i have the 790 adventure here in the netherland you have to pay a 9% (bpm) tax on the bike and then 21% sales tax over the total amount. and yes i had problems with te feul gauge. and no oil leak's yet i hope. for the rest it's a great bike
Of course not. Less wind protection than T7, 5K€ more than T7 and marginally heavier. It has 20Hp more, probably better suspension, but not worth 5K€. I don't care about electronics so it's irrelevant.
I will wait until 2021 or so before I get one Besides I will have my 2019 690 Enduro R paid off by then then. I usual go by the rule of Never ever buy a first or second or sometimes third year production model EVER. . I'm used to waiting hell I kept my 2001 640 enduro from 2001 to last year I can wait a few until the 790 Adventure R has all the bugs worked out. This bike has had my attention for a long time. With the type of riding we have here in canada I think it will be awesome. Longer range than the 690 but hevier, but not as heavy as the 1090 and more agile than the 1090. ti will be an absolute Weapon for some of the old mining loging roads and trails out here
I have the 790 Adventure R from Germany , no Problems with oil leak and no Problems with the fuel gauge .no Problems with the navi my ride nice bike to ride Offroad and on Road 👍
Think of oil leaks as a way of keeping steady doses of fresh oil infusion....all part of the plan....plus some of that oil will cost lower surfaces providing additional lubrication and rust prevention....all part of the plan
I had a ktm in the past, fun bike and despite never having any issues with mine I have seen a lot ofy friends suffering with theirs that is why I ride Kawasaki now and I'm convinced there is nothing better than having the reliability a Japanese bike can offer.
UK bike 1 week old. Love the Bike even with its problems..ie). Fuel gauge not registering - brake light jammed on constantly, dealer said it will be a relay sensor under tank, jammed in second gear couldn’t select 3rd... eventually cleared.... Bikes done 230miles Still love it, love is blind🙈😘
You sound like a hooked married man. It's bad for you, destroying you, taking all your money and time, you're aware of it, but can't wake up and act. Now matter how good the sex is, once a month or less is not acceptable.
I don't find it surprising. It's always something with the new KTMs. 790 Adventure R will be my third bike from them and I anticipate small problems for the first 1000-2000km and then it usually settles. It was the same with my previous Duke 990 (ignition switch, spark cable, fueling issues) and Super Duke 1290 GT (break pump cylinder, mushy clutch, locks in the panniers getting stuck, tire pressure sensor breaking, LCD screen getting dead pixels) I got all of that fixed in 2-3 weeks after reporting. For me the key is to have a friendly relation with the dealer, call it in, get if fix and don't bitch about it to much. These days stuff is getting produced faster and faster, the pressure from marketing and finance departments, shareholders etc is increasing in every company around the world. We just had planes falling from the sky and killing people because of lousy software design and lack of alert lights in cockpit that were "an option payed extra" FFS. Late stage capitalism at it's best :) I still like this bike though but would I take around the world? - NO. It's a performance/fun bike that it's great for 1-2 weeks of riding near "civilization" and/or support car, not a RTW adventure bike.
Those 747 crashes may be related to the Clintons.. they have the software to take control remotely the crash in Africa was full of Diplomats.. The Crash from Malaysia was full of Engineers from a Company with a New Patent .. after all of their deaths the Rothschilds took over the Company .. @RexDexPl
Want a bullet proof (after a few cheap preventative fixes) middle weight ADV bike? Buy a DR650, spend a bit of cash on the suspension, header and pipe upgrade, carb rejet along with the usual adventure bike mods and you've got yourself a T-34 tank
A tank that absolutely blows for any time on the highway or interstate. Making a dual sport have more cargo capacity doesn't make it an adventure bike.
@@X85283 are they really that bad? i ride my underpowered, heavy as fuck, Himalayan on highways. sure it ain't great fun but it gets there..at 120kmph. the dr650 weighs 80 lbs less and has nearly twice the power.
Issue is "Normal" if its a "branded" bike. But if it was a chinese bike, its "junk" even if it is well made. This shows how branding and perception differs on people. Remove the brand name and all, then judge the bike for what it is and the price your paying. For a premium bike, this should not happen. Oil leak? Clogged fuel filter? Again it should not be there in just a few mileage of use.
its a KTM dude, it's like buying a triumph and being surprised at the bad reliability. theres a reason why there are tons of complaints about both online.
