Excellent follow-up on the Kubota. I would have to see a formal quote for both machines. It's hard to believe there would be a 10k difference when equipped the same way. There was no mention of ballast in the Kubota tires whether standard or optional. The 2 speed shift on the fly is definitely a nice feature. I have an old Ford LGT18H (1988) that has the rocker peddle for forward and reverse, so the Kubota design is proven and not unusual. I do however love the 2 peddle design of my 1026R. Great, great video series Tim and Christy!!!

Actually 10K is a bit low, the L4060 to Deere comparison was $12K last year (21) when I was shopping, and it wasn't a perfect apples to apples, nor were filled tires part of it. The Kubota had a few positives over the Deere, one being the Kubota was heavier, which is a must, and the loader, while not lifting as much weight, had a higher lift to it. It is also a bit longer in wheel base. For field work the weight and length is important, at least for me for stability.

My price on a 1025 R and a BX2680 with all the same stuff was $5200 difference. The only thing that the 1025R has that I really like is the side by side foot pedals. I hope when I am ready to buy there will be some deals.

The Fuel tank location on the Kubota is a huge advantage over the Deere!!!!!!! And the SSQA is standard on the Kubota so that opens the door for a huge selection of used attachments for the loader.

I looked at both these tractors and I bought a Kubota for 2 main reasons. 1 the $10k price difference. 2 John Deere needs to update the 4 series cab, it’s silly that they slap the 3 series cab on the 4 series frame and charge you more. It feels small inside and looks goofy too.

One of your best comparison videos. These two tractors are extremely close. My brother has a 4066R and I have a L4760. I wish my Kubota had the rear controls for hooking up 3-point. My brother wishes he had the HST Plus feature. Of the two, we find the extra speed adjustments is a much bigger deal than the rear controls. I use that feature almost everytime I use the tractor. Using bucket, grapple, and almost evrything else. It's a BIG plus.

Tim if he goes with kubota he wants the L2272 third function kit. My dealer didn’t know it existed till I ordered it. It adds factory third function as well as in cab push button hydraulic skid steer quick connect. He can change from bucket to forks without leaving cab to unlatch anything. I purchased a L6060 in November of 2021. I’m very familiar with the grand L as I previously had a L3540. When I purchased I shopped all of them again to make sure of what I wanted. I will say the hitch assist seems like a great feature on the John Deere but if you have a quick hitch not sure how often you would use it . Fuel fill location on the kubota is superior. Cab size is noticeably better on the kubota as well as it is a 4 post cab instead of a 2 post John Deere has which adds the rear corner windows that pop out. Only complaint or change I would make on the kubota L6060 is I wish it had a economy pto lever. For the size implements your gonna run you generally don’t need all 53pto hp . Mine is thirsty as majority of my tasks are done at pto speeds and it burns a little over a gallon of fuel a hour. You will run out of weight/ traction before you run out of hp with these machines.

This two video series was fascinating to me. I thought it was awesome to see Pete on your channel learning from you about determining what you need your machine to do. Then, when I saw this video with Zach, I was really happy for them to get that visibility on your channel. As far as which machine to get, I own a Kubota, but both of these machines are excellent. Having said that, I was shocked by the price difference, for a machine that is arguably identical in most ways. Great job Tim, Pete, and both dealerships for the hard work.

Same here. I got the LE HST-C with 3 rear remotes, 3rd function and quick attach remote, mirrors, cruise control switch, light switches, and PTO switch, which I installed myself, and not only was it less than the Deere by a substantial amount, the Limited Edition was $4K less than the Deluxe with the mirrors and front lights. I installed four LED work lights I got from Amazon with brackets I made myself for up front, and a $20 radio. Added a subwoofer so it sounds good too. All said and done, was ~ $44K. The Deere was nearly $56K.

