one hard to swallow pill is that we don’t know kpop idols. we only know them through meaningless videos that were most likely staged. some kpop fans make it seem like they know every single thing about their favorite idols. girlie knowing their zodiac sign and birth date don’t mean anything👩🏻‍🌾 we just know snippets of their personalities👩🏽‍⚖️ we don’t know them and never will. they most likelyjust put on a façade and move on with their life. they give fans what they want, receive their check and live their life. we’re just a part of their life nothing more, nothing less.

I feel like people dotn realize how much kpop is influenced by western music. Such as hip-hop,pop and multiple other genres it's just presented differently. And it baffles me when people bash western music when their favs music is inspired by it. K-pop is just to some extent repackaged western music but in groups. So I think people should respect western artists more instead of bashing them. Edit: wow thank you so much for all of the likes 🤨😳
@keplygatbikinibottomsmooth6418
imo khiphop is influenced by western hip hop but kpop is distinct as its own thing and has evolved since OG old school kpop. i dont see the similarities, in fact western 'pop' has become so heavily influenced by hip hop and r&b these days its basically some unique fusion of those genres.
@mecha5409

Im happy they do because its their health and bussines, but artists gain something from their actions, if you feel bad you didnt do the same, its on you. I think its ridiculous to waste my time to stream songs or buy all versions of the album, but people do it and it pays off to the artists so if they are slaves to the marketing catches and comsumptionsim then what? If they think for bts to hit the fastes 100 million in the history of yt is their goal in life, then okay. Its their choice. i mean, i agree that knetz are way over their heads but two points: one: knetz do have some direct influence on the inner korean market as their reactions often end up gaining reaction from the companies and in turn, end up influencing the idols pretty often. they're inherently invaluable for us but for having a good standing in the home market is a pretty important point, which is why i guess i-fans pay so much attention to them. two: i have seen a bunch of i-fans act superior to knetz by funneling down anything they say and reducing them to racist, homophobic stereotypes while i-fans themselves act in highly racist, homophobic ways themselves. so as much as their opinion is dismissable, i do have a major problem with people who use that as an opportunity to claim to be the 'better fans'.

@vicki9937
@vicki9937 5 лет назад
btxjunkee ...really? Okay. tl;dr- kpop isn’t country yee haw music 🤠 While you can say there’s cute, dark, or whatever concepts, kpop still has an overarching style like any other genre. Many kpop songs have a specific formula, likely because of their companies. Kpop is usually very electric with fake instruments or synths. On top of that, kpop isn’t entirely about vocals or rapping skills. While those are factors, it’s also about the whole presentation (looks, music video, stages, etc). Even if a song is in English, you can still hear elements of kpop in the songs, like dance breaks, catchy choruses, generally simple lyrics, upbeat tempos (at least on most title tracks), and similar flows (optional partial chorus, verse, chorus, verse w/ more rap, chorus, bridge, optional dance break, final chorus sometimes repeated). You can tell it’s a hip hop song after the first 10 seconds. You can tell it’s a country song after the first 10 seconds. Same goes with kpop. While obvious comparisons can be made to western pop, older kpop fit this style perfectly, but a lot of groups now are going for a more westernized style to break out onto the American and European market. Songs like “Tell Me” by the Wonder Girls, “Hands Up” by 2pm, and even recent songs like “Regular” by NCT127 and “Kill This Love” by Blackpink are very “kpop”, while songs like BTS’s “Boy With Luv” are more western. Thanks 🤡

I got into an argument with some 12 year old Army’s on Twitter who were pretending to be adults. They were rudely commenting on a BTS/Spotify post saying “stop shoving shitty Kpop down our throats, Army’s will only support BTS” that made me so angry 😡 not only were they so bland that they only listen to one artist but they were trying to talk for all of Army. Anyway after a while arguing with them I realised I was talking to a brick wall and I remembered the old saying “never argue with an idiot, you’ll never win”. Haha I’m taking a break from Twitter, it’s so toxic. I’ll just follow BTS and my other favs on RU-vid and Insta.

I think a hard to swallow pill is that it’s okay to dislike something or a decision made by an kpop idol. About every day on Stan twitter I always see these posts about how “if you don’t like what they did then don’t say it out loud”. And if someone does express their opinion, then they end up on a cancel list. Whether it be not liking a song or being upset at what an idol did, it’s not bad to say it. Just like with life, you like some things and you dislike other things. I feel like rather than hurting their reputation, it would be good to hear constructive criticism than to just have fans who agree with everything they do.