I have owned 3 KTM adventures from new, but the quality control has dropped badly, if the 790 leaks oil and this is a problem carried over from the 790 Duke, what does that tell you about their desire to sell bike over quality control. Unacceptable to have an o ring leak oil on a new adventure bike. How fragile is the engine to do this? I wouldnt want to cross a desert on such an engine. As for the fuel tank!!!! the interior coating blocking the fuel filter??? What, clown allowed this material to be used in the tank? And the final straw, I accompanied a friend to pick up his brand new KTM 250, It wouldnt start, turned over well but wouldnt fire up... It worked in the showroom 30 minutes ago.... Back to KTM, they couldnt resolve it!! Bike back to factory and he had to wait for a replacement. Have NEVER had a vehicle unable to start from new,,,,, you have been warned folks.
I got 790 s model last year and I must say that I've faced the most of the subject issues.. BUT.. I never regret it and I'm still excited as the first day with it.
Well I've had two 990 Adventures and two 1190 Rs. All from new. My first 990 did 56,000 mies in 18 months with no issues at all. Not one single problem with the others. I also have a 690 Enduro R with all the Rally Raid bits on it. This had to have a new clutch after I severely abused it in the Icelandic rivers. I now have the 790 Adventure. Coolant leak from the the thermostat hose and I just tightened it up. The other issue is misting of the TFT display which is common. A new display is due out in March. This doesn't detract from the bike one iota - love it.
Ill just stick with my 990 Rally for now and see how this pans out over the next 12 months. Theres one thing that cant be denied by owners and that is smiles per mile count for everything and even with its shortfalls, KTM has always delivered the most smiles. Ive never had one breakdown on me and have always got me home (but lets leave the 690 out for now :-) )
@@Angry-Lynx lol. but do you need a ton of power for smiles? i get my 200kg, 20HP himalayan sideways in the dirt on every corner, once you're leaned you don't need much power for slideways action. hell i could power slide it on tarmac but my skills just aren't there.
I love the idea of the 790 Adventure but I doubt I will ever own one. I respect KTM as a brand but it seems their polish hasn't kept up with their growth... Issues from the factory seem pretty common with KTM. I am certain they will smooth out the wrinkles and continue their march to the top of the charts.
I own a 790 Adventure (standard model), now with circa 1500 kms, and it has the fuel gauge issue, as yet unresolved. The bike rides every day, though. All I have to do is fill it up as soon as its tank reaches about a third of its capacity (20 liters). Waiting for the software update that will solve this issue. Other than that it is a phenomenal bike.
Hmmm. Vehicle manufacturers using the customer as their quality control department. What a novel idea. I wonder if we should be paid for our wasted time and effort. What do think Dave? Another great video. Thanks mate.
Do you know the difference from British bikes and Honda's ? When you bought a Honda it was ready to ride with no problems.. @Peter Francis Honda's quality and customer service in the USA MR Honda made sure the dealers were doing their part.. It was the death of British bikes even though they were a Superior bike at the time.. Small Dealers had untrained high school kids putting them together after school . Now if you were a skilled mechanic and could buy a British bike "In The Crate" it would be a good deal for you
I have the new 790 KTM adventure since 2 weeks , A VERY GOOD BIKE IT IS ! But i've the problem : FUEL GAUGE KAPUT since the first 2 kms ! 4,7 l/km ~ 5,2 l/lm with a 20 l tank : each 350 kms by security gasoline station . I'm waiting for a new gauge . Except that , a super bike even an off road , everything perfect ! i'm in love !
More than 80,000 km on my 1290SA. I replaced the dipper switch for high beam and topped up the clutch fluid once. That’s it. No oil leaks. No fuel gauge or pump/filter problems. Still running the original chain and sprocket as the electronic pro-oiler is fantastic. I’d buy a 790 Adventure R if my local dealer hadn’t already sold their entire two allocations.
Interesting video my friend. Coupled with some reports of bad dealership service in the past in the US, including warranty denials, this is worthy of popcorn as we watch how it unfolds. I agree it's probably just the usual 1st-year hiccups and no huge deal.
Today I had the opportunity to ride the 790 Adventure and the R Version may be my next bike in two or three years. This time I'll wait for a revised model where all problems in the manufacturing process are solved. I was an early adopter of the 1190 ADV and it also had its flaws. Even in 2019 it is risky to buy a new product. My test-bike today had the fuel gauge problem. It showed an empty fuel tank but it wasn't. The test-ride itself was great, I had a lot of fun and it seems that the fuel consumption of this bike is excellent.
