This video is on Korean reaction words that don't translate perfectly into English and vice versa! I'm trying to make these lesson videos in a way that my Korean viewers can learn English while my International viewers can learn Korean. Hopefully it works out. I hope you guys enjoy the video :)

I love how for "aigoo" Dave says the english translation would be "oops" or "woops" but when he did the example by almost breaking his trinkets, he says "jeez" naturally which actually works way better in the connotation of the word 😂😂

This was one of the funnest parts of learning Korean. Direct translations don't usually sound right, so you kinda have to find the meaning behind it, rather than exact words.
@unknowndeoxys00
@unknowndeoxys00 6 лет назад
I say "hot!" Or "ow, hot!" when something's hot and the reflex hits. But I think that could be seen as something only English-speaking children are likely to use, since they're still learning about their words and environment. For me, I'm just naturally aloof and childish, so I tend to speak that way... 😅 Would you be interested in doing a vid on subconscious speech mannerisms one day? I don't know many, but I have noticed the way Koreans suck in air through their teeth as they explain something. Usually something that might be confusing or difficult to talk about? And English-speakers rely very heavily on filler words/sounds in conversations (I'm looking at you, "like")
@MarineHHJ
@MarineHHJ 6 лет назад
unknowndeoxys00 I’ve been watching and listening to Korean music and watching a lot of shows so I started talking a little Korean ... so when I touch something hot I say it in Korean ... also so many other things too. I didn’t notice that I did that until my mom said “what are you saying??” That’s kinda when I noticed . The Korea effect 😂😂

It' my second year teaching in Korea now and Iv'e used your videos as an example for a video project I made the students do. Last year's results were really good and this week I had just started showing the new students the vids again. They love them, I love them (Iv'e watched the same videos more times than i can remember and they're always hilarious; also, I'm South African so this is nice for learning the language and culture as well). So thanks for helping me on my own teaching and 'living in Korea' journey!!!

@iloveicecream127
@iloveicecream127 6 лет назад
I'm sorry if this sounds rude but to me that's sounds so fake. people who are legitimately fluent in multiple languages don't even do that how come someone who is barely conversational able to? like that makes no sense to me UNLESS you trained yourself to say those words and made it in to a habit. in unexpected situations like these your brain uses the most comfortable and NATURAL reactions that been ingrained into you NOT a reaction that you learned through watching a lot of TV. if you trained yourself to say Korean phrases in a english/non-korean environment... the nicest way for me to say it is....that's weird....like why??? for what purpose??
@kathryn2699
@kathryn2699 6 лет назад
EM Elva I don’t know is this will make any sense, but I just starting using those sounds by accident. I’m more used to using those sounds by accident because I really like watching a lot of Korean tv shows and I watch a lot of them. I’m not formally learning Korean, and I’m not training myself to talk Korean in a non Korean environment. I do understand it’s weird, I found it weird too when I realised what I was doing but no one has asked me why I do that and I don’t see the harm accidentally using a different language I am not learning formally.
