It societal not cultural. It's like saying the same thing with American culture. "Oh you like American culture, but dive deeper into what is real American culture." No justifying racism or anything, but it's societal.
How do you expect these K-pop Stans to dive deeper when K-pop itself is all surface level perfection? Shallow ppl who are into shallow things have already lost interest in anything deep.
Starting to feel like weebs who say they like Japanese culture actually make more sense than koreaboos who say they like Korean culture. We know they don’t refer to the culture and traditions, they’re actually talking about the exported entertainment and to some extent, the society that created these entertainments (thinking Japanese society is all fun and rainbows because their anime and videogames are fun, or thinking the average Koreans live and look like idols or actors). Japan tries to live up to the expectation by being nice to you on the outside, Koreans on the other hand don’t try to hide and normalise hitting you square in the face with that ASEAN racism. Just a few weeks ago, I saw Korean comments casually using the term “Vietnamese” as an insult while they’re arguing with each other. Don’t have to look far, my country has an island teeming with Korean tourists and they were all obnoxious. They dare to be this obnoxious because why should they behave around lowly humans like us SEAs?
Koreans came to India to build their KIA car factory. They started small restaurants nearby and put up a board saying "Only Koreans allowed". India helped South Korea in their Korean war, but their mentality is like this.
Right recently a k guy visited Tunisia people were so nice . They just sometimes said Chinese chin cho nothing else , He was like never come here and all that . And this chin cho thing is wrong I know but in Korea they don't allow you inside the club or restaurant just because you are foreigner is far worse .And I have seen in a video people just ignore you if you ask for help. I was like wtf .
What's your reasoning? Anyone, regardless of color or nationality, can be held responsible for racism. Like people denounce racist Koreans, and Koreans can condemn racist whites, blacks, or others. Borrowing your logic, isn't it ironic that blacks are loud about the importance of black lives matter, despite the fact that African Americans were responsible for some of the racially motivated attacks against Asians during the c*** pandemic? Because some African Americans are racist to Asians, are black people in general not permitted to denounce racism? According to you, bunch of toxic hypocrites. right?

The number of 150,000 people corresponds to 25% of the total military force. Don't forget the fact that these 25% captured Seoul in 3 weeks and advanced to Pyongyang, North Korea, within 3 months. The power relationship between Japan and South Korea has always been one-sided and has never been an equal power relationship. It's not a relationship between Germany and France, it's a relationship between Germany and Poland.

They've been racist since Korea exist. they used to call (still is) Japanese, Ryukyuan(Okinawan), Manchurian (basically people other than Chinese and Koreans) are ''beast''.
Koreans have NEVER treated other foreigners like how Japan treated Koreans. Even till this day, Japanese calls Koreans living in Japan cockroaches to their face, does not give them citizenship and force them to commit suicides in school when they go to normal Japanese schools . Did Koreans kill thousands of foreigners by putting them in a church and setting it on fire after the earthquake? Don’t get me started, you are a joke. Koreans treat workers who come from 3rd world country just like every other country in the world - which is not right, but my question is why does everyone here expect more from Koreans?
Beauty standards make people ugly. I can't imagine how stressed, young girls and boys must feel mentally to keep up with the beauty standards in korea.
I'm viet guy born and living in Canada. Basically SEA, but I don't think I'm ugly as koreans label SEA. I've had girls asking me out directly. I once was bored during the pandemic. I went back on Roblox in Mic Up. My sleep schedule was horrible and so I had the chance to talk to ppl from EA/SEA. Once spoke to a korean guy and we talk about korean mentality. I can't lie tho, I think korean media did a big contribution in eleminating negative view towards asian that are subtle in US media, portraying asian male as undesireable, ugly, unreliable (with exception of kung fu master). As I'm not sure if those girls asked me out due to korean media or who I was? Maybe a bit of both since media plays a big role how society view others wether we like it or not. But I also told him my POV how I see many koreans online being arrogant and act as if they don't overuse plastic surgery(which is very contradictory to their superiority belief). He agrees with me. I also elaborate on the fact that it eliminates natural selection, which could make people less attractive over generations. We talk for a while then he mention he wants to get a nose job because he thinks his nose is too flat/big. I told him he should love himself instead. But I understood we'll never have same mindset because to him, plastic surgery was the same as changing clothes

@@KFC431 Yes, of course most people care about their appearance, but you'd be surprised. Some people simply never cared that much. It’s the toxicity of living in a crowded hyper competitive Korea is what makes those native Koreans so unbearable. I’m Korean American and hearing the horror stories of South East Asians visiting South Korea appalls me and makes me feel shameful towards Korea considering how awesome the Filipino communities and other South East Asian communities are.
Yeah. Older Koreans here in America who immigrated are likewise just as racist. Just that the focus shifts from the usual Southeast Asians to Black and Hispanic people since they are considered scapegoats by Koreans in America. This also transfers onto the kids. I've seen some Korean-American kids raised in America say racist AF shit because they hear it from their parents and how normalized racism is in Korean spheres. Think all-Korean churches. Truly appalling.
I agree. I've been to Korea and sadly some of the Koreans we interacted were racists. I am aghast why Filipinos love Koreans so much. They even look down on Filipinos.

