I think one of the neatest things is how the villain conflicts reflect Po's conflicts: first film, Po struggles to break way from his father's aspirations for him while maintaining the relationship, while Tai Lung wrestles with the betrayal he felt because of his father's aspirations for him and can't bring himself to repair the relationship. Second film, Po struggles to understand why he was abandoned and seemingly unloved; Shen feels inadequate and unloved due to his parents' perceived abandonment and seeks to prove himself through control of his environment.
The scene where Po faces what happened to his parents and home is one of the best pieces of animated drama ever put on film. It still makes my heart race and cry at the same time.
Mr Ping called him Xiao Po, and Xiao is a little Chinese add-on to babies’ names to say Little Po, like Baby Po, or someone precious and small in the family. But yay!!! I’m so glad you guys watched this movie and enjoyed it!!! The second movie is the Best , in my humble panda opinion.
When you realize the prophecy of Shen being defeated by a warrior of Black and White could refer to himself, since he ended up destroying himself by going down the path he choose.
It's a shame that not many audience would open up and recognize this theory. Personally, I also find this theory makes a lot of sense too. Seeing Po as the black and white warrior is just too obvious.
Personally I think Shen is the most compelling of the 3 villains (and that this movie is the strongest of the trilogy). Tai Lung's connections were cool but he wasn't very complex imo and he didn't have any strong ties to Po besides just wanting to be the dragon warrior. I'm a little biased because Shen is voiced by Gary Oldman who is one of my fave actors and I think he does such a great job being intimidating and giving Shen incredible personality. Shen's design is also super cool, his skill is impressive and it helps that a peacock is not something you'd think of as being strong or intimidating, but he smashes those expectations and plays to his strengths. I also love and respect how they didn't give Shen a 'redemption' arc, which is usually tempting for a lot of kid-friendly franchises; Shen refused inner peace and continued to let his resentment and desire for conquest consume him until he was the architect of his own demise (he cut the ropes holding the cannon up by his repeated attempts to cut Po down, leading to it falling on him), which he ultimately accepts. Regardless so glad to see you guys react to this, I gave up hope that we'd see it given that it was over a year since the first one. Happy to see I was wrong :)
If I remember correctly (it’s been quite some time since I watched the many origin stories for everyone) aside from Shen threatening the city, Masters Croc and Ox were also broken over Master Rhino’s death because the three of them have been a Kung Fu trio for decades after Master Oogway brought them together when they were cocky young adults. The various origin stories are definitely worth the watch. I loved Viper’s, Mantis’ and the Trio’s in particular.
This is one of my favorite and in my opinion one of the best animated trilogies! So glad you picked it up again 🥰 hope you can react to the 3rd one soon! ☺️🤞
With the Holidays coming, I have to say that one of all time favorite holiday shows is Fung Fu Panda Holiday Special It might be a fun watch for you guys
Tai Lung might be cool, but nothing he said comes close to the line, “It’s your parting gift, in that it will part you. Part of you here, part of you there, and part of you way over there staining the wall.”
So happy y’all are doing this trilogy. Such a good, badass, deep storyline. I think the general consensus was the same about Chen, he’s cool but tylong was amazing and at times Chen was a little corny. Still liked him though but yeah ready for you guys to see the next one!!
This movie's musical score should give you a ton of chills. It was done by John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon) and the Hans Zimmer. ELITE - The whole trilogy was Zimmer.
Not a Spoiler, just a fun fact. Po does have good stamina in the 2nd and 3rd films, but there's this thing in the franchise called, "Panda Asthma". That's why it looks like he's always out of breath. And I'm assuming they don't have any inhalers.
Let's goooo so happy you reacted to this one too! My favorite movie in the trilogy personally! The whole trilogy is definitely my favorite movie trilogy along with How To Train Your Dragon movies!
Tai Lung being a better villain than Shen is a crazy take XD Tai Lung was fine but was fairly run of the mill, Gary Oldman killed his performance as Shen though, he made a Peacock genuinely intimidating.
Truly, my favorite animated franchise of all time. Every single one of the feature films is a complete banger and holds it's own. Unlike many franchises where some of the movies are great and others are less than or even disappointing or completely bad. ☯️❤️
Great reaction! You guys are one of my favs. You should watch our flag means death! It is a pirate comedy and i think you guys would really like it. It is created by david jenkins and taika waititi
Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait another year or two for the third movie? :D to be honest I actually enjoy this movie and the third movie equally ❤️
