I'd like to think Krobus liking horseradish is completely unique to him. It has nothing to do with him being a shadow person or anything from their culture. Other monsters might scratch their heads at him loving it too. Instead, for some reason, Krobus just really likes horseradish.
Krobus is the perfect roomie. He is unfailingly positive about the relationship and strives to be helpful. He seems really happy to be there and appreciates our efforts to make a good home. I'm an introvert and have always disliked sharing my home with other NPCs... having Krobus move in was a fantastic idea! : )
I always had Krobus pegged as someone who didn't want to be around others very much. A case of "I'd like to be left alone, but not BE alone." Which is why he lives in the sewers, he is close to people, he is close to his own kind, he can visit when he so desires, it made sense. Plus when the farmer moves in and is able to enter the sewers, he makes a friend. Also, thumbnail had me thinking of glitched out blue guy. Can't remember the name
It’s also interesting that krobus must have learned English (or whatever language you have the game set to). The only reason we can understand the dwarf is because of the translation guide, but we never get a “shadow people” translation guide so he must have put in the effort to learn our language, even though he didn’t really intend on interacting with us
That just makes me think that Krobus may just like gossip xD Learned the language just to listen in on people, he probably knows all the drama in town xD
I think you might be over-analyzing the horseradish thing. In my head-canon, Horseradish to Krobus is a human delicacy he got to try once and found it delicious. Therefore he loves it as a gift.
Aro ace Krobus ARO ACE KORBUS! I'm glad he was added as a platonic option, as a "relationships are not needed to be fulfilled" But it's always nice to share your life with some one you care for, like family and friends. :> I'm not aro but i am ace so I'm required by law to comment (?)
Yoo fellow aroace!! Having someone move in with you is somewhat needed for completion and I was planning on just not having anyone move in so I was ecstatic when I found out you could have Krobus as a roommate. It'd be awesome if there were other characters that could just be roommates but Krobus is the best character in the game so I'm cool with Krobus being the one to get the privilege of it!
I know this will never happen but I think it would be adorable if you could be married and have Krobus as a roommate. Just imagine the strange family photos and your spouse's reactions to living with a shadow person.
Horseradish is used to make wasabi which is hot, the shadow people live deep down in the lava levels which would be hot, a different type of heat, but still. Maybe there's some sort of logic there?
Ok ok Leap called me out with that ending. I was highly contemplating divorcing Shane and befriending Krobus. We would be roomies and spill the tea everyday. How could you? 😭
Sdv is really LGBT friendly and gives special dialogue. They are meant to be for aro/ace people and it isn't really meant to be a romantic option but a commited qpr. Qpr is queer platonic relationship which basically means that it's a platonic relationship that dips into some of the aspects meant to be seen as romantic. For everyone it's different but in krobus's case they are willing to live with and raise a family with you but not reproduce. I think also that the reason why adoption isn't requested is mainly because it'd be too difficult to undergo the adoption process while krobus lives there and has an onmious room filled with chains directly next to the bedroom with no seperating walls while you "live alone"
It would be really cool if Krobus and you could, like, raise your own shadow children that you rescued or something, though. There are mods to turn your kids into shadow ones, though there isn’t that sort of lore (outside of what would be my personal headcanons) to my knowledge and you have to still obtain said children from a previous marriage.
@@sophiathefurbst I would literally die for Stardew valley making all children resembling the partners or if it let you customize them (maybe like a scene we're you can actually pick which one you adopt)
There is an interesting tidbit in the stardew valley wiki about Krobus, under the Housemate tab, that i found interesting: "Instead of divorce, Krobus can be evicted for free. However, the player still needs to do this through the book in the Mayor's Manor. *After Krobus moves out, he is silent towards the player and will refuse gifts.*" Along with that dialogue you mentioned near the end of the video about the player nibbling Krobus in bed, this leads me to believe there might be a hint of romantic feelings, or at least strong connection, in the arrangement.