My 690 Duke is my third bike and the first bike i bought brand new, and also the bike I have had the most reliability problems with. Shitty clutch slave cylinder left me stranded on a ride, and now I’m dealing with a warped front brake rotor. Here’s the thing though: despite being the least reliable of of my bikes it is by far the most fun to ride and the one I have gotten the most joy out of owning. If you ride for strictly for pleasure as opposed to necessity, owning a KTM is worth it
Purchased a 790 Adventure last June, so far all is well, first service completed. TFT screen went blank for about 30 km’s and then back on, no issues since then, will be buying an extended aftermarket warranty though.... Otherwise the bike is great, performs well and is most enjoyable to ride.
Suprise suprise .. a KTM with issues .. noooo that cant be right .. I wont be getting another KTM to endure any more silly unnecessary issues .. you would think I would have learned after the first KTM experience .. 4 KTM's later all having redicules issues .. I'm never going back to the orange brand ever again .. and how ugly is that 790 .. YUK
The neighbour took delivery of the new KTM 790 he has had all of the problems you speak of, his lawyer is getting his money back. I have been able to give him much hysterical laughter as I rode my CVO Street Glide 23,000 Km this summer, zero issues 50 miles gallon, comfort. Building the KTM in China is a good idea, the Chinese are able to enjoy slave labor from North Korea, a less than starvation wage is sent to KIm. The employer only has to supply the amount of food to keep these folks alive. A good deal all around. The bike will cost 60% less to build. There is a lot of historical info. regarding the absolute minimum calories to avoid death . Everybody is a winner.
I've owned 33 KTM motorcycles over the years. Never had any mechanical issues. I'm on the list to purchase the 1st 790 R that my dealer receives. Can't Wait!
the guy with the oil leak has a hole in the engine case!!!!! its not a oil leak, the oil leaks reported are from 2 bikes where the gasket needed to be replaced,as for the fuel gage there is a software update that fixes it
@@alonad1 leak is from above...i couldn't take picture with phone because it , s not enough space to puth phone between gas tank and engine.....it looks like it s gasket...it was common problem for duke 790.....we will see in monday or tuesday....i will report wat was the problem.....and how was fixed.... .....
It's not like Yamaha has had any problems is it? broken gearboxs anyone? At least with Yamaha you'll get terrible ergo's, uncomfortable after 20 minutes & Fugly looks.
@@MrKdr500 The CP2 engine is a proven workhorse. I don't know why you're bringing up your own past experiences with Yamaha. It's a proven fact that the Big 4 Japanese manufacturers have WAY less recalls and mechanical failures than any of the European manufacturers. Look up the statistics. Anyone with any motorcycle experience knows this.
IRLtrolls I don’t follow their motorcycles but the Japanese side by sides are plagued with recalls. Google Pioneer 1000 issues and it is astonishing. Just because something was great back in the day means nothing at present. Even the Chinese cars such as Acura and Honda are having the largest recalls in history, just sayin?
"Look at the brand statistics" "Everybody knows" Report back when specific information relative to the 790 is available. Manufacturers don't give a flying rip about "Everybody knows" and "look at the brand statistics" when it comes to empirical data and large-quantity test samples. They don't read forums for information either. They actually have millions of dollars on the line; internet commenters can spread loads of useless generalizations without it costing them a dime.
The price difference between the US market and the European market is based on how the pricing is to made. In the US the prices are without taxes (I believe) and in Europe they are with all taxes included.
Soon they will start assembling it in India and then.... the same issues with all the KTM lineup which is manufactured here have oil leaks, coolant mixing in oil etc.
I have a 1290 Super Duke R built in Austria. I love the bike, but.. it seeps a little oil, the oil temperature sensor failed, for no apparent the plastic lens on the instruments has started to craze(cheap plastic), speaking of plastic...none of it really fits well, the front brakes have been recalled, the filtration function of the airbox is essentially useless as the flange between the upper and lower halves have gaps between the screws, the speedometer reads 10% high, I just discovered fretting on the rear wheel axle at the drive(left)side bearings with only 11,000 miles on the clock, when I accomplished the first valve clearance check all valves were out of spec, the price of parts($60) for spark plugs is outrageous... I could go on. KTMs are fabulous machines to ride but I think they take the ready to race motto a bit too far. Race bikes get major maintenance after every race, road bikes should go a while before anything is required. That being said, I still think I am going to look for a used 790 Adventure for a trip to Alaska. With the new 890 coming out I guess many riders will be rushing to trade their 790s in.
