When I close my eyes and listen, I see myself riding a fire mare across mountains with a shining glaive in my hand. Hollywood today has forgotten the magic of truly great film scores.
@AboveAverageMan97 I don’t know about a remake but there will be a film adaptation of “Armada” by Ernest Cline. He wrote “Ready Player One”. Armada is a very similar story to The Last Starfighter.
HolyThursday it’s a fantastic fantasy sci fi film. I watched this as a kid and even with all the CGI nowadays (yes ok it looks dated) but the sheer cheesiness of it and the extreme fantasy and originality makes it a classic in my eyes. The music is orgasmic too 😂
This film/soundtrack rings incessantly in my heart ..... a childhood dream ..... everything about this film and soundtrack is flawless and timeless!!! The 80's rocked and I had the luxury of being apart of it as a child. Is there a single woman out there that shares this vision of Krull with me!!???!!?? My dream!!
The 80's were a singular moment in history, and I'm glad I was there as a child to enjoy it. Not just the Indy and Star Wars films, but even Krull, Ladyhawk, Last Starfighter, et al. Oh to go back and live it all over again...
totally, I was a kid/teen in the eighties and yes I loved this film but the soundtrack is sublime, all those great films like indianna jones star wars etc we were blessed to grow up in that era and us ladies were a rare breed who loved big action movies, x
Born in 78, a true child of the 80s. I wish I could go back to the 80s, EVERYTHING was better, everything was magical, life was fun and exciting. Yeh, not anymore 😔
I agree that this movie is very underrated. IMDB gave it a 6. I love this movie! Ive been revisiting some of my favorite movies from my childhood in the 80s. I started with Wargames. Couldnt find The Beastmaster for download So I looked for Krull. As soon as those opening credits started rolling and this theme music came on I was overwhelmed with a wave of sweet nostalgia. I'd forgotten what really beautiful and grand music was in this. Takes me back when movies were magic and had classical, timeless themes to them that could inspire a young boy to want to be a hero. Not like the pc-indoctrinating garbage that oozes out of Hollywood now.
I saw this movie when it first came out in 83' and this opening music knocked me out! The movie was so,so but I remember watching the movie over and over just to hear that incredible music! James Horner, you are already missed! Godspeed my friend!
Puissance. Pure, straight-forward, indefatigable puissance. This score is top notch, my 1st or 2nd favorite ever. I listen to it often. If you ever get stuck in an adventure; if you must rescue a certain someone, if you must tromp through hideous & horrible landscapes, if you must find the golden McGuffin, if you must decide of whether or not the butler did it, or if you have to learn the women in the red dress is is actually a man in a suit, then this music is for you. Remember it. It will never fail you, never let you down, and forever fuel the grit you'll need to see you through your ordeal. Let this music help you persevere, 'til you get back to calm, lovely pastures, hilltops, quiet abodes, sandy shores and the ebullience of peacetime, fellow life-traveler!
I've always loved this score. Colwyn and Lyssa breaks my heart. The Ride of the Firemares would not have been the same without James. This score "pairs well" with the Wrath of Khan.
God bless the 1980's, growing up as I did, we had some of the best movies. Krull, Star Trek II, Battle Beyond the Stars, Star Trek III, and all had a score by James Horner. It was like every year we got an awesome sci-fi or fantasy film. Think of it, from 1980 on, we had Raiders of the Lost Ark, Battle Beyond the Stars, Empire Strikes Back, Star Trek II, Krull, The BeastMaster, DragonSlayer, the list goes on and on.
RIP James Horner, am awesome musical composer. Totally snubbed for an Oscar nod here for his musical score, and the same for his musical score for Glory 👍
Always loved this soundtrack. I wonder if there are any Star Trek fans on here who know that this film's star, Kenneth Marshall, played Eddington on DS9.
Probably my favorite movie of all time in the fantasy-sci-fi-wizards-knights-horses--cyclops-swords-laser-guns-and-knifey-frisbee genre. Plus, young Liam Neeson.
Saw this in the cinema and it felt like a proper adventure film where I was young enough to be scared but still enjoy. Love this soundtrack. Has that epic big film score feel.
