It’s hard to make a GOOD backstory that just keeps getting worse and worse, but anyone can think of the worst things imaginable and keep seasoning the story until it’s egregiously tragic. Edgelords do it all the time. Oda usually has better writing than an edgelord, of course, but just getting darker and darker does not make for a good story by itself.

There is a high probability Kuma traveled to Amazon Lily even if Oda didn't show it. The island is somewhere in the calm belt so almost no information of the island gets out and Kuma knows that the disease affected 2 people and both of them were female. He may have thought the Island of Women could have a cure for Sapphire Scale.

I feel he probably visits Amazon Lily later after he becomes a Warlord. Remember when he went to Gecko Moria basically just as a messenger? I'd figure he might have done the same for Boa at some point? The government wants Boa to do something, but all the captains and vice admirals they sent just keep turning into stone? Just send Kuma, he won't get turned to stone.

Unfortunately thats addressed even if Bonney only comes out at night or lives only inside. The disease will still kill her. Sunlight only speeds up the effects. The doctors told kuma. Regardless she has till she turns 10at best.

Oda has built such a loyal fanbase because of adding panels like how he visited all of the locations he sent the Strawhats to. The attention to detail is appreciated.

I think kuma probably did stop at tequila wolf because later in the chapter he said he was asking him self what dragon would do in some situations. I think he was talking about all the slavery on tequila wolf

Another reason to go to gloomy kingdom is that it is possible that the castle might have old records that Kuma could study. He can't exactly go to a kingdom and ask to go into the royal library but in the ruins of gloomy kingdom, there would be nothing stopping him. Royal libraries might have knowledge that common ones don't.

Or if Mihawk was there already, he could have just thought that the world's strongest swordsman might know some good doctors. After all, the title implies he has been through some serious fights, and any normal person would conclude that would mean he would have had to have some serious injuries treated at some point.

You mentioned Drum Island. I actually find it particularly odd he DIDN'T travel there. Remember that, at that point, the 20 doctors of Drum Island were known throughout the world for their medical capabilities. Of course, they were severely limited in what they were allowed to do by Wapol, but that fact wasn't commonly known. You talk about hoping the anime adaptation shows more of Kuma interacting with the people at the locations we see him visit in the manga; I want to see them add Drum Island to the list of destinations (and maybe a scene where he just misses meeting Chopper) as its omission seems strange in light of what we know about the island.

6:19 speaking of rare diseases, i was working at a summer camp about 5 years ago and there was a counselor who got bit by a tick and he contracted 'ROCKY MOUNTAIN SPOTTED FEVER' which is very rare and caused him to break out in spots and he was in poor shape for the rest of the summer.

It would be interesting if someone made a world map of Kuma's travels. His travels got him from South Blue (Sorbet Kingdom) to the Red Line (Mary Geoise), to West Blue (God Valley), to South Blue again (Sorbet Kingdom), to Paradise (Baltigo), to East Blue (Goa Kingdom), to the New World(Egghead) and to all the other islands he later sent the strawhats to.

I think there is an easy explanation for Kuma going to Amazon lily. We have already seen with Moria that the government used Kuma as a messenger for other warlords. It would make total sense if they had him deliver a message to Boa at her home

I feel like he would’ve tried that if he could. Bonnie still has the disease and Kuma himself doesn’t, so most likely he can’t push diseases out of people, at least not genetic ones like Sapphire Scale.

Well this is fortuitous timing. My little sister is watching through One Piece for the first time and she just finish Impel Down and is seeing where the Strawhats landed; so knowing what I know certain things hit all the harder. I'd actually like to take a moment to mention Ivankov, a lot of the stuff he says carries so much more weight knowing what he went through in this flash back. Him talking about how people have to have the will to have the will to fight for what they want and how he just helps give them a chance, then seeing his backstory really shows how Oda has had all this in the works for so long

In South American and Caribbean history Buccan was a cooking method and people who sold meat cooked that way were called buccaneers. I think it ties into the buccaneers and joy boy history and maybe luffy choice of cuisine is part of the will of joy boy. We all know kuma likes people with a big appetite. Been commenting this since oda revealed the buccaneer race and still haven’t seen any RU-vidr mention it.

