The Snowy river valley walking track in winter.
Winter 2023 #11 : Guthega Village - Illawong - Charlotte pass - Return.
Distance : 20 km return.
Walking conditions : Tracks, footpads, metal grills and snowfield crossings.
Notes : A winter crossing of the village link trails. The route follows the Snowy river valley for the whole way. In retrospect, I would mention that this walk is quite long, and most of a day is required to complete it. The soft snow is very tiring to walk apon for this distance. Much of the track was beneath the snow, so knowledge of the route is very helpful. Getting there and back in winter is also a challenge with the shorter daylight hours. 2023 was a year of light snowfalls, and I probably had it fairly easy.
Overall though, it is an excellent walk and is well suited to experienced and prepared bushwalkers.
