The furious five are actually based on styles of Kung Fu, there is a kung fu tiger style, a monkey style, a viper style, a mantis style and a crane style.

Kung Fu Panda gets into some deep philosophical ideas for sure. When both warriors looked at the Dragon Scroll. Po said “It’s Blank” and Tai Lung said “It’s nothing” Truly a reflection of both states of mind. When one looks at themselves in the mirror we could see potential or we could see flaws. The stronger person will always find the mirror to be aspirational.

“One often meets his destiny on the path he takes to avoid it.” If Shifu never sent the messenger, Tai Lung wouldn’t have gotten the feather to escape. Also, practically everything in the prison meant to stop Tai Lung actually helped him (the crossbows broke his chain and the bolts helped him gain elevation for example)

Oogway left because his purpose was completed, the dragon warrior had been chosen. His departure forced Shifu to trust in his master OOgway and in turn have Po trust in Shifu. Shifu could no longer use master OOgway as a crutch to help them fight their battles. Shifu had to let him go.

Love this movie, and love the trilogy! The second film especially is my favorite, so can't wait to see you react to that one!

The voice cast for this movie is pretty insane. Po: Jack Black Shifu: Dustin Hoffman Tigress: Angelina Jolie Tai Lung: Ian McShane Monkey: Jackie Chan Viper: Lucy Liu And of course, Po's father is voiced by the legendary James Hong... who has been in essentially every movie for the last 50 years that had any Asian characters in it. 👲

I loved when someone made the connection between Po saying "I'm not hungry" and Po's conversation with Oogway. Po eats when he's upset. And as he said, it hurt every single day just being himself. So when he found self confidence and achievement, he wasn't hungry anymore

1) Kung Fu and the themes of this movie are Chinese, not Japanese. 2) The different animals in the Furious Five are each different styles of kung fu (tiger, monkey, crane etc.) 3) Weirdly, the 3 main characters Po, Shifu and Tai Lung (panda, red panda and snow leopard) are not styles of kung fu. 4) In chinese/cantonese the word shifu literally means "teacher" or "master"....So Master Shifu is actually Master Master XD

Back when this first came out, there were hits here and there (like How to Train Your Dragon), but Pixar was the standard and none of the other animation houses were really up to snuff. This movie was such a delightful surprise and hasn't aged a day. Simply one of the best animated movies ever - I think I have it 4th on my list - and quite frankly better than most live action movies as well.

They did an amazing job on this movie, so much so that after it was released (also released in China, where it was a big hit) the Chinese government looked into why their own artists/movie industry didn't make movies showing Chinese culture, traditions, folklore, etc. like Kung Fu Panda did. Everyone knows equels, especially for animated movies, are usually significantly worse than the original, and rarely get back all the original voice actors. But so far all the original voices returned, and the 2 sequels are excellent. It's a nice trilogy. They really researched this movie, and everything is symbolic and/or has a hidden meaning. Flashbacks/dreams are all in 2-D and mimic traditional Chinese art. The colors each have different meanings, all the species choices are deliberate, and the names of things have funny translations. Shifu means 'master,' Oogway means 'Tortoise,' Tai Lung means 'Great Dragon.' His prison is named'Chorh-gom Prison,' which means 'sit in prison.' Tai Lung is a snow leopard, and in the wild, they prey on both red pandas and giant pandas, etc.

Sorry that I'm not sure, but, have you seen "UP" or "Who framed Roger Rabbit"? I'm pretty sure you would like them both. Two others that are cute but underrated are "Mars needs Moms" and "Planet 51". There are a ton of good animated flicks. There are the "Monsters, Inc." and Monsters University". Plus all of those listed below.

I HIGHLY recommend "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", "The Secret of NIMH", and "The Iron Giant" They're all traditional animation movies, not CG. Those right there are some of the best of the best!!

Fun movie fact: Each of the main characters had one animator and that animator only worked on their own character. That way the unique animation style didn't change throughout the movie.

I didnt think of it until this millionth rewatch of the movie, but Oogway was actually being tested just like shifu was. Imagine how hard it would be to tell the truth and see the valley destroyed by a trusted student, only to have to tell all of your CLOSEST friends that a random panda is the dragon warrior. Even as a master among masters my guy the kung fu turtle was still on his journey, its the perfect medaphor for what martial arts (and the study of kung fu overall) represents to those who persue it as a true art of self mastery.

The scene where Oogway leaves is one of the most beautiful scenes ever on film, animated or otherwise. Even after watching this movie dozens of times with my kids it's difficult to not shed a tear.

