Comments and ratings are appreciated. A demonstration of every freestyle nunchaku pass I've figured out over the last three years. I plan to continue editing this footage to include helpful technique tips, an explanation of the passing framework, and slow-motion replays of each move. I'd like to do similar videos for freestyle nunchaku rolls, bounces and aerials. Till I get things done though, this'll have to do! Music is the fantastic DJ Shadow - Erase You (vocals by Cris James) on Shadow's new album, The Outsider.

For some of them I did too when I first leanrt/thought of them. But the more you practice them, the more you technique refines for putting them in the right place, your timing improves so your only at full stretch for a fraction of a second to take the catch, and your flexibility improves from the stretching. So keep trying matey.

Maybe. It depends on the length of your nunchaku and your arms, and your girth and the flexibility of your arms, and the accuracy and timing of the technique. It's not easy, but never give up.

Cheers Sean, I still think the vid could be improved - it should say each pass name at least. And each of these passes is a mirror pass, from one stance to the opposite version, a full pass tutorial showing any one to ahy other one would be too long for youtube to allow.

Under the leg passing? I can understand why you'd think it dangerous, but it's really not - the path the nunchaku follows carries the striking stick around the thigh if you miss the catch, hitting the top of the thigh and not balls - unless you're a very clumsy practitioner. I have never (in over four years) hurt myself with this move.

Re: The move you do 1:11 into the vid. Do you have to be slim to pull off that move? I have a little girth around my midsection and have a hard time getting the stick to wrap around.
