Me too. I didn’t even laugh once. I think the victim was blackout drunk when he watched this. Way funnier stuff from Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and Benny Hill to die laughing to.
According to the wikipedia article “Death from Laughter” - which lists historical instances of people who have been reported as dying from fits of laughter - a man from King’s Lynn, England was said to have laughed at this episode for 25 minutes straight, resulting directly in his heart failure and immediate death. His widow later sent a letter to The Goodies, thanking them for making his final moments in life so pleasant.
He had a rare genetic heart condition that caused his death the laughter just kind of triggered it, his heart was a ticking time bomb he was likely going to die from it at some point
Had to start with play school at 3:30 I believe lol... and yes inspector gadget and dr who at that time was great! Somewhere along that line was COUNTDOWN!!! Ohhhhh and last but not least G FORCE
"On 24 March 1975, Alex Mitchell, a 50-year-old bricklayer from King's Lynn, literally died laughing while watching an episode of The Goodies. According to his wife, who was a witness, Mitchell was unable to stop laughing whilst watching a sketch in the episode "Kung Fu Kapers"
I'm an American who discovered the Goodies one summer in 1980 on public television. I fell in love instantly and have been a fan ever since. I share your grief over Mr. Brooke-Taylor's death, and I pay tribute to one of the greatest comedy teams of all time.
I was gutted to hear about Tim's passing, I loved watching The Goodies after school here in Australia back in the 80's. No one could get dressed as a woman or a scotsman and plastered in a karate pose more better than Tim, I never had the privlege of meeting you or the other boys from the Goodies but you will be sorely missed mate, Condolences from Australia RIP Mate!!!!!
"blackface" is considered racist in the US because the concept of the black and white minstrel show in the 1900's-1950's went on way to long to just be a joke. It has nothing to do with a one-off skit on a British television program from the 1970's
6pm Goodies, 6.30pm Doctor Who- This was my favorite part of the day for so many years. You made me so happy Tim, and want to wear a bath plug on a chain around my neck. Keep going in the next place! xx
Just got news of his passing... and introduced my partner to them(goodies) as she hadn't heard of them and they had her exploding with laughter and saying...such a creative wealth of ideas!..... anyone who knew them. (..in my case when I lived in Cambridge), will have fond memories of their contributions to making our lives a lot more bearable.... (your typography slarty: nice outlines!... ;.) )
A bloke called Alex Mitchell died in 1975 whilst watching the above episode. He died from 20 mins of continuous laughter that they think brought on a stroke. His wife found him dead on the floor.....RIP TBT. Thanks for all the laughs when I was a kid back in the 1970's.
I didn't know the Goodies growing up, so I don't have any nostalgia for them. But after seeing this, while certainly a product fo its time and while there are things I find funnier, I can see why this supposably made a man die from laughter. There are some very solid principles of comedy at work here, and they're also excellently executed. I'll certainly check out more of their stuff.
Thank you for posting this! I haven’t seen this (or any of the Goodies) since the mid 70’s in DFW when public TV aired them. Now I hope someone will post Kitten Kong, Clown Virus, or basically more full videos.
a part of my childhood died. the times he's made me laugh till i cried will be cherished. ive had this profile picture on youtube for several years now and i think it will stay there, from now on too, in his memory.
Thank you, I haven’t watched this episode since I was a child. I explained to my wife the Goodies going to war with black puddings and she found this episode. I’m in tears at 26:09.
I remember seeing the goodies as a young lad in Canada. Never got to see this episode. But finally. . . finally. . . yes finally. . . I learned how to pronounce Rochdale
I kinda see them as a later version of The Monkees, especially in their interactions with each other and the "romps", except The Goodies had more time to finesse their shows as they didn't have to crank out so many episodes in any one season as the Monkees did. Great stuff though/lots of cartoon-y fun!
This was definitely the funniest one they ever did . Saw it in the 70s the goodies were so popular with their music also . I had two of their L Ps . Bill oldie was a great singer . Didn't know about Tim R.I.P. Tim
I used to love The Goodies and it still holds up fairly well, but it creaks a bit around the edges. The short scene with Graeme in blackface would have to be cut if this episode was to ever be shown on TV again. I doubt they could ever broadcast the one about Rolf Harris in their celebrity safari park again either.
Anyone else never heard of this show until today or fairly recently? I’m from Tx in my 40s and don’t remember ever seeing this on tv. I know of Mr. Bean and Black Adder and Dr. Who but not this lol. I even remember The Bugaloos and HR Puffnstuff and The Banana Splits and Land of the Lost and Sigmund and the Sea Monster,to name a few shows from long ago lol
I Think maybe it was never Exported over too USA but was purely a British Show between 1970 to 1982 on BBC tv and LWT There moto was , anytime , anyplace, anywhere
And just because there is a rhythm of a joke does not make a joke appear. They don't even seem interested in performing. At least The Young Ones learned something valuable from this dross.
It's not enough to be offended is it? You have to make sure everyone knows it, too. Hope you feel better for getting this off your chest. Well done for being more right-on than a forty-five year old comedy sketch.
@@roecatgaming another hummor, but really this is was cringe+depressio than funny. Even funnier your comment when say N1gga not to be racist but i imagined it was say by a fat african rapper, like big smoke😂
