What always bugged me about the old metal ones is that the original sculptor modeled the legs off of horse anatomy instead of canine or feline, so they look REALLY weird. LOVE the redesign.

These look fuckin awful imo. Theyre supposed to be alien, not punk dogs yolked into oblivion on T and creatine. At least the old models looked like some bizarre alien that I’d be terrified if it were running after me. These id probably laugh at for evolution taking the piss (before promptly being eaten of course).

@@thecappeningchannel515I can see that but reckon it could be done better. I like how, for instance, these guy’s forearms look very much like person arms, to hint to that gradual metamorphosis from humanoid kroot to kroot hound.

The Kroot Hounds getting a rules glow up to match their model refresh is a huge win. Hopefully the Carnivores and Krootox will get similar boosts!

always been a huge fan of kroot and these releases have made me more excited than anything we’ve had released for warhammer in a while. hopefully GW eventually gives this sort of love to other, forgotten factions across the game

When I first went to my LGS to actually try and play 40k, the other players were shocked to learn that I enjoyed running a ton of kroot and vespid (as well as breachers) and not the tau meta at the time, which was the dreaded triptide. Every Guard and Ork player there, and still to this day, immediately wanted to be friends and we still slaughter each other with our Horde armies to this day.

I hope that, when on their own, the kroot act similarly to orks or even tyranids, but when with tau they operate as the ones moving forward and engaging in melee/taking objectives while tau are the ones clearing objectives from afar or softening opponents that are on them, which is what kroot are supposed to be.

Heres hoping that tactical drone squads will be reworked to be something you can actually take, like the new kroot hounds. If they had an ability like hunting hounds or savior protocols and weren't 70 points for 4 then they might be useable.

I think based on the hound's "Kroot Infantry" keyed ability the new Kroot carnivores are going to get a melee focused unit in the box, like Strike teams vs Breachers. Based off that I think the likely remaining reveals are: Kroot Calvary, Kroot Calvary Shaper, Kroot Carnivore Melee unit, and Greater Knarloc (I second the hope!). Of course, it could just be to support Farstalkers, but traditionally I think GW like to mostly treat Kill Team specific units as second class citizens so I doubt that'd earn a rewording of the ability.

I was watching a video on Kroot lore today and learned that there were Kroot with a teleport ability they’d acquired! Could be very cool if they were added to the range! But if I had one choice it would be the Giant Knarloc.

Maybe, maybe not... Nothing stopping GW from going say; March: Dark Angel general release + Tau launch box April: Codex Custodes + Codex Orks w/their 1 model each May: Tau general release The typical release pattern outside of the very start and/or end of an edition trends more towards, 'big model wave + codex' -> '1 or 2 single model release codices' -> 'big model wave + codex', etc, etc...

I’m glad that Tau will finally have some melee support, and in a way that fits their lore, coming together with other peoples and maximising their strengths. Only for the imperium to crush them down, I suppose. Good stuff! And as Votann player, I’m mature enough to know how these things work. No one should expect to get new models so soon after a previous release! I am hoping they might get something the end of this year however.

I guess they initially showed 'about half' the range because it was what was in the battle box. I wonder if they will also release a combat patrol for kroot. I could see a combat control containing the mounted character, 5-10 kroot hounds, 10 carnivores, and something big like a refreshed Greater Knarloc.

I love the design of the new kroot hounds but I kinda wish they were in slightly more dynamic poses to make it look more like the speedy harriers chasing prey down that their rules make them out to be. Not to say they're bad, nowhere near, but something like the Malifaux guild hounds or even zombicide dogs are a lot more energetic feeling. The rampagers make these hounds look slow in comparison.

Just got back into 40k after 20+ years out of the hobby. And you're chanel has been such an inspiration (still got my old metal space wolf's, but you got me looking at "thousand sons" then "necrons" before settling on my now beloved tau) But I didn't like the kroot or vespid sculpts. So was going with 4th sphere for the painting..... But now I'm going to get this kroot. 😁

The army is essentially 2 thematically different armies forced to be together. Feels like the future samurai army lost out to the skinny ork army this time round.

The Kroot are supposed to be mercenaries, but there are no rules for them to be hired / allied to any other faction. For lore reasons, the Imperium wouldn't, and for sanity reasons the Kroot wouldn't likely work for the Drukhari. Nidz are straight out, of course. But Votaan, Aeldari and maybe even Neceons could work. Chaos could be possible as well, although I'd be *really* wary of eating anything Nurgle provides...

Smart marketing by GW, they get the people who actually like the kroot, but also they are somewhat forcing the hand of die hard tau players to buy this box, because the codex is in it. Thats literally the only reason the codex is in here

Fenrisian wolves are 30pts for 5 models with advance and charge. I think kroot hounds, with their conditional rules, can stay at 30pts too.

Wow! If I need to field some Kroot hounds in ym army after the codex drops, I'm quite excited to go hunting for the old metal ones lol. They just looks sooooo much better, in almost every way possible? Like I can definitely see what they've gone for with the hounds being a transformed version of regular kroot and the increased similarities with regular kroot. But, I really do HATE the lack of a neck, the loss of their long snappy beaks with protruding lower jaws, the bulkier silhouette (which changed them from appearing like really fast/sharp/assassin-like to these bulky brawlers with arms at least twice as muscly as the regular kroot's). Also design wise from what we've seen so far there don't appear to be any big open jaws with tongues from what I can see either. Which is just less variation and also a shame.

Expected and approved. Although I was thinking a herd and herder unit similar to the killteam but with more hounds and less warriors. I cant wait to see what the knarloc will look like. I guess GW is attempting to slim down the 40k session for the Adepticon reveal show. Could possibly get a sprinkle of new kroot leading up to Adepticon
