You have a lot of 88s!! So do I :) . Last year out of total frustration with digital pianos I bought 4 of them attempting to find a truly great piano. I was replacing my 11 year old Yamaha P95, and wanted the new technology that included string resonance. So here they are: 1) Korg KromeEX 2) Roland RD-2000 3) Kurzweil PC4 4) Yamaha DGX670 The Krome with the huge piano sample was horrible. The Roland V-Piano is good, but has issues with either the engine or the keybed or both, not getting a consistent sound out of the keyboard in sustain or pressure (velocity). The PC4 has the heaviest action (which I like for practice and strength building) but after months of sound design could not get a great sound out of it, plus the samples of the upper 2 octaves sound out of tune, and there are many OS lock-ups (freeze) on this keyboard, fortunately though they have a MIDI PANIC button right on the front panel that frees it up; and then the biggest problem is there is NO audio over USB, you must record by analog out and go through all the DAC ADC conversions. Then we have the DGX-670 which I would have never considered because all 20 years of the DGX series were horrible pianos....BUT....my friend bought one and I auditioned it at her house; it is the greatest sounding digital piano I have ever played, I have been playing Dpianos since the first one and dozens after for the last 35 years. Who would have thought that this inexpensive piano would have been this fantastic, better than all other pianos I have owned? The stock piano sample is good on its own, but there are plenty of sound editing you can do (not in the piano room) outside of the piano room for tone, resonance, EQ, compression, delay, reverb, filtering, and touch (velocity control). AND, the pedal system is accurate to an acoustic grand with a gorgeous soft pedal and half pedal sustain. The first soft pedal I have ever played that sounded like an acoustic grand soft. Korg, Roland, Kurzweil I worked on sound design for months and never got anything I was pleased with. I worked with the Yamaha DGX for just 20 minutes and have been using that edit for the last 5 months, very VERY happy. Happy for the first time in my life playing a digital piano. The DGX is that good!!
Stage pianos. Stage pianos need physical control for on stage use, and good controls cost money. So you are correct if not planning to use the X on stage buy the Nautilus. But I have 2 stage pianos and the front panel control dials in the piano I want very quickly for the song/environment I am recording. Look forward to your review when the X is physically at your studio. My guess is, it is not going to be better than the four pianos listed in my other comment. (NOTE: the pianos with the front panel controls I use only for mixing in an orchestration, for solo piano I only use the Yamaha DGX-670. The DGX records straight to a USB on board recorder.)
