in your video - I didn't catch you stating living accommodation options in the video! (3) What was the bidding process like for course registration? :) I heard some people saying it's more biased against exchange students, but I'm not very sure...
@hannahoh472
@hannahoh472 7 лет назад
Hihi! Thanks for the questions~ 1. I didn't have to take a test to get into my language class, but once I was registered my professor did a "casual" interview to figure if we were best fit for that level. Most students passed and if some didn't she would suggest a level she thinks is best fit for that person. I suggest taking a level you know you will be comfortable in. However, even if you register for a class and you think it's too hard or easy, you can always add/drop! (there's a time period for that once the semester starts) 2. I'm currently staying at Allive Goshitel. Yes, Rachel is popular but so is Coco Livingtel, Crimson, 2U Guesthouse, etc.. and of course, CJ (dorm for intl. students) Allive is closer to the business side of campus so I suggest living here if you're going to be taking classes at business side (or are a business major). 3. Course registration was very very harsh for a lot of exchange students and it's usually harsh for even native students here. It's very competitive and seats go fast but I personally got all the courses I wanted. Hope this helps!

Hi!! I am planning to study a spring semester at KUBS and I would like to know which accommodation would you choose among Allive, Crimson House, and 2U Guesthouse. Also, I want to know if the professors take into account that you are an exchange student and that what you want to do is discover Korea and to pass and not study hard, even with the courses related to finance. Thank you. Ps: nice video!!!!

sss 111 Hi!! I would still choose Allive again because I had a good experience there but I know whatever you choose it'll still be a good experience.