Pretty ironic that they care so much about appearance but all look so fake with the plastic surgeries and end up looking alike too, as if they are all using the same filter. That's so messed up. If they were so superior, they wouldn't need to change their appearance.
I often didn't understand why people say " They all look alike" ... I came to know FAST , that it's those surgeries to get the exact same kind of eyes , nose and lips , similar makeup to look a certain way , and all the same filters . That's why in social media we can't tell them apart .
I was disappointed when my parents refused to go to Jeju with me, now I'm grateful they refused. Imagine wanting to have memorable vacation with loved ones and meet racism instead. 😢
I went to South Korea, specifically in the Jeju Island, for a cultural exchange program when I was in high school. Many Koreans were rude and a few would even shoulder bump me on purpose and had the audacity to glare at me afterwards. And while shopping at stores, even the employees spoke rudely to me when I inquired about sizes and stuff... While in school, the Koreans were only nice to the Russian exchange students, they’d swarm around them and followed them everywhere, like they were celebrities or something lol. They were fascinated and interested in the Russians but couldn’t care less about the other exchange students, including myself and I think it’s because we weren’t white. I’m Filipina but my sister calls me ‘ambiguously Asian’ because my features blend in whichever Asian country we go. When in Thailand and Malaysia, I get mistaken for Thai and Malay, also been called Hawaiian, Korean and even Mexican before. But when in Tokyo, Singapore, Taiwan thankfully never felt any discrimination. I was in Seoul for two weeks just this past April, and thankfully I did not have any negative experiences there either. I loved my time there because I love Korean food and all different types of food, and there was just so much variety to try and the public transport was so convenient and easy to use and I felt safe going around everywhere even late at night. I’m sad to read the comments of the people on here… But also before I travel anywhere I do a lot of research and learn basic phrases in the native language, and learn all I can about how to use public transport, restaurant etiquette, etc. I think this also helps when interacting with locals so you dont end up inconveniencing working people/drivers/servers who just want to go on about their day and dont want to deal with loud tourists holding up the queue. Just sharing this for people who say they dont want to travel there anymore. I think for the most part if you are acting with consideration and respect and awareness for your surroundings, you shouldnt have a problem. The younger generation of Koreans especially are quite friendly, helpful, more open minded and speak English well.

Lol maybe you are only seeing this cus you are obsessed with their culture, what they think what they say. You think the opposite is anywhere in terms of numbers? Maybe the problem is you already have an inferiority complex? Notice why so many aseans are obsessed with east asia but not the other way around? But, that's as far as it went. She kept thinking that she was better than everybody else until she met somebody like me who could figure out her engineering. In addition, she lacked creativity, life skills, common sense and the ability to do regular things. Heck, she couldn't drive a car, she had trouble holding a conversation; especially with certain people. She couldn't go through the city without getting lost because she had no sense of direction. She definitely couldn't traveling alone. She also couldn't get along with most people (like me) and unlike me, she couldn't play draw, she couldn't play an instrumshe. Plus, she couldn't run, she couldn't cook, she needed help reading bills/charts so that she wouldn't over pay for stuff like she always did and she couldn't do a lot of stuff that most people could do. She even ran out of money at one point because she overspent and paid too much money for stuff that she didn't necessarily need. For example, she ONLY bought name brand stuff. She thought that off brand stuff was inferior; even though the nearby off brand stuff was the SAME thing and MUCH cheaper. So, she ended up having to borrow money from me at one point. Well, it ALL taught her that she wasn't as great as she thought she was and she finally stop thinking that she was better than everybody and became MUCH MUCH MUCH more humble as time went on. Outta curiosity, what's your ethnicity? Do you notice different levels of prejudice the typical Koreans have towards you (your ethnicity) vs other foreigners (other ethnicities)?
When I had student exchange activity in Seoul National University, my experience was rather amazing. The korean students are accomodating to us (Malaysians). It could be that they have other international friends while in Uni, that they are exposed on other races can be intelligent too.
Filipino American here. Back in High School in the early 2000s, my friend group of mostly Vietnamese guys kinda beefed with the fobby Koreans. We felt they looked down on us for being “Jungle Asians” and they thought they were higher class than us. Now some individuals from both groups got along and even studied together but we never all hung out in one big group. 20+ years later, my girlfriend is Korean and I got the stereotype from her Mom that Filipinos are poor because that’s what she heard from her church friends. 😂
The Korean males in Kazakhstan look at other Asians that way, including Kazakhs. Not Korean females, they are always polite and nice. I also visited South Korea. Those people were pretty nice and didn't feel out of my shoes.
In the beginning, are they talking about the born foreign podcast by this peter guy? Or what kind of video are they referring to? I think it's very important to speak up about such kinds of things.
there's a brawl on a concert in Indonesia that involves a group of korean and the locals, the way they act like they're descendants of god or something. while in other hand those koreans using Indonesia to boost their Yt channel subscribe numbers. i know"not all korean like that",but there's an incident a well known korean youtuber who intensively pump out Indonesia related content, she got exposed talking bad about Indonesia in her private sns which lead she lost the trust from the Indonesian viewer. from that case I can't 100% trust those korean youtuber. i still watch their content for entertainment but don't feel any attachment to them

