Well Gray Television now owns the Meredith stations, and "Aerial" would be a no-no for KPTV, since the music package is overrated. Should have gone with "Stream".
Pretty much the same thing happened in the Twin Cities--although I'm not sure that I'd really call either case "weird". The only reason that KPDX (here) and WFTC/KFTC (Twin Cities) were Fox affiliates in the first place is that KPTV and KMSP had a falling-out with Fox, after those stations started cherry-picking the network's shows. Since they just happened to be owned by Chris-Craft/United, they naturally would end up becoming UPN affiliates. But, when that station group was essentially bought out by Fox itself, they both eventually became the stronger part of a local duopoly; consequently, the Fox affiliation reverted, even though the duopoly here was spun off instead to Meredith (so that Fox could end up with a duopoly in Orlando).
@@ericjonmagnuson2728 So basically, KMSP and WFTC had the same thing with Portland. KMSP was a UPN affiliate in January 16, 1995, while WFTC was a Fox affiliate. Not saying that is weird, it's just strange that KPTV was once a Fox affiliate during the network's launch in October 1986. KPTV removed the affiliation to become a independent station, with PTEN's launch in 1993, UPN's affiliation in 1995, and then returned to Fox after about 14 years. KPDX however, retained the Fox station in 1988 until KPTV's return to Fox in 2002, and UPN's affiliation until the shutdown between both UPN and The WB (the said two networks merged to create The CW), while KPDX bought the MyNetworkTV affiliation. Not saying that is weird, it is odd....