I remember watching this movie in theaters for the first time back when I was 13 years old. I cried when I saw Master Oogway become one with the Force. His calm demeanor and the music playing in the background further elevated what I felt. His wisdom hits me every time. There are a number of short films that take place in between the movies that I recommend checking out. One of them is called Secrets of the Furious Five. Taking place right after the first film, Po tells a group of young students how the Furious Five were brought together. In other news, Jack Black is also voicing Bowser in an upcoming Super Mario film from Illumination. His co-star Seth Rogen who voiced Mantis in this film will go on to voice Donkey Kong.

Me and my kids LOVE this one! Love the action, the story, the messages, Jack black... 5 Stars! Oh, and Oogway drops gems like Master Yoda. So wise THE INCREDIBLES is the best animated movie imo. Definitely worth a watch

The Dark Crystal (1982) isn't animated, but it's another excellent film that is often incorrectly considered to be "just for kids" because it's a Jim Henson movie. (Jim Henson created Sesame Street and The Muppets.)

I loved this movie so much, and I saw it for the first time during a really cool time in my life, so rewatching it is always a reminder of good things.

“With authentic battle damage!” is a spoof of commercials that use that exact quote as a selling point to sell war machine toys/merchandise, often for movies like Star Wars. It’s basically showing how Po isn’t taking it seriously at all, treating it like a toy.

The trio is a great animated fun adventure of Kungfu Panda 1/2/3. So much fun

I saw this in the movie theaters, it was absolutely beautiful. I'm glad you got to witness this movie but I truly wish you had the theater experience cause that really do the movie justice.

The "Kung Fu Panda" trilogy is loved by every reactor who has reviewed them. I know you will enjoy the other two as well. Definitely watch "Storks" (2016) and "Kubo and the Two Strings" (also 2016). For classic films, I'm recommending "City Lights" (1931), "A Night at the Opera" (1935), and "Random Harvest" (1940).

Did you know they just released the animated series? The 1st season of Kungfu Panda : The Dragon Knight was released on 14th of July. You should watch the remaining 2 movies too.

29:40 Yeah it doesn’t work on him, in the scene where Mantis tried to find Po nerve by stabbing many needles to his back and you can see how Mantis struggled to locate Po’s nerve and at the end it took like a hundred needles to hit his nerve point. And Tai Lung only hits the Nerve Attack 5 times on Po so it surely didn’t work 😂😂😂

Each of the Furious Five represents a very famous, animal-based school of martial arts training (Tiger, Monkey, Mantis, Snake, and Crane styles). I'm not enough of an enthusiast to tell if they are shown to fight using the technique of their styles, but I wouldn't be surprised.

It's always a treat to see someone discovering such a good animated movie. I'd like to suggest almost all the Ghibli that exist but have to warn you they (Ghibli) are really fierce with copyright so for the sake of your channel, you may want to see them for yourself, and avoid reaction to them (that's sad, but rather that than having all those month of work jeopardize with videos that are too much likely to get strike). And as I'm pretty sure others would already have suggested you a bunch of Disney, Dreamworks or Blue Sky movies, I'd go for lesser known european ones that are great and would be nice to permit people to discover them through your channel : - The Prodigies (2011) - The Red Turtle (2016) - Ernest & Celestine (2012)

The Five represent major schools of the Animal Styles. The villain is a snow leopard. Leopard style was another of the animal styles.

This movie revisits some themes from the 1972 TV series Kung Fu, starring David Carradine as an Eurasian Shaolin monk. His character, Kwai Chang Caine, played the flute - and on ocassion used it as a weapon. He had a nice master called Po, and a stern master called Kan. Often the scenes at the Shaolin temple happened in a room full of candles. And the idea of Kung Fu as a way to achieve self-mastery and peace, is more alike to that TV series than to any Kung Fu movie, which are more centered in revenge and kicking lots of people. Carradine often said that the TV series and Bruce Lee's movies (which are also revisited in this film) were like the Yang and Ying of martial arts.

Hands-down one of the best trilogies animation has made 👌👌

Hey Marijke, to understand the philosophy of writing animated movies for kids you have to go back to the master kid program of them all, "Sesame Street". When child psychologist came up with the format for Sesame Street they found they had to layer adult themes into the plot lines to engage parents to watch the movies with their kids. Since the only way to get most parents to watch kids' shows back in the 1960s was to also engage the parents. This philosophy has carried on today. Once again a bow to the amazing work on Sesame Street that saved my young mind from utter boredom and emptiness.

Encanto is a really beautiful film about family dynamics. The music will make you want to dance and the story will make you cry 😢

Chinese Kung Fu is based on animal styles - tiger, snake, monkey, etc. Thats why each style here is represented by the actual animal - they werent chosen at random

The Five represent five different styles or techniques of Kung Fu. There is the Tiger style, Snake style, Monkey style, Crane technique, and Northern Praying Mantis technique.