@@reignBeaux4946 Actually, anyone who can speak Korean, is competent, and adaptable (The good Koreans will show their presence and respect you) Thats what I experienced in Korea. While in Korea, i notice many foreigners never have Korean friends because they still retain their attitude from back home/ not adaptable. But the foreigners who were adaptable got more credits (even if they end up not being close buddies). These foreigners are usually more confident in trying new things.

No surprise there.. I mean the fact that plastic surgery, materialism and other superficial endeavors gets the front seat in their culture.. I can only imagine what their real thoughts are.
I'm Taiwanese and light-skinned and went to visit Korea with a group of girls, all from East Asian countries. I can't tell you how many times I was shoulder checked by a Korean girl/woman etc. I'd never go back.
To be fair, they do that to everyone, even to Koreans. It's one of my biggest pet peeves living in Korea, so I understand your frustration, but they don't reserve that treatment to foreigners, they just don't care about their surroundings in general.
Thank you!!! People try to look down upon me because i refuse to wear clothing with logos on it and i went to a state university. Also, people always try to fetishize me when i go into public.
“People are so obsessed with appearance they don’t notice their disgusting personality” reminds me of the kdrama True Beauty… it was a ride to watch, but had a lot of beautiful messages.
When people speak of Asian, they mostly think of Chinese, Japanese or Korean. When you ask Chinese, Japanese, Korean if they would date a foreigner, they only mention USA/Europe, basically Whites. Yeah, that's how bad it is. It like the other countries/race doesn't even exist or worth mentioning. There's like 49 countries in ASIA, yet for some reason most non asian can only think of East Asian. SEA is very looked down upon by the world. Our skin colour are not light enough. Our average height are very low. Majority if not all suffered from Colonization and development was great halted due to the aftermath need to dealt with, whether in form of bad deals or result of divide on conquer when imperials brought multiple race to said country. If it weren't for our FOOD, we probably would be looked down much further.
To be frank, the concept of "Asia" and its subdivisions (EA, SA, SEA, CA, WA, etc.) weren't created by the people they call "Asians" themselves but by people outside of the regions. It's better to escape from this trap altogether and let people think what they wanna think.
bro yessssssssss i saw a video of an interviewer approaching korean men and asking if they would date a foreigner and who, and they ALWAYS. mentioned some western celebrity like billie eilish, scarlett johansson, and at the time i was learning korean and lowkey questioning the word they used to ask, "외국인" (foreigner) and wondering if it actually meant a foreigner from anywhere.. because why wouldnt they name someone from literally anywhere else..?

