@@MrBurns-jc3kxim also stuck between 200 and 390 and i would say go for 390 it will suit you better for longer rides and for highway riding. If it was more for commuting thru the city 125 or 200 is best. My vote goes to 390 and i will most likely get 390 since its more powerful
Just brought ine if these as my first bike so thank you for the heads up about rhe clutch and the rear brake quirk. Will know what to look out for in the future
Hello Sir, May i ask if you have encounter a minor or major issues using KTM 200? and what resource you made, there are lot of vlogger who use duke 200 but i didn't hear any of them what are some issues that they encountered they only focus in speed. Thanks and ride safe Sir.
I just bought one this past weekend and already put around 100 miles on it. Fun bike. I’m 6 foot 2 and 210lbs and I fit just fine. If you’re thinking about buying one, do it.
I’m here in Montreal, I’m looking at both the 200cc and 390cc tomorrow, both are in the $4,500 range. As my first bike, do you think I should go straight to the 390?
Nice video Thank you! I'm looking at this vs the 390... currently thinking used in Cali - anything you recommend to look out for in used bikes or KTMs / the models I listed ? Weight and cost are keeping me closer to the 200 - the speed to pass, quality and best 1st bike are my worry for this 200.. appreciate any time for your thoughts - Take Care & Thanks!
I’m riding a Suzuki VanVan200 right now. It’s fine but the Duke200 is more exciting. Yamaha R3s are great. Kawasaki Z400 would be ideal if you can find it for a reasonable price. If you end up with the Duke 200, you won’t go wrong.
The Honda XR150L is coming to North America, and I was thinking that it would make a good 1st bike for me. Any thoughts? The KTM Duke 200 is basically the same price as one more gear, fuel injection, and a lot more tech. I'm wondering if the Honda would still be more reliable, even though it's a little slower and smaller? As an instructor, you've got a perfect excuse to go and test drive and buy one today! I really enjoyed this review. Thank you. Happy trails. IEdward in Irvine California
I’ve got one on order so I will be doing a review when I get it. From what I’ve read, the Xr150 will be more trail, slower roads where KTM Duke 200 is good enough for highway too. You can’t beat Honda reliability but KTM makes a great product too. If you can ride both go for the one that gets you excited more. If you get the XR let me know!
In Chile i had 2 Ns200 bikes (the old one and the fi version) and have same details as duke 200... now living in new jersey i'm so glad to find this bike... of courae i could think hey dude you can afford a 600cc bike... but for what? If here you juat drive at 25mph in cities... and thia bike its perfect for going to work to home and to have few rides in weekend. And the price i love it.
Not gonna lie, I'm regretting not waiting for the Duke 200 to come in stock near me. I ended up getting a Z125 Pro and all I can do with it is ride it to work and back a few blocks away, because to go anywhere else where I live, I'd have to get on the interstate. I'm only 140lbs and my Z125 struggles to hit just 55mph on flat ground.
Ride the highway on windy days when the wind is at your back! Try to find a Duke 200 you can trade for at a dealer. A bit of extra cash but it’ll open up where you can ride comfortably a lot more.
ive done 18000km on mine and its still just as fun as when i first got it i thought i would be bored of it but its it own bike in a way mine still gets upto 142ish on a calm day
I sorta wish I got this instead of my 2019 Honda Grom. But hind sight is 20/20 as they say. I haven't been riding in a couple of years now so I need to redo learners/MST again. :O
Picked the 200 up for my wife. Got the 390 for myself. Only complaint so far is that the clock does not keep time well, at all. Haven't found anything online indicating this is a common issue. The 200 needs a lot of throttle to get moving compared to other bikes. Nice weight. Easy to handle. Very responsive. I agree - the tires are awesome. I think it is the perfect beginner bike for my wife, who is 5' 4".
Ha! I got one for Wifey too, she has it as a commuter/backup bike and she loves it. Top little reliable bike ideal for a mini human. If I owned it I'd need a stiffer rear spring as it bottoms out but other than that, for the price, you cannot beat the little thing.
Can second this. I own a duke 200 and the clock doesn't keep time. I can set the time, and next time I start it up the clock shows the wrong time. Did you figure out the issue?? 😅
Bro im in great confusion to get this or 250duke, i hav test ridden both i felt 200 was more punchy than 250 y is that? 250 has 5hp more nd 5nm more than 200duke, the 250 gets its power lately while 200 is giving instant takeoff, i even got choice of Rc200 2022model which get everything features wise when compared to these both.
Fair… But 1 mm from a clutch fully engaged to stall is too sensitive. I thought the Honda Grom had the worst clutch. The new champion is the KTM duke 200.
