Hello everyone!
Today we're sharing a recipe for a delicious and crunchy bean sprout salad using leftover bean sprouts from steamed jjolmyeon. This is a popular side dish in Korean households and is a great way to use up leftover ingredients. This recipe is easy to follow, even for beginners, and only takes a few minutes to prepare.
Ingredients: 400g bean sprouts, 30g carrots, 30g green onion, 2 garlic cloves, 1/2 TBSP salt
Condiments: 2 TBSP red chili pepper powder, 1 TBSP sesame oil, 1 TBSP soy sauce, 1 tsp salt, 1 TBSP sesame seeds

I live in Korea and I'm uploading videos introducing Korean recipes.
I'm mainly introducing Korean food, but instead of traditional recipes, I'm introducing recipes that can be cooked in an easier way using ingredients that are currently used in Korean households.
As a result, you can use imported ingredients instead of Korean ingredients.
Just because a recipe is Korean doesn't mean it's made with only Korean ingredients.
I'm just saying this in case you get the wrong idea.

Hi there. I’ve tried Kongnamul in S Korea and I want to try making this. I understand that in S Korea, a different type of beansprouts is used for cooking. I’ve seen them in your supermarkets. They looked skinny and long. The head (bean) looks different. Does the type of beansprouts affect the outcome of the taste? We have shorter, more stubby beansprouts in my country, Singapore. In your video, red chilli pepper powder is indicated. I have some Gochugaru. Is this the flake type (coarse?) I should be using or the fine type? Thank you for your recipe.

Hello! In Korea, bean sprouts are used in a variety of dishes. There are two main types of bean sprouts commonly sold in Korea: straight bean sprouts and curly bean sprouts. Straight bean sprouts are thicker and are often used in dishes like seafood stew. Curly bean sprouts are thinner and have a different texture. The thickness of the bean sprouts can affect how well they absorb seasonings. Whichever type of bean sprouts you use, it is important to note that they are different from mung bean sprouts. When making stews and soups, Koreans typically use a mixture of two types of chili powder. Coarse chili powder is used for kimchi, while fine chili powder is used for gochujang (Korean chili paste). You can use either coarse or fine red pepper powder for this recipe. Have a happy week!

Thank you for asking this question, which I'm sure many people are curious about.😍😍😍 The bean sprouts used in the video are straight bean sprouts.

@@GolgoLAjae Thanks for the explanation. So the beansprouts in S Korea are soy bean types. Ah. In Singapore we have the common type which is the mung beans but we call/label them “beansprouts” without thinking much about it. I guess I will have to make do with fresh beansprouts and make this Kongnamul. This Kongnamul dish looks versatile and I can see how quick a meal can be taken care of. About the Gochugaru, can I use fine Gochugaru powder when making Jjigae, Bibim Guksu? I see so many wonderful Korean dishes that I want to make. Or that coarse and fine Gochugaru are interchangeable while cooking. I’ve used coarse Gochugaru when I make Geotjeori (or fine Gochugaru be used?). Not tried making kimchi yet but now knowing that coarse Gochugaru is to be used, I will make a mental note of this for future kimchi-making. Thank you for the explanation. I appreciate it very much. There’s great interest in Korean food worldwide. Even in India, it’s popular.

@@Madcap118 Hello! I apologize if my English is not perfect. I am still learning, and I appreciate your patience and understanding. In Korea, mung beans are often used as a type of sprout called "숙주나물" (sukju namul). The cooking method for sukju namul is slightly different from that of other types of bean sprouts. When making stew with chili powder, it is best to mix coarse and fine chili powder together. However, this is not a hard and fast rule, and you can use either type of chili powder if you only have one. There are many different ways to make bibim guksu (Korean spicy cold noodles). I usually use fine chili powder when making bibim guksu, but I also sometimes use coarse chili powder. If you are making bibim guksu with kimchi, the kimchi will add enough flavor to your bibim guksu, so you only need to add a small amount of chili powder. Please feel free to ask me any questions if you have any questions or if my explanation is not clear. I am always happy to help!😍

@@GolgoLAjaeNo, no, no. I understood you fine. It was just a nagging query I always had when it came to coarse and fine Gochugaru. You’ve cleared my doubts! Thank you. I asked local Korean shops but their replies are not always consistent. I’m so sorry for replying you late. In fact in many of your videos, you’ve cleared my queries regarding Korean ingredients. That was so helpful! Nowadays even Gochujang can be made “halal” and they come from S Korea. Keep the videos coming. Thank you for the recipes you’ve shared with us.

1. Place the bean sprouts in an airtight container or a black plastic bag. 2. Change the water daily. 3. Store the bean sprouts in the refrigerator for up to a week. 4. When you're ready to eat, simply season the bean sprouts to your taste. 5. By following these steps, you can enjoy fresh, crisp bean sprouts for up to two weeks without having to blanch them beforehand.

@@GolgoLAjae Well, it is. You win in that one. I was more interested in what to do with bean sprouts that I grow in Ball jars. In stir frys they become disappointing mush. In egg rolls they fall short of shredded cabbage instead. In ramin noodles they are unpleasantly stringy and bitter. So I was hoping to get pointers on a best way to eat them. I guess I ignored the music even though it wasn't great.
