Heck yeah! I'm going to start building these 500EXC's to order with my company SourceADV... I just sold this 2017 in ready to ride condition, check it out: advrider.com/f/threads/2017-ktm-500exc-f-ultralight-adventure-rally-build-23-hours-pending-sale.1445369/#post-40033211 I'm excited to do another on the 2020 platform. Take care!

Great info! Looking at doing the same to my 17' 500. So far I've only re-geared it with a 13 front and 49 rear with nitro mousse tubes front and rear. I love the mousse tubes, but wouldn't be good for your setup doing long road riding. I live in Firestone, CO and just down the road from IMI and do a lot of single track stuff along with desert riding in Moab etc.

Nice man! I would also look into the vortex or get with the map switch. I have one on my 2020 500 XCF-w and it is freaking awesome. It runs so strong
@helialaska
@helialaska 3 года назад
@@SourceADV So you just did the map switch on your 20' or did you also do the vortex? I've heard good things about the vortex ecu, but $760 is a hard pill to swallow.

@@helialaska Vortex ECU with the Vortex Map switch/Traction control switch (not the KTM one) -- It makes it two different bikes, soft enduro mode and very strong mx style power... Its really cool

Hi, thank you for the video. Does it makes the bike easier to stall and does it affect the smoothness from idle in first gear? And do you have to play with tuning or it's good from factory? I'm looking to buy the tuner for my 2019 500.
@SourceADV
@SourceADV 2 года назад
Honestly... I know it's going to sound crazy... But I bought the GET ECU for my 2020 500 XCF-w and it is light years better than the JD tuner. The bike just runs so good everywhere and the two map switches are like two totally different bikes. If you can swing it, that GET ECU from Taco Moto is the way to go. With the JD Tuner, I had a little bit of jerkiness in off-idle response, so I added a bit more fuel to smooth it out. I think I had Green/Blue at 7 and then added more fuel everywhere compared to the standard FMF exhaust and no reeds settings. The bike would sometimes stall with a low speed fast throttle crack. So short answer, no, it's not totally plug and play. The GET ECU with the Taco Moto maps on the other hand has been absolutely perfect (reeds removed, de-smogged, and Pro-Moto end cap). The bike is an absolute beast in the power map and is incredibly chuggy and smooth in the enduro map. I run a 7 OZ Blais Racing clutch weight on that bike too which helps with smoothness, but doesnt effect mid/top end in the power map. Do +2 teeth on the rear sprocket too, it makes 2nd gear much more usable in single track.

@@SourceADV Thank you for your honnest answer. I have a last question: Is the bike less good and less fun with the JD tuner than stock? I don't want to put the money for a GET, so I'm wondering if I'm better to leave the bike stock... I liked the idea of a setup with Fastway end cap with ultra quiet insert, reeds out and jd tuner to get just a little bit more from my bike. I don't need much more power, but I want my bike to run cooler and I want little bit better sound.

@SourceADV 2 года назад
@@alexandre8598 Its still way more fun with the JD Tuner... Im just a nit-picker. LOL You'll still like it a lot, it's just not going to feel like a 450XCF (which is honestly a good thing in some scenarios). I use the enduro map all the time on single track then flip it to power for wide open washes and 2 track, then back to enduro for two track.

Damn that KTM naming convention is still confusing me. The EXC-F is an enduro model I assume ( looking at the PDS shock ), EXC-W is the road legal version in the US , with blinkers etc..., right ? Then there's the SX-F, that's the MX version ? I live in Europe and I've just ordered a 450 EXC Sixdays ( enduro is called EXC here, SX-F is called SX here, so I assume we have the same kind of bike ). The question : if you put on a FMF slip-on only, do feel a difference already, have you tried that, without additional map change or airfilter change ? I love your plastics/ colors more than the Sixdays version I bought ! ( the package here on the Sixdays is actualy more cheap compared to the non-sixdays version with buying the additional parts separately )

In the US EXC-f is the street legal version of the XC-W's, but we also have the XC-f which is for GNCC style racing and desert. The EXC-f comes with blinkers, horn, etc. and has different (locked) ECU and a bunch of emissions stuff, the XC-f is a closed course racing bike, the XC-W is a semi regulated/slightly de-tuned trail focused bike and has slightly richer fueling but still has a locked ECU. I get that sense that outside of the US the EXC is equal to our XC-w. Here in the US if you put just the slip on onto the already lean EXC (for emissions reasons), you will notice the bike running very lean, lots of surging on acceleration and popping on decel and it smells hot. It can't be healthy for the bike long term. I rode it around for 5 min just to hear the pipe and you do notice more power, but it feels like unhealthy power. That's why the JD tuner is needed here, to get more fuel to the bike. Now, in your case, you might have a different ECU (not 100% on this) that can be flashed to add more fuel... but don't quote me on that. Sorry man, you're going to have to chat with a tuner that understands which ECU you are working with. Thanks for the thumbs up on the color scheme! I love the look of this bike! It has a Nomad Rally fairing on it now and looks like this: sourceadv.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/093E7347-99F8-4C18-9EF7-E47094193A6B.jpg Take care man! Enjoy the ride!

@@SourceADV Thanks for your reply. I will ask the dealer, I know for my Superduke with full akra system, there's a KTM mapping for it. I see the FMF system is also listed as a Powerpart, so I'm hoping they have a special flash for it as well. I'm trading in my 1190 Adventure R for a real offroad KTM now. I' m really excited. Sad in a way to say goodbye to the 1190r, but after my chain snapped last year on the highway and destroyed the backend and the crank case and clutch pump, a repair that took the dealer 8 months and a little less than 5K to repair, I'm kind of glad to move to an Enduro bike :)

Im looking into doing this on my 350 exc-f, do I need to also do an emissions delete kit?
@SourceADV
@SourceADV 3 года назад
I don't believe you NEED to do an emissions delete, but the stories out there say the bike will run better if you do, but I'll admit Im not a full expert on that topic. Blais Racing has whole kits similar to these upgrades for the EXC's and you can ask him questions, hes an engine builder, so Im sure you can get great answers over there. Take care!