@@leeridefar i dont know why, but i use Duke 200 to go to work everyday without any problem. Not a single stall. I love my Duke so much. I can do a lot of fun things with it on the road to work
@@leeridefar true I took my safety course and stalled a million times really effected my self esteem. Got a 900c street twin and like night and day don't ever stall it. This bike to sensitive
After I got my motorcycle license, I had that stalling issue on a Grom. Being a new rider, that really shock my confidence and I quickly got rid of that bike. Several years have passed and I just got the new Honda XR150L. I'm glad to say that issue doesn't exist and I'm a very happy camper.
Awesome to hear. Yeah the groms stall quick too. That’s why I have eight z125s now. Much friendlier clutch. I have two XR150Ls on order for the new year. Can’t wait to ride them, review them and get them out on the training lot. Ride safe and enjoy your XR
@Lee RideFar yes I'm aware of the brand but I see 2 listed for the duke 200 not sure which one , I see 9001112 and 9003112 , I have same model/year as you
Looking to get into bikes so will be a new rider, biggish guy at 179cm 90kg (5,11 198pounds for you Americans). Question is would a 200 be to small for someone like me? And how do they compare to the Yamaha Mt 03 and 07 range? Thanks in advanced. (also note I live in the hills so not much highway riding would be done)
Toby. If you can find a good deal on the KTM 200 go for it. If you can afford to spend more on MT 03 do that. The MT 07 would be great too. As long as you’re not doing sustained long highway riding the KTM 200 will be great for you. I am 100 kg and 190 cm tall and I was quite comfortable riding the KTM 200 around.
@@leeridefar the KTM is alot cheaper in Australia $4500 brand new with all the warrentys etc compared to a used Mt 03 which is $6000 and new Mt 07 at $11500.
Yes. $3800 is solid. If you keep it in great condition you won’t lose much on the sale. The best bike to sell is the new rider friendly Bike. Biggest market to sell too.
If you do it right the Duke 200 very much will walk itself with the clutch out. It will stall every time you do it from a stop but if you walk a little while letting the clutch out at the same time she'll walk on her own. Especially down hill once you get it going it will keep going. And the bike has ample power to walk itself clutch out because I have done it and I'm 6'1 and weight around 230ish.
I took the msf on a duke 200. First time on a motorcycle and had zero issues with stalling. I look forward to trying something else if that's really the case with ktm... again I have zero experience other than the msf course.
@@JPARKERZ28 I was wrong on my size in the original comment I was 260 pounds when I was on the Duke. She hated my weight since I weighed almost as much as she did. But I made do, KTMs aren't always the most reliable so I'd keep your ear out and head to the earth kind of deal when it comes to KTM shopping. They are fast as hell tho and fun but definitely on the sketchier side on whether or not they'll leak.
Bruh 26 horsepower is very impressive considering the 2020 model Honda grom 9.8 HP.....and honestly yeah i bought the grom before the ktm 200 duke was released...and dam i wouldn't mind getting that for about 700$ more.....but yet it won't fit in the shed am using for winter 😂
@@leeridefar , i have 0 experience for building a shed😂 and beside in Canada am gonna pay 3k$ for my frist year of insurance for the honda grom, since am under 25 So am putting my money on that
Forget about KTM's crap. The head gasket will be blown in 6 months(few thousands km normal ride). If you live in somewhere with bad local KTM brand who do not keep parts, you can wait for months until the part arrive. This won't happen on any other entry level bikes .
The 390 is not any bigger than the 200.. the engine has bigger displacement and the headlight and instrument panel is different but the chassis and everything else is identical.. for a 6foot tall dude though, that could be small..
Im 5'4 can this bike be lowered if yes by how much please im buying my first bike and i wanna be able to flat foot it until i gain enough confidence (i have a very low inseam 😊)
Not sure. But start with making the seat thinner and get motorcycle boots with thicker soles. That should be enough. If not contact a KTM dealer or check a KTM Duke 200/390 forum for other people who have lowered theirs.
Depends on how long your legs are. If your in seam is 26in or 66cm you will be on your toes. However, motorcycle boots with a thicker sole will help a lot. It is a better bike for shorter riders. So is the Yamaha MT 03
I'm 5'4 and just picked up the 2022 model. My beta dirt bike sits at 35 inches so the duke feels really short to me. Loads of fun if you know how to feather the clutch and rip around town.
Its a fun bike for sure, but I would say start with a Duke 390 or a Ninja 400 and move up from there. I'm finding that I am going to need to go to an MT-07 or an SV650 after this. Definitely a very rev happy bike that is actually quite fun to push sometimes. Not enough power for driving around Houston though. lol
I just bought this bike and im so glad I did it, bike es light and even with that im still struggling to handle the bike at low speeds or in traffic, for a rider with no experience at all its an awesome bike i fucking love it🤩
@@daniacosta3806 Its a great bike to practice on and learn if you are new rider. I recently upgraded mine and got the MT-07. But the KTM 200 was a lot of fun to drive for sure.
