Thank you for making this clear to people who are looking to compare them. I will tell you my story. I have a 2007 ktm 990 superduke, love it. But I wanted a new bike with less expensive repair costs. So for a second bike I got the 2024 ktm 390 duke because I have heard so much good things about all gen 390’s. My 390 rides like my 990, same formula. I have not test ridden the 390 dukes competition but I cannot believe they can match the this riding quality and experience. I have both bikes to go out and ride but the 390 is what I grab the most. In a race or on the track of course the 990 would be the one, but for backroads and twisties the 390 is really fun.
R15 is the only bike Yamaha has nailed well in India, I think they are fit to stay there and not interested in taking on anything higher in India. I don't think Yamaha India has what it takes to compete in India with likes of KTM and now Aprillia.
Totally agree to this POV, even the FZ series has been diluted. It's very sad given how strong their portfolio is in international markets. Yamaha India needs to start locally manufacturing sub-500cc bikes as this segment will boom a lot in the near future.
R15 is getting more expensive by the minute. It is 2.2 lakhs onroad which bikes like karizma offer much better value as well as interms of performance. They're getting greedy and wait till Bajaj update the RS200. R15 outprice these other two bikes by a massive 30k-40k. They're digging their own grave. As for me, I can't wait to get my hands on the beast RS457. Heart says RS457 but mind says Duke 390.
The attention it needs is not from us the enthusiast but from Yamaha and it's engineers as a wake up call that bikes like these will never succeed as it fails to live up to aspiration, and that's the biggest disheartening thing about a bike.
@@ackodrive that's true. Yamaha India's decision this time was more of a stock clearance rather than meeting the consumers' needs while they can do way more.
Great review, I've owned a Duke 390 now for 5 years and not a beginner but an end bike. After trading in my original Metzlers I have run the Michelin piolet power 2ct's and love them, they will not let go in the best of the California twisties.....
We all are Yamaha fans and as Jehan mentioned in the end, we need more competition so better products are launched and the consumer is spoilt for choice.
MT03 needs to be better designed, fork with preload adjustability to say the least, slipper clutch, adjustable levers and TFT dash with optional connectivity. QS could be an add on as most dont know the use and how to use them since most commute and QS works the best when on a freeway or a racetrack. At this price in India and lack of all components, it is a purchase only for someone who likes the design and has the moolah for it.
The 820mm KTM seat is difficult to get. I was able to place an order with the dealer by pushing emails to KTM's internal management. However, they forgot to order the orange panels that go with the taller seat, and now I'm waiting for those.
Where do you guys got seat hight adjuster for duke 390. Even i own one of these beast need that power part ....residing in kerala (Trivandrum)..please let me know. Is it avialable at your palce ??
So you guys got a yt channel too!! Nice, now answer me one question please! If I'm buying a new bike and the showroom owner don't agree to sell the bike without the insurance he's providing in short doesn't allow me to get my own insurance, how do I tackle that??
We at least see the sense in recommending the R3 or say not be too concerned if you were looking to buy one now. Yes, there are compromises but it happens to be a very solid lovely motorcycle that will keep you happy for years. And the lack of a slipper clutch isn't criminal, the gearbox on it is one of the finest. It is just that it is coming in at price where it becomes costlier than an Aprilia RS457 which is offering a far richer riding experience. So yeah, it is sad what the state of the R3 is but the bike remains a beauty.
Could you please provide the part number / part name for the seat heaight adjuster for the 390 Duke , I asked my local service centre they seem to be unaware.
If is about UK, i will go with KTM, i know few places arround London where i had my duke 125 in service(one piston explode) and they change all the engine+othet reuquestes for custom
Wow great job. Very good quality video..... comparison was on point. Both of you did great job in presenting. May be suggest mt03 or r3 for bullet proof engine and Japanese reliability?