Personally, I think there's another tidbit that helps blur the line between roommate and romantic partner with Krobus; With all marriage candidates, you give them a mermaid pendant instead of the typical engagement ring. But Krobus accepts a void pendant...which looks exactly like a darker version of a mermaid pendant.
If you visit the seller of the mermaid pendant after Krobus moves in with you, he says he's "glad it worked out for you," even though you never bought the mermaid pendant from him. It's probably just a coding oversight, but amusing to note.
Tbh I pick krobus as my roommate because frankly I don’t wanna be judged by myself for picking anyone else. It’s also (I my opinion) the only option that just feels like two friends hanging out in the same house(like all those funny sitcoms), and isn’t tied to romance in the slightest
Look. The guy doesn't go outside except in winter. He likes bitter things like slime, algae, void eggs, etc. It makes sense he would love horse radish, and he WOULD love someone bringing him some random thing he doesn't have access to. I like trying new things, everyone does. Krobus doesn't need an explanation for liking horse radish.
The one thing Stardew Valley is missing for me is non-standard marriage candidates, like how HM/SOS had goddesses, witches, kappas and stuff. Krobus is a step in the right direction for sure but I'd sure love to be able to smooch him, maybe also have a platonic option for some of the human characters as well
For me, he’s a fun character, and a little more interesting than a few of the marriage candidates. But the “no fence fixing” thing, though understandable, is a deal-breakEr. :)
I think Krobus loves wild horseradish because it suits his quirky personality, and it fits the theme of him liking the unusual or the unsettling. Most people would find biting into raw horseradish to be EXTREMELY unpleasant, as it is a very potent flavor and can be quite spicy. It makes sense that a monster loves a food most humans find unpalatable (unless it's prepared as a condiment)
Maybe an adventurer had a Wild Horseradish on their person, perished in the mines, Krobus find the remains including the radish, ate the radish, (although at this point it would be way gross.) and liked it. This is the, sadly, best I can come up with.
Krobus KRoBuS KROBUS!!!!! I *LOVE* Krobus so much man. He is such a funky guy and tries very hard to be to understand you and humans is very cute. Taking him to the movies was such a treat I'm sad there is no movies he likes. Even though I experience Krobus mostly platonically, maybe queer platonically, i have to make atleast ONE ☝️ "they were roommates..." Joke I've been off the tube due to work so I'm glad i cought this video early Still love your scripting, pacing and editing, awesome work!!!
Also i forgot to add, how wonderful it is to me that you are given the option of a platonic relation, it's really nice that having your funky shadow friend living in a shared house and that is in game considered just as fulfilling as marriage. At least mechanically in the game. Makes me happy having that option as some one whose always been very close to their friends.
"A (monster jewelry piece)? How did you.... Oh, wow. *Yes,* I'll move in with you, if you'd like," really does not sound like a platonic reaction to a roommate request. We all know the farmer's getting some of that Krobussy.
i don't think the shaddow person that gives you the magnifying glass is krobus, since if you met him before, its just said to be shaddow brute or something, wouldnt make sense if the farmer already knew of krobus, nor for krobus not to recognize the farmer before the fact
@@melindacadarette3447 Stardrop flavor is unique to the taster based on their favorite thing. Krobus isn't the only villager who dislikes it but in those cases it's because the favorite thing is something lost to them, so to be reminded of it is saddening instead of comforting. I think in Krobus's case it has to do with being outcast from his own people because of his interest in humans.
Literally Krobus has nothing sinister about him. Just a void spirit gone rouge (in a good way in this case) and that is why he is my most favorite in the entire world. I’d marry him if he allowed it lol
Krobus my love! I don’t have much Stardew merch, but I do own a krobus plush lol. Also, he gets all of my wild horseradishes just on principle if I’m not using them for spring seeds lol
“Void eggs for your emo chicken boy dreams.” Leap calling me out, haha, though honestly, I never needed to buy void eggs from Krobus as gifts for Sebastian. By the time you reach Krobus, there is already a plethora of frozen tears, obsidian, sashimi, and pumpkin soup in my inventory. My friend often buys the void eggs just to gift them to Krobus, haha. It took until playing multiplayer with me to realize she was spending 5K every time doing that.