My hard to swallow kpop pill: Poor management of a group and a group’s fan base can both either directly or indirectly affect one’s perception or overall emotional disposition towards a group. Take for example BTS, many people refuse to stan them because of their negative disposition towards the ARMY which indirectly affects their perception of BTS even though it ultimately shouldn’t. I for one have distanced myself from multiple groups because of either their fan base or shitty management even though I logically know it shouldn’t impact on how I feel towards the actual groups. It doesn’t change the fact that in the end it does actually impact how much I am interested in/ love a group. Which is really shitty, but people can’t control how they feel unfortunately. Kpop was created during the era of colour television so of course it's going to be heavily influenced by visuals. With western music, it's more about the music rather than the visuals, because American and British pop came into fruition way before the late 80s, which is when kpop began. So obviously idols have to be skinny and pretty, and their music videos have to be interesting and aesthetically pleasing, it's a part of why Kpop is the way it is today. It really bothers me when ignorant international fans say that visuals don't matter in Kpop, because the circumstances are different in Korea than they were in the western pop scene.

What Knetz say has more of an impact on the idols' careers than what international fans say. So, even if they say horrible things, it counts more _ because they're the ones buying the most merch and going to fanmeets etc... Otherwise, I agree with everything she said.

TEAAA oml ok so in my opinion,,, as long as non-asian (non-korean asians as well, love y’all 😔) idols take the time to understand korean and are ready to work hard I really do not see why ppl make such a fuss about them debuting. kpop is such a unique industry that gives endless creative potential to the artists going into it... why keep it so selective??? it’s kinda sad to think how many potential talents out there could be scared to debut bc of backlash :(

i swear the only reason why antis words have meaning is that we pay attention to them and believe that they're of some value. If we could've just ignored their comments, no one would give a shit about what they said. They only hold power if you believe they hold power. If you see it just report it and go or if its just a minor inconvenience, just ignore it and move on with your day.

I don’t think #2 is really that hard to swallow. It happens in all genres of music, no matter what country it is. The “newer and improved” artists will always be a priority over the older ones, and that’s mainly because older artists don’t usually stick with the current trends. Older artists who’ve already hit their prime (or what everyone assumes to be their prime) usually continue making the same music they made in their prime- even when it doesn’t hit the same way. But the unfortunate thing about the K-pop industry ( I haven’t seen this happen with K-Rappers, or any other genre ) is that depending on when they debuted, they have about two years to make a song/album that gets enough traction- and then after that they only have 6-8 years to continue making music. And by the time they hit 28 or 29, (girl groups) usually lose what traction they had- so they’re forced to go on hiatus until that company wants to use them, or they disband. And with Boy Groups, they get sent to military, and by the time all the members get out, they have a lot of fans who aren’t as into them, so the company does the same thing as girl groups. By the time all those idols are in their 30’s, they’re considered “novelty idols” and in the media, as much as they do finally get their well deserved respect, everyone treats them as if they’re only around to give advice and become talk show hosts. Although if there is any older group that I’m super proud of (although lbr some of the members are questionable ((not the one who got married tho, I’m proud of him))) is Super Junior. We all know they don’t have very much traction anymore- but they seem to be doing what they want. And at this moment, it’s dabbling in Latino music so life just seems all hunkydory for them.

my kpop hard to swallow pill: Most storylines and theories that some groups apparently have literally make no sense and was just created for money making. They put "easter eggs" like symbols in their videos because they KNOW fans will recognize them and want to know what all of that means. So what do they do? They are watching the music videos over and over again, make posts about the mv on other social media sites...basically they promote their idol indirectly. And what makes streaming? Money. What makes promoting? Other people will also watch the mv= money. With that being said, yes theories are most of the time just a marketing strategy, so don't be that frustrated if you don't understand what is going on in your faves mv's.

1:50 thank you!! Everytime i try to exlain to someone that wonder girls could've lasted longer they always reply with something like "No, they wanted to disband; it was about time" . Wonder Girls said themselves that JYP always changes his priority, when they had a comeback he was more invested with Unnies and Twice. The girls were fed up. He also gave them a long hiatus just because their american debut didn't go as planned.

