I am a Hawaii-born Japanese guy and taught English for 2 years in Mokpo. (Also got married there to my wonderful wife). I like Japanese enka, and learned this song from one of the teachers at Yudal Middle School. For those who don't know Korea well, Mokpo is a seaport town in the southwest corner of Korea. This song was written in the late 1920's. It's about a young lady at the pier crying as she sees her boyfriend leave her on a boat.
I watch 가요무대 in Chicago every Friday night and I have never seen her on it. She is pretty and a good singer, however, I prefer Choo Hyun Mi and Choi Yu Na. Please continue to upload more Korean Trot videos. Thanks.