Re: Law, I don’t think he’d made a name for himself just yet. The Supernovas all got 100 million plus bounties within their first year of pirating (or being deep undercover). Law probably COULD cure Bonney (not doubting his skills) I’m just not sure he was that infamous yet.

Like you, I really want to see you Kuma have an actual conversation with everyone he goes to. But I would also like it if they had someone say “I heard about an island where there’s never any sunlight” and then we see him go to Gloom Island. Or we see him here about Weatheria and then go there. I also have a theory that Kuma's bible isn't filled with biblical verses and the like but it's actually an atlas and the only true and complete map of the world.

I think the Op-Op fruit can heal anything, making it the most valuable devil fruit. The user needs to have vast knowledge and practice. Law may be skilled at surgery but he might or might not be as knowledgeable as Vegapunk or Kureha. However, Chopper and Law can eventually cure Bonney.

Kuma would have for sure taken her places near the end of her 9th year so that she could experience that adventure before dying.

I don't know if its actually canon or was only in the anime, but when Rayleigh arrived at amazon lily to get luffy and was asked hiw he knew he was there, we saw in the anime a flashback of kuma arriving in his and shakki's house and telling them where he swnt the straw hats, and he didnt know exactly where he sent luffy, rather he just pointed at the general direction and told them for how long he would be flying, and shakki then said that luffy is probably going to land in amazon lily based on her "woman intuition", and so Rayleigh packed his bags and set sail to amazon lily. So kuma never actually went to akazon lily and didn't know exactly where he is sending luffy, he just picked a direction and prayef it would end well

Off-topic, but I had a dumb thought: Since Bonney could manipulate her age with different possibilities to the point she even made herself have Kuma's body frame, is it possible that in order for her to be cured, Dr. Vegapunk used Kuma's genes to replace the ones, which caused her illness?

I don't think so I think that buff version is just a future version of herself where she got buff. Apparently she can choose to advance to certain futures . Like when oda wrote each characters bad and good future. So when she aged luffy he turned into an old man and not garp because she chose that version to age him too

Great video Tekking! im still hinging on the idea Vegapunk might have made her a new, disease free body, and Kuma used his power to move over her soul/ memories. I dont believe we know what the awakening of the paw paw fruit is, it is a very versatile fruit that not only permit fast travel and unique blocking techniques, but it can force out abstract things like pain/exhaustion/memories and move it into another person to bear. The full awakening might just be the removal of memories, but i woulnt be surprised if Kuma had the ability to just move souls around. Souls are a real thing in the one piece world based on the existence of Brook, so its possible the new body, same soul idea could work.

We don't really have any evidence that he can reject diseases or injuries though... We only know that he can reject pain but that doesn't mean he can reject someone having the flu or rejecting a bone fracture and healing it.

I really really hope in the anime they expand the sh*t out of every single thing happened for a single panel since the beginning of Egghead. We got too many breaks to suffer Onigashima 2.0 and have the most dynamic saga of the New World as unwatchable as the last 100 episodes

I can very well imagine that Law can cure Bonney's illness. After all, he can also make someone else immortal. But I believe that Oda HAD to write the story as it is now because Oda has already gotten too close to the current timeline.

Even assuming Kuma picked Amazon Lily because of Silvers... Amazon Lily could easily have been a safehouse plan Kuma had saved for sending Bonney to incase of emergency. They might be willing to let outsider women into the island. Kuja Bonney is a fun mental image.

Everyone is speculating who might inherit Kuma's Paw-Paw-Fruit Franky, Vivi, but I haven't seen anyone mention usopp. Imagine usopp the sniper king with the ability to send anything he touches no matter the size or weigh directly towards his opponents This fruit could be devastating when used by a sniper They could shoot entire buildings at full speed at their target. And with observation haki he could do so from a nearby island.