Thailand NEVER being colonized, period. So tell me more about ASEAN being a unrecogniseable? Or being "under developed" countries? Cause historically, we are fucking badass.
My family's korean but I was born and raised in SEA and this thing's true lmao! They come over to visit but look down on everyone. I'm glad I'm a SEA girl at heart AND COLOR ❤️
I’m Filipino, I love to travel, and what you said is one of the reasons why I don’t want to travel to Korea, or at least be a fan of K-pop. I am fair skinned, tattooed, well-put, successful, and I admire everything about myself. To be judged based on my skin or height, or status is very provincial. The world doesn’t evolve around them. Kinda toxic really.
*here's the golden rule.if you show respect, i will show respect in return.but if you talk trash to me, for sure you will not like what you will hear from me*
100% this. I just can't get behind the culture of respect being expected because of x y and z instead of respect being earned. it's made living in east asia hell for me
I'm the exact same way when it comes to respect, you treat me good I'll treat even better, but if you treat me like fecies especially for no reason what so ever, I'm a let you have it like nothing you've ever seen before, you wanna test me? Just try me & you'll see somethin.
try to show respect to someone random on the street who compliment you and then said things like, i thought all people from your country look like monkey! THIS IS REAL, HAPPENED TO SOMEONE I KNOW IN KOREA!
This is so sad to hear... I love Korean people, Korean culture and k-dramas. I'm a big fan od k-dramas. And I just LOVE a few Korean singers like Jungkook, V and Cha Eun-woo. It's sad to know that I probably wouldn't be welcome if went there. I'm starting to learn their language. This is so heartbreaking 💔😭
You’re spot on. That’s exactly what I’ve observed during my time here in Korea. One exception is that Koreans particularly LOVE those from the West. By the West, I mean regions beyond Turkey, encompassing all countries from there onward, regardless of race
@@ranran8934 About their appearance, it's nothing to do with personalities. They were just gastlighted. But yeah, racism is related to personalities and education.
In 2009, I had a Korean classmates called Mr. Kim. He was an older guy. My experience was that the man was super nice to all the native SEA students including myself. Based on my limited time with him, I didnt't experience any racism nor prejudice from him. That's anecdotal, but at least I can vouch that not all Koreans are racists.
Well, not all. But most. Take it from me who has worked with Korean people for 20 years. If you've spent enough time with them. You get to notice it a lot more. They don't say it in your face, they would smile at you and treat you nicely. But you would definitely feel the racist regards one step at a time, thru their actions...the questions they ask...even their simple reactions to things. One example is, I often get this remark from Koreans.."You don't sound Filipino, your accent is so good." In their mind, that's a compliment. That's just one of the many things I experience on a daily basis. They're basically racist and they don't know it.
Why your experience based on 1 single guy give you conclusion on the whole society? Of course there are always few exception but your so called 'experiences' invalid against what this korean guy opinion
Long comment ahead: Ive always been into languages so I started learning Korean by myself in 2010 (along with Japanese, Italian and Turkish along the way) and after years of just textbook studying I decided to actually talk to people in those languages as i thought it would be great practice My language exchange with Turkish, Italian and Japanese people was wonderful, they were all super nice and helpful. Then there were Koreans.. 😅😅 it was such a bad experience that It turned me off of learning the language itself and I haven't spoken to any Korean person since then (it's been 6 years) Among many annoying interactions, there was this guy who was 3 years younger than me that kept talking to me informally despite only meeting for 5 mins. Now if we were talking in English or another language where formal/informal speech didn't matter then It wouldn't have put me off that much, but we were talking in korean where they were supposedly strict about respecting people older than you, especially those you've just met. Not only was this guy talking to me informally, but he didn't even bother calling me by my name or noona or whatever , he straight up was using 야, 너 I was baffled cause he clearly knew what he was saying and when I asked why he was being disrespectful his answer was "I'm korean oppa!" First of all, dude you're younger than me tf Note: I'm not from SEA and not Asian to begin with but I never had any issues with other Asians except Koreans I'm aware there are good and bad people everywhere and I'm by no means generalising but I've met way too many annoying Koreans to want to do anything with them anymore 😅

Thank you! 🙏🏻 I visited Korea last year and till this very day still can’t figure out what the hype is all about. It’s overrated and found that the people can be very superficial. All they care about is looks, luxury brands and $$! Not all of course, it’s just the vibe that majority of them give off!
OP is right, and so insightful, on top of being gorgeous. I'm really sorry he deals with any sort of bullying. I wish people looked at how we treated each other over how we look.
I’m Hmong/Miao but when I told people I was eastern asian they get mad at me for literally not being Korean. I feel like Korean beauty standards has taken a big toll on how people expect all eastern asians to look. I’m not even fully Hmong/miao I’m part southeast and southern Asian too but people still expect me to look like I have Korean facial features (I have more Chinese features since Hmong/Miao people have Chinese blood). I feel like people forget how different eastern asians can look from each other all because of Korea. Like Japanese and Korean facial features are really different. Not only that but the amount of toxic beauty standards that are apart of Korea as a whole and the amount of people who are defending the society just because they are k pop fans which are disgusting.