I have no regrets about the L4701, but if I were buying again, I'd strongly consider a Kioti. It's basically a Kubota at heart. I had a whole list of tractors I was going to comparison shop at various dealers, and by the time I finished looking at specs, pricing, dealer locations, and everything else, I basically walked into the Kubota dealership and said "Sell me a tractor". The dealer actually talked me out of front and rear hydraulics, and I didn't understand enough about tractors to know why I would or wouldn't want those. I wasn't overly price sensitive, and I >really< wish I had gotten those.

I can post on one of the forums to you, but this works. The biggest thing to compare is the dealers also. I had wanted to move up to a 60hp tractor this year. I usually go kubota but deere has a bit more lifting capacity in the front. So I started talking with my deere dealer in may of this year telling them I wanted a 4066r open cab. They were very non responsive and took them about a month of me calling to get a quote on paper. So here we are in June and I have a quote but there are some things wrong in the quote. I kept calling and emailing my salesman and took weeks to get responses and finally all ironed end of july. August rolls around and ask and ask is the order in - no not yet. No calls back nothing. So I got pretty disgusted with the dealers lack of caring about me. Talking with Tim from big tool rack after buying one of his racks he said why aren't I looking at the grand L 6060. I already like my kubota dealer and have been dealing with them 20+ years. Went in and they let me have a test ride on one that was in the shop. Something deere couldn't let me do. And then priced it all out that day on paper with a quote. Was $17,000 cheaper overall with my features and attachments I wanted. Almost apples to apples. No brainer. Canceled my deere order and now waiting for a 6060. Looks like 1st quarter 2023, fingers crossed. If deere in my area can't treat me right while buying my tractor imagine how service would go.

No regrets. For me, price wasn’t the deal maker; it was quality, uptime, and exceptional dealer support and customer service. I’ve had a couple of Deeres through the years and they are mediocre at best in quality and performance for the cost. For us, there’s nothing here that isn’t orange. Great channel! Great content!

Kubota does not offer a MSL loader, but they do offer a "spill guard", or hydraulic self leveling, option. I cannot find documentation on whether or not the self leveling is only functional when raising the boom, or if it works on both up and down boom operations.

I think talking about the maintenance schedule needed for both of these machines is an important thing to note after the sale. I may be wrong but I believe the Kubota requires more frequent maintenance intervals than the Deere which will end up offsetting the price between the two. Another thing to note is the size of the loader, Kutota's loader is larger which obstructs your view a little more than the Deere.

Great video Tim!!! If the formal quotes are anything close to those in the video, it seems like a no brainer to choose the Kubota as much as it hurts to say that. The only feature that the 4066R had that stood out is the rear fender controls. That is a significant safety feature IMO, but I don't know that it is work $9-10k. That price difference is a tough hill to climb for an individual or a business unless they are dedicated to a specific brand. It would explain why all his buddies in the same line of business are driving Orange... Having said that, it seems that I read or saw in another video that Kubota does NOT adhere to the standards/recommendations for ASABE for agricultural/turf equipment design. That reliance on 'internal' standards is probably what is influencing the lower price point in slightly lighter design in some respects. The heavier overall weight does not mean it necessarily has higher engineering tolerances. I think for that reason, despite how closely spec'd, it is never going to be a simple apple to apples comparison between the JD and Kubota.

We sell 40 to 50 4066R each fall over here and they are all snowcab, snow contractors use them a lot and we save a lot of time in the setup because rear hydraulics, block heater, front and back lights and wipers are already there. a snow contractor will typically put a frame mounted plow on the front and a snowblower in the back or vice versa. I could send you some pictures of this setup if you want

I own the 4066R. I have rebuilt the steering cylinders on my dads JD 2555 and a Kubota M9000 both very similar. The Kubota seals and o-rings were almost 4 times as much. Kubota parts are always hard to get and forget about trying to get on a forum or watch a RU-vid video to repair a Kubota. The JD handled his Vermeer round baler and a 15’ Woods batwing so much better than the Kubota. Balance with 2,000 lbs in the bucket or hay spear as well as the pallet forks wasn’t even close. The JD would keep back wheels on the ground where the Kubota had 3 extra weights on each rear tire and still be unstable. Both had ballast in rear tires. I could go on and on about engine problems as well as brakes and clutched twice that had to be replaced with less than 1800 hrs on the Kubota. JD had over 6,000 hrs. Clutched once, never touched brakes or engine. I choose to pay more now than pay later.