Very interested in purchasing one, but of course KTM messes that up as usual. Dealers in the US keep pushing back the date, because KTM doesn’t keep them informed. Then each dealer gets a very small amount of bikes, and claims they cannot order more for a long time. Now reports of all these little issues. I love my European bikes, but more and more hoops each year to purchase and live with them. Might start looking for a garage full of Japanese bikes again when it comes to new stuff.
to be fair that's exactly what the Tenere is going through right now. Each dealer got a couple and no more for the rest of the season. It was a new bike, and lots of people bought it so they ran out of stock. shit happens, lol.
We purchased 2. Both had ABS issues that apparently the factory over pressurized the system causing the brake light to stay on. Blead the brakes fixed 1. The other 1 needed a new ABS sensor.
What about my strategy of buying a demo bike from a dealer? It spent 6 months there so presumably will have had its youth issues, and then they sell it cutting the price by almost 25%.
@@henryhiggins2021 they did though. 2 years ago they were like 50kms. now there are some near to 200km and I haven't checked in a few months so i'm sure they've gotten better.
I have 1190 w/ 78,000 miles, thank goodness there were never any oil leaks. The 790 is tempting, tho I wish they designed more as a 950/990 replacement. The fuel pump filter is a common problem but it only happen to me once. I was still able to make the 600 mile trip back home. I fixed mine with Guglatech filter for both the pump and in filler neck. Pricey, but one less worry.
I have the Duke 790 - by the time they got to Australia the bugs and drips have been ironed out - + KTM keep updating maps so are providing excellent service to keep this awesome bike in play.
Aiken hey mate, I’m in Melbourne, I tossing up between a 790 duke and a street triple rs. You had any issues with your 790 duke? I have heard of a fair few problems
530, 350 and 250 freerides, 690, 990, 1190 all had issues in their first year....I would like to try a 790 but wouldn't buy one in the 1st year....or 2nd since I've herd about the Chinese factory.
4 issues with my KTM adventure s .. HARD none adjustable rear shock.. (major problem for me) ... software made the bike chock to a stop... fixed at dealer.. fuel gage was not working.. fixed at dealer... rear brake abs not working properly.. skids sometimes when stopping... must take to dealer.. miss my trade in..
I got two 790 adventures, with 20k and 22k miles. No issues except on one of them the dash goes black about every 1500-2000 miles. I need to turn off the bike to get it to come back to life.
man you gotta checkout the price on ktm chinese website why? there isn't one, the duke 790 is priced at 128k cny which is 18k in usd. im planning to get the 790 but should i wait for the chinese version? should be a lot cheaper
Japan and China are holding hands in the manufacturing industry hence the QC issues. The only American manufacturer that had more recalls was Ford but Toyota alone has more than the other big three. Acura is climbing rapidly and now so it the Honda CRV. Good old days are long gone my friend.
Thanks for the info. This type of Marketing , is destroying everything!...… But wait, i ve got an idea! If Brands produce all in China it s OK, clients just have to pay their motorbikes at chinese prices too!!!!!!! hahahahahahahahah Bye
Thanks for the updates.. If my $10 Chinese coffee maker breaks, I can throw it away and buy a new one.. Yamaha has been talking about a 700 CC adventure bike for two years now .. maybe in 2020 ? People in Europe keep voting for more Socialism so taxes keep going up .. Gas here in USA last December was $1.80 for 3.8 Liters..
Yeap. Over 1.50€ a liter here too. US, they get 4x as much fuel for the same money, and yet they feel the need to moan about it. T7 was announced 4 years ago, not 2. We are supposedly 4 months away from having it. KTM was announced last year. I sat on one already, which I can buy. Never seen a T7.
I learned long ago not to be an early adopter of any vehicle. The 790 and Yamaha’s Tenere are no exception. That said, Yamaha is one of the very few companies that thoroughly vet ATV’s, Motorcycles and snowmobiles before releasing them to the market. Most companies (Polaris!) push their products out and let the buyers sort them out.