Master Oogway phrases are like Confucious gold nuggets. "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the PRESENT." IF these are not words to live by I don't know what is. Funny side note: Mike Ditka (Legendary American football player and coach) always uses this master Oogway phrase to motivate players and to get them to live in the moment by forgetting past mistakes.

I don't know if you've already seen them, but there was an (2-d) animation renaissance in the late eighties and early nineties. Some you might want to watch: The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Secret of NIMH, The Land Before Time, and An American Tail.

At 15:00 Kung Fu is derived from the movements of several animals. These animals represent the different styles/types of Kung Fu. At 11:20 these interactions represent these 2 styles. Crane style is generally passive and has sweeping movement. Tiger style is generally aggressive with direct hard movements.

Great animation movies would include Zootropolis, Up!, Wall-E, Coco, Monsters Inc., Ratatouille and Inside out (In no particular order)

if you want to see a kid's movie that turned out to be amazing, "Hoodwinked". when I first watched that movie, the first 5 minutes I seriously considered turned it off, because I through it was way way way to kid oriented but it turned out to be so so so good.

If you want to get into animated movies, I highly recommend Studio Ghibli's movies. Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away are both good places to start, but if you want the deeper ones, try Princess Mononoke or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. They're fantastic.

You're quite correct. Tai Lung is a leopard... a Snow Leapord. Arguably one of the rarest and most endangered living cat on planet earth. Also I suggest prepare for the second movie.

I really enjoy, that reaction channels seem to make more and more adults appreciate animation. I grew up watching movies like this, so I keep an open mind with animated stuff, but I know a lot of adults are dismissive about it

The main reason all the martial arts masters he’s trains with were such a variety of different animals is because each one represents an actual martial art style. Tiger claw style, Crane style etc.

Another really great set of animation films is the How to Train Your Dragon series. 3 movies,all awesome, tearjerkers at times too.

Bit of trivia- all of the furious 5 animals are designed from the 5 real world styles of Shaolin Kung Fu: 1. Tiger 2. Monkey 3. Snake 4. Mantis 5. Crane There's so a 6th Shaolin style Dragon - which has footwork and movement similar to how Po moves using his "fancy feet"

I love how Oogway predicting Tai Lung was going to escape makes actually him escape (using the messenger feather).

It's also worth mentioning that the furious five have mostly warmed up to him after the first night. Viper was genuinely sorry she hurt him, and when he was fighting monkey with a stick,monkey hit it about twice ro make him feel like he was doing better.

KFP 2 is probably still my favourite cgi animated movie to this day, so I hope you get to that one. Other ones I think are very worth watching are the How to Train your Dragon movies, UP and Zootopia (Zootropolis in some regions).

Hey Marijke, is the darkness in Tai Lung a familiar feel to it. Think of Anikin Skywalker and you'll understand why Yoda didn't want to train Anikin or make him a Jedi master.

The story is filled with Kungfu references, the Animals represent some major kungfu styles, tiger form, praying mantis form, snake etc so each represent the styles still practiced today. Shifu is how you call your training master. So its doubles and translates to master master. The greeting respresent 2 ways, 1: the fist is the 🌝 and the palm is the ☀️ and the second meaning is the fist represents power and the hand represents control- so by greeting you promise to always have control over your power and not intentionally cause harm to others. That why it was the formalized way to greet your opponent before a fight or show respect that you will engage with honor. Lots more to unpack, but it is a lesson filled with Kungfu sayings and mantra’s.

This movie is actually inspired by another property created by Dreamworks, a PS1 game named Tai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger. Really underrated Beat'em Up, i loved that game back then. The soundtrack in particular is great, very unique.

An animated "kid's movie" that I think is quite worthwhile is Megamind (2010). Great movie that got kind of overshadowed by Despicable Me, which came out at the same time.

Both me and another commenter have said this before, but now it really bears repeating: If you loved Wall-E 🤖 you'll also love "9" (2009). It's another movie with a dystopian theme, that not unlike "Kung-Fu 🐼," involves a team of lovable characters battling the forces of evil. It's puzzling why it hasn't come to the attention of very many RU-vid reactors.

I don't know if you've seen it. But an animated movie celebrating its 40th anniversary this year is The Last Unicorn. That one would be good to watch if you haven't seen it.

Great reaction. Yes, there is a distinct difference between a "Kid" movie and a "Child Appropriate" (or "Family") movie. It's difficult to know without first watching it or getting accurate hearsay. Pixar has a lot of great family movies, with "The Incredibles" being at the top of my personal list. PS: Tai Lung is a Snow Leopard.

Other animated movies that you should watch are: The Prince of Egypt, Up, the Lorax, How to train your Dragon and the Lion King.