I didn't have any tractor experience prior to getting the Kubota L4701HST. I can't say if the two pedal setup would be better, but I absolutely like the treadle pedal. I also very much like the treadle on the right of the transmission hump and the brakes on the left side. It's all very intuitive and comfortable. Regardless if I'm wearing tennis shoes or heavy boots, my foot doesn't get crossed up or anything in the treadle. My only real negative about the L4701 is the seat safety switch when using the forks. You just cannot see the pallet from a seated position, and if you stand up to look at it and want to creep forward, it won't let you. I'll likely put a bypass switch on it for that specific situation. I have no issue with having the seat safety switch other than with the forks, and it would be nice for it to shut off if I ever were to be thrown off :)

For me, dealership service would come into play in a major way. I am in an area where green service is very good, and orange is very, very bad. The two dealerships are almost next door to each other and about 10 miles from me. Many Kubota owners I know haul their orange tractors 100 miles for service elsewhere to avoid the local shop. Pete appears to have two quality dealerships close by him. He should appreciate that. When you have jobs lined up and waiting, having your tractor sitting at a shop for several weeks can cost more in lost business than that $10K difference in price.

When your in the realm of the 1025R there’s very little difference in price but, wow, there’s a big price difference as you go up the HP ladder! As I travel around my area I’m seeing more and more brands popping up (most of which are probably made by the same company just branded with different names) and I wonder what current parts supplies are, not to mention what’s going to happen three or four years down the road when these brands go out of business?

When I was looking to buy my tractor back in 2018, I really wanted to go green. I researched and test drove every brand I could find within a reasonable driving distance. I found that there really is no exact “head to head” comparison between Kubota and Deere. Their models seem to leap frog each other with each one falling between two sized of the other brand. I though the Deere 2 series would be the one for me, but it just didn’t have the capacity and capability I needed (especially with the backhoe), and over time I decided I wanted a factory cab. The Kubota Grand L series seems to fit between the 3 and 4 series Deeres, but with a much larger and nicer cab, equal or better loader options, and a more capable backhoe. I ended up with the Grand L4060, and it was both better appointed and substantially cheaper than the Deere 3 series, and WAY less money than the Deere 4 series. I’ve had the L4060 for over 4 years (and 5 summers) and have absolutely zero issues. It is a very capable, comfortable, and reliable piece of equipment, and I’m totally happy with my decision (even though it wasn’t green!)

Great video Tim. My company has both tractors in our fleet. We’ve had excellent performance from each machine. The John Deere is a more comfortable cab and seat and with better rear vision to grading attachments. The Kubota is very solid build and the HST transmission is very handy. The Deere is more stable on slopes, and the Kubota has a larger open feeling in the cab. If buying another machine we would go with John Deere.

Great Video Tim. I have to admit the Kubota has some features I like better than my Deere 4066R. Not that I would ever buy anything but a Deere. JD Green is just in my blood since I was kid growing up on the family farm, where we were very much Deere people when it came to tractors. IE. I think I noticed that Kubota's righthand door held itself open and I think I saw steps on both sides. However, I do really hate the Treadle peddle on Kubota. Did the Kubota offer more or less independent hydraulic options. My 4066R limits me to 2 rears independent SCVS and 3 mid/front. That something I really like about my 5Ms, is that mine both have 3 rear and 3 front SCVS all independent of each other. I am really hoping Deere Addresses that 3R/4R small cabs and limited SCVS in the next generation or they simply add E-hydro to some of the 5 Series models.

When I was shopping for a tractor, I purchased the Branson 3725 because it was the heaviest of the brands in a comparable size. More steel, cast iron transmission / differential (instead of aluminum), larger axles, more loader lift capacity, SSQA standard, engine built in the same factory that builds cummins generator engines.... Plus $20k less than green and $10k less than orange. 7 year warranty
