I have never experienced as much frustration and resentment towards a company as I have with owning the Korg Kronos. For years I used the Roland Fantom G-8 (88 Key). It is more intuitive and way easier to record and edit on the fly without frustration. I simply wanted more sounds since I do full Orchestrational Compositions. So I had gotten a Korg Kronos due to its huge expansive library of sounds (which at the time I didn't know had to all be bought separately- major bummer: they all come to almost 3,000.00 [as much as the keyboard itself]). I have been heartsick ever since. To this day I have not bought one Sound expansion yet for the Korg Kronos because of how difficult the User Interface is to work with. What you have posted here has inspired me to take one last look at not giving up on my Korg Kronos (88 Key). Thank you for posting this amazing Korg Kronos Sequencing tip!! With all my heart I thank you for taking the time to explain and post this. Blessings to you from Michigan.
You are welcome my friend. As frustrating as the Kronos is for production it is actually quite good as A LIVE PERFORMANCE keyboard. I actually keep a portable CD ROM drive that I can use to play music through the Kronos at venues during the break. The SET LIST is awesome and kurzweil and roland (Fantom G) are the ONLY other manufacturers to offer 16 or more AUDIO tracks. The hardware of the Kronos is unmatched but unfortunately it is hampered by antiquated software that does not help the creative process. Mine currently sits in my studio and is basically used as a sound module and a practice keyboard. As you stated the expansion sounds are RIDICULOUSLY expensive so I haven't purchased any either. I'll probably not sell it but I have though about it several times.
wow i dont feel that way at all! its simple for me. something you have to learn correctly and get used to. its similar to all the past Korg sequencers so yea, its easy
To my fellow Kronos owners and users. I will agree that this board comes armed with sophisticated complexities, however I'm also a experienced user/witness of new life and freshness that it will bring to your gear and gig setup. My kronos2 is fully complimented by the yamaha moxf8,and the Cp88.This trio conquers most music categories, but is lite years ahead of everything else when it comes to performing in the orchestral sense. In one statement summation..the complexities of your gear, once learned, are the strength of your performance.
Thank you! This saves valuable time. Nothing better than getting the hassle out of the way as quickly as possible....nothing ruins the enjoyment of music quite like all the legwork to just PLAY MUSIC.
I've been using my Kronos as my only means to record since 2014. I've always manually changed the track, so it was second nature to me, but this tip will definitely come in handy
Wow this was nice ! I haven’t been using my Kronos as I stated in another comment for sequencing, only as a sound module as well. But this is a game changer. I too feel like the workflow of the Kronos is a bit much. But you have inspired me to start working with it in a sequence capacity! Dope 👊🏾🎹 oh and please don’t sell your Kronos....
I don't think I will sell it... As much as I hate the sequencer.... It's an excellent board for live performance! I use it all the time for practice and as a sound module and controller in my studio.
Brilliant, thank you very much! I love the possibilities the Kronos offers, but it's really quite hard to get there, sometimes... Hacks like this help really a lot!
Good luck with it. It's a beast of a keyboard.... The only one that I know of that has 16 tracks of AUDIO in addition to 16 midi tracks. You could literally do a Whole song In there with background vocals and all.
Thank you so freaking much this was a badass tip I just got my board and I am trying to learn to sequence this helped solve a major issue I encountered
@@313muziqman actually I'm from Chicago but back in the day I was an aspiring artist... It was my dream to sign with Motown records. So I got the nickname from some frat brothers who knew that.
@@BigBrotherMotown Once while performing in Chicago, I met a cool, smooth Chicago keyboard player, can't recall his name but everybody calls him "Red". But of course, Chicago has a gazillion keyboard players.
Question I’m at The Kronos right now I’ve checked the Link/KBD BOX under control surface tab. How do I save this so every time I turn on the Kronos it stays checked??
And to make it even more disgusting it only comes with a quick start guide... 3000 Dollars for a workstation and it didn't even come with a proper MANUAL! lol
KBD must mean "keyboard" ... how do you change the meter while in sequencer recording mode...to have a 4/4 timing for just a few measures ...3/4 meter, for most of the song...
I wish I knew brother. I have given up on using the Kronos as a sequencer. It's an EXCELLENT board for performing but I have found the sequencer to be convoluted and difficult to operate with ease. It is indeed POWERFUL though. No other keyboard workstation that I know of besides the fantom G and maybe the Kurzweil offered 16 audio tracks as well as the midi tracks, but I have other sequencers in my studio that are much easier to use than the Kronos.
Its an amazing machine. I donsee similarities between korg triton sequencer and the kronos and also i see a similar type of function on the old roland xp 60/80 but its all good. I think its good to learn your gear for what it can do, but i understand your point definitely how the roland fantoms are or have a more simple intuitive way to sequence. Thanks
thanx for the info but thats not easier than simply changing the midi track above to the number that you want to record. OR select MULTI REC button top right and click on the button above the track that you want to record.(it will turn red)
Actually it's not easier.... what you are suggesting requires multiple actions ( a combination of screen taps and button presses or use of the jog wheel) to do something that can accomplished with ONE button press after its set up. Thanks for the info.
If you want to use the sounds WITH the effects in sequencer mode... DON'T select the sound by clicking on the sound in the tract... Instead you should 1. Click the drop down arrow in the upper right corner of the screen. 2. Select "copy from program" 3. Select your sound by clicking on the arrow next to PROGRAM 4. CHECK all the boxes of the effects you want to be copied over 5. Select the midi track you want the sound on by clicking the arrow next to MIDI TRACK 6. Then hit ok You will find that the sound you selected has been assigned to your chosen midi track WITH the effects included. This is by far the most CONVOLUTED way to select a sound that I have ever seen but unfortunately, if you want the sounds WITH the effects, it's the ONLY way to do it on the Korg.
Will anyone see this I wonder & have mercy on a struggling old 'sorta' Kronos newbie? I'm trying to sequence some tracks I can play along to in...Wait for it....5/4. Korg uses the term METER instead of TIME SIGNATURE, but anyway - I can't get the METER window to let me type in 5/4. A helpful guy who knows his stuff showed me a simple method, but it DOESN'T WORK on my Kronos LS! Any help?