Still fresh and exciting in 2019, as it was back then. Horner took some of his music from this movie, and dropped it on *_Star Trek,_* and *_Aliens_* later on. 👍🏽💪🏽💯🙏🏽
I was just recently watching this movie for the first time in a long time while cooking and turned away during the main theme, only to come back from the pantry with onions and potatoes in my hands and saying "do I hear James Horner?"
@@spankeyfish he scored my all-time fave movie, Aliens. Some of that bled over into Avatar, and there was some unused material that made it into Die Hard.
I liked the film when it came out back in the 80's it was a classic for me back then along with Battle Beyond The Stars another James Horner score and star trek
Krull, The Last Starfighter, Star Trek II, The Empire Strikes Back, Explorers, Willow, Conan the Barbarian... this was my childhood. This was the 80s. It was glorious time to be a kid.
Yes, I agree that's one of his best - this and Zorro and Avatar. And I love the score of Willow also, which has a similar rousing feel as Krull (even though he lifted the main theme from anoother composer's work, but then he did that in Aliens too, and he may be forgived because both times it fits.).
Totally underrated movie. Back when real, gigantic sets were built by hand. The movie sets were real places you could visit and explore unlike the the latest CGI orgies.
God bless the 1980's that gave us not only movies like Krull, but James Horner, he had some of the 80's most recognized sci-fi films blasting his scores, Battle Beyond the Stars, Star Trek II, Star Trek III, Krull, Wolfen, Aliens, Willow, Cocoon and a few other lesser knowns.
This has many similarities to his later scores from Star Trek II and III. Wonderful use of low choirs, subtle synths and bursts of the high French horns. His distinctive style made all his film scores epic. One of the tue great major film composers who died way too soon.
This film came out not long before my local cinema closed and as we were at the arse end of UK release process at the time, the cinema closed before I could see it on the big. I would love to watch it in a cinema. The best fantasy films come from the early 80s.
I wathed Ready Player One the plane when it came out. Good movie I thought. I loved that little Easter egg of the glaive. Even though it was short I like how it was quite prominent. I must watch that again in 4K. There must be so many things I missed.
It was up against some heavy hitters! That was when our Football and Baseball teams were getting scouted by PROs right out of high school after being undefeated for over a year. Bowie High was MOTIVATED, but then we got trickled down to nothing. Our track team didn't want to get fed to West Point.
this is a beautiful beautiful beautiful gem of a score to a beautiful film of course love the whole entire film as a complete package a the lovely beautiful actress in this simply a treasure peace everyone.
This is my favourite James Horner masterpiece. So metal. His theme for Battle Beyond The Stars is so masterful aswell...2 of my favourite films as a kid and his music brought good influences to me when i wrote metal riffs in my band \m/
@@jonahfalcon1970 I think that's his first score ever for a major film - and the movie was basically The Masgnificant Seven in space! And don't get my even started on the shape of that spaceship...
Eu também.Tinha dez anos.Amava ver este filme com meu pai e meus primos na sessão da tarde .Todos na sala ...ahhh..Essa trilha sonora invade minhas lembranças.
80s was an interesting junction in time.. it was a rare moment where the paths of giants intersected with an upcoming new generation they would forever leave a lasting impression on ...the last of the romantics who were still alive, who left behind their legacy for would-be followers who of ofcourse would be the children of the 80s.
kind of sounds like a star trek theme, close. i do remember the movie as a kid, always loved to watch it when it came on hbo, cinemax or showtime on the old cable box and tvs heh
I love this music, it's a great childhood memory. I used the sofa arms as a fire mares and pretend I was flying during the scene. It's a very enjoyable film too, but critics don't seem to like it that much.
The back story on this was that the score was recorded in London by the LSO. After the last session was finished, the players gave Horner a standing ovation.
You can hear many of his later themes and musical snippets all through this soundtrack! Mr. Horner was a fantastic composer, and he is truly missed by all who loved his music! We lost Mr. Goldsmith first, then Mr. Horner. It will be a dark, sad day when Mr. Williams finally leaves us. We have then lost all three of the greatest Cinematic Composers of all-time.....but lets just keep Mr. Williams in our POSITIVE thoughts for now......