By 2021 you will rather wait for new 2022 Honda mini africa twin 600cc which will weigh 400llbs all gassed up at 70hp...or same basic thing from Kawasaki and Suzuki (will be based on identical platform for these two companies) making T7 and 790R both obsolete already
Your info is off. In Belgium it's 13 500eur for the adv R. There is no one price for Europe, because of different vat across different countries. Still happy I bought one it's a great bike, and no oil leak after 2000km 😊
@@CyberTower what's your opinion on the brand/ experience with it ? I test drove one but 45min isn't enough to sink it all in. Even though it's made in China, it felt sturdy. I'm asking because I'm looking for a daily bike ( +- 15.000km a year)
@@ramirojorge2887 I'm also using it for commuting (25k a year). It drives really light, good for dodging traffic. It certainly doesn't lack power, wind protection is adequate (I'm 1m77 and no turbulence, earplugs are a must). All in all verry happy with it 😎
Roni92pl I smile when I can ride my MT07 anytime anywhere and not worry about anything but very basic maintenance, and I can even be slack on that without destroying the bike. Nothing to smile about when you can’t ride whenever you want to and you have to argue with dealers over warranty claims and wait for parts to come in. Smiles my ass.
lol, my fuckin 200kg 20hp pig himalayan gives me smiles. if you're offroad you barely need power for smiles, just lean and a bit of a flick of the wrist.
Can you please make same video about bmw k1600 gtl. I have new engine after first service as it leak. I have vibration from front between 40-51 miles per hour and it’s not wheel as new tyre twice put on. Balance too. And the biggest issue bike pull to left when you take hands off and not only my one.
Well pricewise is the ktm not the cheapest, there is still the Yamaha with their T700 wich costs way less and seams to run as reliable as all Japanese bikes.
This 790 is ridiculously expensive. Furthermore, more expensive in Europe where it is assembled, than in the US where it his transported, is another marketing stupidity. I would not buy this 790 even at 9k€. Yamaha T700 will sell so much at 9k€ that Ktm will have to review its sales strategy. About oil leaks and fuel filter clogging, it proves poor engineering or poor assembly quality. I used to ride a 990 adv and a 450EXCF without a problem. So what's happening at KTM nowadays ?
That's what I will be doing in a few months after selling my current bike. I was thinking 990 vs 950 and think the 950 is for me since I don't mind carbs and it's significantly cheaper then a similar 990

That dutch rider Noraly (Itchy boots) has ridden 31000 kms on her RE Himalayan from India, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Central Asia, Iran, Baltic states. Only issue so far is a worn sprocket and a front tire puncture. The bloody thing has only 27 HP and it carries her two metal side panniers, metal top box, 35L tail bag, tank bag and two 5L fuel jerkin (front)! And it cost EU 2,400 in India. Oooo KTM is European and bashing it is blasphemy.
Been watching her progress. Honestly, it's like comparing a steam powered tractor chugging along for months on end, to a thoroughbred race horse. They are different animals built for different purposes.
As I know all "small "engines bikes (790 + 390) are yet totally produced by CFmoto in China. They are evaluating to move there the production of big v-twin engines (not the entire bike) also in the next year.
@@aditya9600 You're right, I apologize. Anyway, the point is another (if you can catch it): the models with the higher revenues for KTM are no more built in Austria. 99% of customers are not aware of this. They buy a label on the tank, at high price.
Overhyped! It will be the bike KTM lovers want but doesn’t break any new ground. Think about it.......are you really going to ride this bike anywhere harder then what you already take your current 1090, AT, 1200GS/A......nope! It maybe 40-100lbs lighter but it’s still a big pig. KTM built their version of a KLR and is marketing this facade that an even niche group of riders will be hard pressed to make other then talking points at a local Starbucks.
i mean, me and my buddy take the KLR and himalayan out on tight singletrack trails. if we can do that with those machines i doubt the 790r would have any issues.
In other words the 790 is the perfect mid size ADV bike. The leaks you mentioned are easy fix’s you could address in minutes. Fuel filters....if you’re to lame to fix it have the dealer do it. Having said all that, I’ll pass. I don’t want a Chinese bike.

Your price info is misleading. The sales price in Europe differs from country to country because of different taxation, and the price shown always include taxes (vat and eco-tax). So the mentioned 15.200 EUR is for Austria, in Germany the R model is 13.400 EUR. I suppose the US price does not include vat or other taxes, so it's indeed less expensive in Europe. Bit difficult to compare prices though.
