A circuit walk from Illawong, touring the two Twynam mountains.
Spring 2023 #3 : Guthega - Illawong - Suspension bridge - Visit to an igloo - Ridge climb to Little Twynam - View to Blue lake - Mt Twynam trig - Headwaters of Pounds creek - Illawong - Return.
Distance : Probably 14 km. 500m height gain.
Walking conditions : Snowfields crossed on foot to Illawong, and snowshoe walking on the range.
Notes : 20 cm of fresh snow had fallen on the previous day, and people were skiing from the carpark at Guthega all the way to Illawong for the first half of the day. The cover had refrozen and was just manageable on foot early in the day, but it was necessary to use snow shoes on the range, as there were large sheets of slick, frozen snow all along the route.
The igloo was in pristine condition when I first saw it, but by now had melted on one side. A rough snow wall had been built on the open end, probably as a wind break. As I noted earlier, the igloo seemed to take upwards of 200 bricks to construct.
Still developing the soundtrack, but finding that the results sound variable on different sound systems. My gear is pretty minimal, so the best I can do is make the sound OK from a laptop computer.