If I haven't hatched a void chicken by the time I reach Krobus, that's often one of my first purchases. That would be a very expensive gift, considering wild horseradish straight off the ground sells for a max of 100g lol!
my first priority in my Stardew worlds is to get as much sashimi as possible. For the first year until I marry Sebastian, there is almost always some in my inventory- ;-;
i wish I could do that, but i think in my main world, by the end of year one I was married to Sebastian, and at like, level 40 in the mines at the most-
Kronos is one of my favorite characters, too. I was overjoyed when he became a roommate option. Nothing wrong with me headcanoning a romantic relationship between one of my farmers and him. He might just become my default option when I get back into SDV. ^u^
Personally I see the "Housemates" thing in the same way as the "They were best friends, roommates even!" when historians try to explain a clearly gay couple from antiquity
Haha the liked movie actually help me get to 10 hearts with him. It was one of the last things I needed to do for perfection and saved me a couple hours of playing, I didn’t just want to sleep and skip days 😂
in my headcanon/gamefanfic my farmer marries Shane, Abigail, and Sebastian....and Krobus. (She also lives on the four corners farm, and each of her spouses has their own house). And in my head, Krobus IS in love with the farmer, but he thinks there is something weird about being in love with a human, so he claims it's friendship. Anyway, if anyone knows a good "make Krobus ACTUALLY marriageable" mod I would be VERY grateful~ (bonus points if babies are included)
I've gotten to the point where I make up little storylines for my new Stardew characters, to keep the game fresh. And maybe it's creating drama for the sake of drama, but my plan for my newest character was in fact to have her marry Shane and have a child with him, and then divorce him and have Krobus move in as a long-term roommate who helps to raise the child. So I'm feeling a tad called out!
I wish we could see Krobus have more friends. Abigail and Sebastion would love him, while Linus would probably befriend him fairly quickly if they're both seen as outsiders.
I personally think of him as a roommate, since thats what the game says and since I'm aro/ace. Mechanic wise, hes similar to a marriage candidate, but i don't like people romantasising the friendly neighbourhood demon
People who hate Krobus: "Kill the Shadow Person!" Me with 999 Megabombs: "I wouldn't if I were you. I'll smoke this god damn town if it keeps my little shadow buddy from harm."
I love Krobus but I can’t have him as a roommate because I already feel bad about killing the monsters and I can’t deal with being constantly reminded that they’re sentient. Not to mention the possibility of killing my official best friend’s relatives 😭
Not only that, but assuming you were raised your spouses memory, because you want to restart their friendship there other parent doesn’t even know who they are 4:36
I figure the horse radish thing is just 'cause it's spicy, spicy stuff can make you feel hot, and the shadow people mainly live in the volcano? I don't really know.
Perhaps while leaving the mines, Krobus found a horseradish and it showed him he’d be able to survive above ground, giving him fresh hope. So he associates them with that feeling
God, I love krobus, theyre such a nice little gremlo and I adore them. Also, sorry, but I may or may not have installed some more "romantic" dialogue mods for them, I always liked them better then the other villagers. So it's nice to be able to get grandpas approval rather then marrying someone I don't like. Maybe I'm just looking too much into it lol
Horseradish is considered really spicy and isnt exactly super yummy to eat so I think him loving it is just a weird thing he does! Like if you saw your friend IRL just eating straight wasabi no sushi or ginger. That's weird af right? Valid for this lil weirdo to bite into a horseradish like I do sweet onions~
Me and my sisters play SV pretty casually, the only exception being Krobus. They will literally speedrun have Krobus as a roommate on each save file, while I'm just there already married to Harvey and waiting for the tears when eventually one of them will have to settle for Sebastian.