@@mustangpilot6786 I’m not even thinking about an upgrade, just to let you know, haven’t even reached 60mph🤣 I want to enjoy every ride and always being safe
I could be wrong about this Stats, as I only looked up two sources. You said the Duke 200 weights 275lbs, correct.? I see it listed at 140kgs which is 308lbs, right.? The 2020 Duke 390 is listed at 149kgs, which is 328lbs. Do you think this is a significant difference.? I say it's not.! Next, I looked-up the seat height to be 823mm, which equals 32.4" (did you said it was 31", I need to re-watch this video) Did you know the 2020 Duke 390 is 830mm, or 32.6" again I don't feel 7mm difference is that significant. The Duke 200, has 19 kW or 25 HP, while the 390 has 32 kW aka 43.4 HP. The Duke 200 has the old 390 gauges (not the new fancy colour TFT display) The old 390 headlight, (with no heat-sink) so for me, the Duke 200 is NOT WORTH it. Give it 3-years, when we will start to see some used, perhaps then it can be an option as the Used Price should be far less then the Used Price of a 390 Duke (which is only 373cc, I know) I wanted the Duke 200 to be similar to the Grom in weight (225lbs) and seat height of 29.9".
Weight difference is no significant. However every pound counts the lower the weight. Seat height is 31.9in. The point nine did not come through in the audio enough. Is a stand sporty bike height. Only the Z400 is lower at 30.9in which isn’t much but again every bit counts. The TFT display is nice but if you’re a newer rider. Stop looking down :) Given the popularity of the Duke 390 and the Duke 200 being unknown. There are deals there. Better value for the Duke 200 Currently. Both the Duke 200 and the Duke 390 are not bikes riders will ride for a long period of time. They’ll ride it and move on. Good points to bring up Angel!
Anyway you could do a Duke 200 vs 390 video Lee.? I have owned a; Grom, CBR 125, VanVan 200, Konker KSM 200, DR 200 as well as every 300cc Class Sport Bike and also KTM RC 390. Based on this, I think I have a pretty good idea what a 200cc Sport Bike should be. The Duke 200 is a FAIL bcz the seat height is a bit too high and the weight is bit too much and the Price is much too expensive (but should be reasonable in about 3-years as a used Bike)
You must keep the revs much higher than every other bike to avoid the stall. KTM runs a very lean fuel map. As a beginner bike this will be frustrating for the rider. They will get used to it.
I don't think the clutch is excessively sensitive. It's not difficult to find the bite point, without stalling the engine, even when its idling. It may be more sensitive than some bigger bikes with more flywheel mass, but its no worse than other small bikes I've ridden.
@@leeridefar Do you find the engine braking very strong on this bike ? Comparing it with 2-strokes I've ridden in the past, the engine braking seems to be really strong, especially if the throttle is completely closed.
I've this bike and yes you do have to rev it a little more than most other bikes but nowhere near what he did,he either just can't operate a clutch and throttle very good or he's just over exaggerating. Lol
After using on a training lot for new riders for a year. It’s the bike that stalls the easiest. If you own it, it’s no problem as you get used to it. The engine runs lean so that makes it a little more challenging too. I still love the bike
This bike is good but let me review: Sound is not good seat is not comfortable limited extra sporty color no features engine gets hot in traffic I am telling you far better option:(1) CB hness 350 Honda , This is best best, but it's classic, if need a sport bike than duke 200 is fine
Lee, I feel it's currently NOT WORTH IT, and a let down model, here in Canada. One of the biggest factors for me is the Price vs Value and this scores very low for me. I'll never buy a brand new bike, as they deprecate so quickly the day they leave the dealership, so I don't know the MSRP's of any motorcycles. Did you say they are $4000 brand new with 0 kms out the door.? Did you say you paid $3000 for yours? How many kms did your have when you bought it.? I dont see ANY USED at all, here in Alberta. Let's compare it to the Duke 390; I can buy a 2015 Duke 390 for less, however the Duke 200 was only available in Canada in 2020 I believe, so to be fair, lets compare it to a 2020 Duke 390...
this guy supposedly trains new riders but can not even operate a clutch properly? What a squid? just rode one of these bikes and didn't notice any difference between it and over a hundred of other bikes I have ridden. Clutch action is actually quite nice as it typical of KTMs
Lawerence I have 50 bikes and this one stalls the easiest. When training new riders having the bikes with the easiest clutches helps a lot. The KTM was fine for more experienced riders but harder for newer riders. I want to make the experience of learning to ride, the easiest it can be.
Been debating on this and a grom. The grom around me sells for like $800-$1000 cheaper. Is the duke worth the extra almost $1000? The fastest/busiest road I ride is an old highway with speeds of 35-55 throughout, but wouldn't mind something that could hit the highway for just a few exits nothing crazy.