I think this video was actually really well done and not offensive in any way, I think I agreed with everything and I appreciate that you explained the reason why you think so~ I think some like “unpopular kpop opinions” can actually sometimes just be mean and rude, it’s okay to say this is my least favorite video from them, or like I don’t get this groups concept but it’s okay if you like them. It’s just getting rude when you say someone is ugly someone shouldn’t be doing that or being in that group, that someone should quit because they’re talentless (I hate these types of opinions) but these were all respectful I think, thanks for the video💛

I agree with everything except the last point. The one about Knetz, I have to slightly disagree since kpop groups still heavily rely on their Korean fanbase to retain their fame. If k-netz gather enough force and vitriol, it can seriously damage an idol's/group's career. Park Bom's drug scandal, Hyuna and E'Dawn's dating scandal all blew up partly bcos of k-netz. I also really don't wanna care about their opinions but not when it has the potential to negatively impact idols :/

its so easy to hate online and defend my faves, and then i take a step back and realize that why should i even seriously fight. Its not even worth it. and it really made me think that antis words wouldn't even matter if we just ignored it. But so many people didnt and now anything antis said is blasted even though heres so few of them. and i think what we need to recognize is that people do things that we don't like. and even if it hurts and it sucks, but you ignore it and go. When you ignore it and go, their words have no meaning. thats not saying that you shouldn't call out people for saying horrible shit, but you need to recognize when to fight and when to give up the fight. and a lot of times, we need to give up the fight when we go against people who have no intent to change.

The thing about people who disagree with number 3 that really gets me is how many foreigners are the ones bitching about non-Asian people trying to be idols. Not to mention they have no issue with non-korean asians being KOREAN pop idols but they have a problem with someone of another race being an idol. Like it’s not even about people who aren’t from the culture they have a problem with it’s 110% a race thing. If people from Korea were the ones who had a problem with it I might listen but when some non asian person from America starts calling non-asian trainees and idols koreaboos or cringy or racist it’s really embarrassing and annoying. Stop being fake offended for people who aren’t even offended it’s bizarre and unnecessary

Well I also realized the longevity issue...it can’t be changed. The public is always gonna like fresh things. It’s just a fact that when one group gains fans, another group loses fans. This is why I’m very choosy with the groups I stan. Some groups completely disband and go solo after their contract ends, but some will stick together even if their company goes bankrupt. Idc that my favorite group doesn’t get a lot of promotions, as long as they’re together, I’m one happy fan.

thank you for talking about #3 because everyone seems to skip over the fact that a lot of groups take from hip hop and have recently been taking from Latin American cultures! Everyone talks about how it's a Korean thing and how the genre is becoming too western, but kpop has had MAJOR western influences from the start. I think if non Asian people are properly trained and learn Korean they can respectfully be idols.

About the non asians in kpop i once saw a youtuber who said a similar thing she also mentioned that non asians often write and produce majority of the music in kpop and also kpop is extremley influenced by many cultures particularly latin and black oriented cultures. So it doesnt make sense for non asians to not be allowed as it would be a double standard

Longevity is there more with male groups, obviously, because Sk (and pretty much the world) sees women as disposable as they age and their youth is a big part of their appeal. Yet SNSD still show up monthly in the lists of most popular groups. Male groups fade a little, but for ones like Super Junior and EXO it may be down to personal preference too. They got the money and the fame so why break their necks when they can slow down and enjoy the fruits of what they worked for. Fans will still be there for comebacks.

One of my opinions or pills is that just because you like an obscure or underrated group doesn’t make you special. I see a lot of people saying that if you like a mainstream group you have no taste but if you like an underrated group you have taste. It doesn’t matter if one is more popular than the other because people have different opinions and will naturally like different groups if opinions differ. The bandwagon hate to mainstream groups go way out of control.

Do they? SM is the only one that still has the most active 2nd gen idols while all the others disbanded and got forgotten. TXQV, Super Junior and Shinee still regularly release music. Their members are literally booked and busy now. GG and f(x) are mostly solo artists now but they are still out there. Hell, even Kangta who was in the first kpop group ever released music in 2016. I think that when it comes to longevity only idols from bigger companies have any chance to survive now.

#1 highly agree. I’ve had days where I feel shitty for not streaming enough. Like what if I don’t like the song or I’m busy and don’t have time or can’t get wifi’? And the social media: I’ve had to take time off of Stan instagram and I don’t even touch Stan Twitter because of all the toxicity. Kpop was supposed to be a coping mechanism for my anxiety, not make it worse 😒
