I’ll always love how Matt’s KSP videos have evolved pretty much into him just talking about random stuff with very occasional interjections about the game that’s playing in the background

Idea: how about not only an unfolding base, but a cube that unfolds into a base and back

The changes in diameter on a rocket are usually called tapers, sometimes chokes.

The five engines layout is called a quincunx, apparently.

Idea for a follow-up video: Can you use an engineer to fold the base? If you can, how about sending some boosters, folding the base and moving in to a different body? somewhere challenging? Love your work!

RE: In situ craft reconfiguration causing physics bugs. I found out that Kerbal Joint Reinforcement is causing an issue with it's extra sticky joints. After removing KJR, field reconfiguration is much more smooth now. So if you're running that mod, maybe try without it and see if it works better.

Video idea: make a probe that crashes into the surface of the sun, before crashing its sends data about the crash and heat and stuff.

The rocket looks more realistic than most do in KSP, but it does strike me as a little short. That's probably just because I'm used to seeing the Falcon 9 at this point, though, which is pretty thin. I absolutely love the base concept, though, that's a cool idea! (By the way, I think the pieces over the engines are called fairings as well, as they held additional solid rocket motors to pull the first stage away from the second stage but were otherwise hollow ;). )

If you could do the base with two lower side sections instead of the tall middle section to compliment the existing side sections it might be more stable as they could try opening out before landing with the boosters at 45 degrees to where they were for this mission. Then the boosters might be able to stay in place and it will land with more stability. The solar panels could do with facing away from your base instead of towards it so you can orientate the other way round relative to the sun. Nice design though! Can see it took a lot of work to get it all perepared and it flew nicely.

I decided to make a modular base on the mun, the only thing that's really difficult is attaching the landing legs in construction mode.

The thing that's making your engine sounds cut out isn't waterfall, or KSP, it's better time warp. I had the same issue.

I play alot of simple rockets 2 and I just got ksp. The learning curve is surprisingly hard. You make building a rocket look easy meanwhile it took me 5 minutes to learn How to use the semetry tool.

I think a little bit of wobble is an understatement, one time, I removed a solar panel on a normal space station, and it kill my kerbal and glitched out the solar array beyond repair.

engine sound cutting out is a issue with KSP itself. Its already confirmed and will be fixed in 1.12.2

No intention to disrespect, but the base looks like a masculine member with landscape included... to add to it, it even has the pole of the antenna coming out of the tip... yeah... the weirdest comment on youtube ever, but it needed to be said. On a side note, I don't know why people don't find the Mün interesting... to me it's magical... I've visited a lot of moons and planets in the game, but the Mün is still my favorite... I've built entire cities on it, with ginormous space stations around it and I've searched for all it's Easter eggs, and it keeps on being my favorite. Whenever I want to relax I take a trip to the Mün... Minmus is kind of boring, 'cause is small and kind of plain, but the Mün is full of features and easter eggs and all... Great video BTW... I love your content!

Not gonna lie that transition was smooth

Matt Lowne: Launches single-piece space stations with huge fairings. Me: Just launches single-piece space stations sans fairings and includes KJR (Kerbal Joint Reinforcement) with strategic use of autostruts and physical struts and a more...gentle launch profile. Also, Docking Port Alignment and Atmosphere Autopilot (which includes a much more stable PID controller than vanilla KSP's SAS Wobble Machine) in combination results in much less (but still marked) faffing about getting things to line up perfectly. USI Konstruction special docking ports that can auto-rotate, delete themselves, and compress the two docked sections together with a much more robust connection. Fair warning, though, the Konstruction ports need to still be pretty closely aligned to their desired rotation angle (if you dock at 0 degrees, set the compression rotation to 0. If you dock at 90, set the compression rotation to 90 degrees) or Kraken-level RUDs can occur. Quicksave beforehand. Folding bases are still pretty cool, though. Recommend more rigid landing gear, though - the springy massless vanilla landing legs are shining beacons to the Kraken.