Thanks for the praise firstly. More so, paying a lakh and a half more for reliability doesn't exactly make sense, right? Plus when you factor in that the spares will be imported, cost and wait times would be high and only a handful of technicians would be trained to attend to the MT/R3, it just doesn't add up
It doesn't run as hot as the gen 1 or doesn't vibrate as badly as well. But since it is a large capacity high strung single, it is bound to have some vibes and heat
@@ackodrive They have absolutely no idea about it! I called them up after looking at your video and both my dealership from where I bought the bike and the service center have no clue 😪. I stay in Mumbai
390 justify its price..... It is brutal machine in terms of power.....In all aspects KTM is best.....🔥 If yamaha lowers thir price of mt3 (3.5 - 4 lakhs) It will be value for mony.....It is dual cylinder so obviously it will be higher at price....but not that much higher.....🙏🙏🙏
Iam waiting to get my duke but engine niggles and first lot thing stopped me from getting one, do you guys think can should I get it now or should I wait some more time??
Like what? Care to elaborate? Cause while the 390 Duke has a plethora of features, the connectivity technology it's rarely used. So if it is electronic rider aids that you're speaking about, then a 100% yes, that is something a 45bhp motorcycle should have.
Adding to what Arun said, the G 310 R is a bike that is nearly 6 years old without any major update other than the necessary BS6 ones. So in that sense it is quite like the Yamaha, dated, not quite as thrilling and pricey without packing much features.
Idk why people compare a single cylinder made in india bike to a parallel cylinder cbo unit . Obviously there will be a huge price difference for not so much performance difference . You go for the cbo units such as r3 mt03 or ninja 400/500 to be different from the crowd and exclusivity and that premium feel that your bike wont be chaprified .
The performance gains are tremendous when comparing the Duke to the MT. The approach that a manufacturer takes to a segment shouldn't stop you from considering all of the options, right? And in that sense, we had more hopes from Yamaha as we thought it was different from the likes of Kawasaki and Honda who aren't having the best track record with pricing their import bikes.
@@ackodriveThanks that you commented. These woke elitist yamaha kids may understand now that paying higher price for lesser thing is a sign of stupidity not intelligence.
@@droid6759And comparing cbo unit parallel twins to single cylinder made in india bike to satisy your ego that your bike runs faster than the bike which costs 1l more is a sign of what ? Ig thats also a sign of stupidity and childish behaviour . Did i say ktm brand is bad ? Or the lc engine is bad ? I said yamaha r3 wont be chaprified which is on the small portion of people who buys ktm and ruined its reputation and not about the bike itself . You woke ktm duke elitist always thinks that your bike is a superbike when in reality its not . Actually thats the sign of stupidity. And that shows how childish you people are coz no true motorbike enthusiast will put down another bike just to get their own on the top. If stupidity is rewarded then why stop at r3 . Compare duke 390 with zx4r . Coz both of them are of 400cc .
@@droid6759 And what does comparing ur single cylinder bike made india to a parallel twin cbo unit just to satisfy your ego that your bike is better comes under ? Ig it also comes under stupidity . Did i say ktm as a brand is bad ? Or that duke 390 as a bike is bad ? NOPE . No true bike enthusiast will put down another bike just to get theirs on the top which btw is also a sign of stupidity . I never said the duke 390 is stupid . I said the comparison is stupid . People going gee gee gaa gaa over this comparison is stupid that omg my duke 390 beats r3 coz then you missed the point of r3. Cbo units are made as per international standards. They are not just targeted towards indian market like duke 390 is . If thats not the case then why doesnt ktm makes all their engines in india .
@@ackodrive As long as the approach taken by the manufacturer doesn’t stop you from comparing it and as long as stupidity is being rewarded , why not go ahead and compare duke 390 to another 400cc bike which is ig called kawasaki zx4r . If you can compare duke 390 single cylinder made in india to yamaha r3 ll twin cbo unit just because both of them are 300-400cc category then why stop the comparison at parallel twin ? Compare it with zx4r as well coz its also 400cc beginner bike just 4 cylinders . Afterall approach taken by manufacturers should stop you from considering all the options right ????
Good point, but the RS is also fairly made from plastic. And judging by the delays in production and deliveries, getting your hands on one might just be tricky at the moment
@@varun1036 KTM's speedo is more accurate, it can do a genuine 170 kmph. R3/MT03 speedo error is huge. 190 kmph on meter is around 170 kmph actual speed. R3 can do 190 kmph on speedo, mt03 obviously cannot since it's not aerodynamic and is pronto windblast.
