This video has been 25 years in the making for me. My main reason for visiting Seattle was to see the home of Kurt Cobain and sit on his bench in the park beside his home. Finally I got to do this...and a whole lot more. In this video I take you on a tour of Kurt’s final days in Seattle and go inside places where was last seen. Places never before seen on camera. This was a personal odyssey for me and I’m so glad you the viewer, you the Kurt and Nirvana fan, could come along with me.
If you would like to become a patron of mine and donate to my channel so I can continue to create , please go to / scottontape
Thank you all so much for the continued support here. It’s appreciated sincerely.
Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 - April 5, 1994) was an American singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the guitarist and frontman of the rock band Nirvana. Cobain is remembered as one of the most iconic and influential rock musicians in the history of alternative music.
On April 8, Cobain's body was discovered at his Lake Washington Boulevard home by electrician Gary Smith, who had arrived to install a security system. Apart from a minor amount of blood coming out of Cobain's ear, the electrician reported seeing no visible signs of trauma and initially believed that Cobain was asleep until he saw the shotgun pointing at his chin. A note was found, addressed to Cobain's childhood imaginary friend Boddah, that stated that Cobain had not "felt the excitement of listening to as well as creating music, along with really writing [...] for too many years now". A high concentration of heroin and traces of diazepam were also found in his body. Cobain's body had been lying there for days; the coroner's report estimated Cobain to have died on April 5, 1994 at the age of 27.

I was 20 when Kurt died. I was driving my little 1991 Honda CRX on Route 3 in NJ going home from NYC. My boyfriend and I were listening to 92.3 fm k-rock when it was announced. I remember my mouth dropped open and I couldn’t believe what I heard. I had to pull over because I couldn’t help but cry. Kurt spoke to my mind and heart in so many ways. From the childhood similarities that drew me to him, to those incredibly emotional/angry screams that made him “the voice of MY generation”. He didn’t like to be held to that height but he was like nothing before. And nothing since. So much talent and so much potential. At 45 years old, I still miss him and think about him a lot. My 15 year old son has discovered nirvana. He’s really into Kurt and we’ve done a lot of bonding through me telling him all about that time period. He has my original Bleach CD from 1989. Plays a lot of nirvana on his guitar. I’m proud of my boy. We discuss Kurt a lot. Not only the music. But the man. Kurt still lives on! ✌️ ❤️

I was almost 29, and my son was almost 7. He was really into Nirvana. I liked them, but was more into Alice In Chains and Soundgarden. I remember him coming to me, crying, and telling me. I just held my little boy, and cried with him.

I'm 59 years old, and just a huge music lover, of all types, but mainly rock. I watched MTV from it's infantcy. Well when the grunge bands pretty much took the hair bands out of the equation, I was a little PO'd. and pretty much didn't give the Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana bands a listen, then one night I watched MTV unplugged, Nirvanna, and I was captivated by Kurt's voice and message, just blew me away, then it seems shortly after I heard on MTV the breaking news of his suicide, for a guy that just discovered this man and didn't even own an album, I was devistated. Scott, I discoved your channel by accident when it popped up on the side when I was watching a Stevie Ray Vaughn music video and you were visiting the crash site, which is not that far from where I live ( Iowa ) and just loved the way you video taped the whole thing with information that's I never knew. Hello, I’m Shawn McLane from southern Illinois...thank you for the awesome video. I too am a huge Nirvana fan and will someday go visit Seattle and the places you showed. I grew up with the grunge era, was 16 when Kurt died and was in my friends bedroom half drunk and high when the news came on the radio. And yes it is very possible to take that much heroin, I was a 12 year heroin addict myself and only by Gods grace am I still alive today. Been clean 2.5 years and it’s a struggle everyday. I feel for Kurt, I almost did the same thing to myself just as a way to get away from the hellish nightmare of heroin that eats away your soul for ever. My 4th stint in rehab finally clicked and been clean ever since. So yes I completely understand what Kurt was going thru, with the drugs at least. I also read about a creek or River there close to Kurt’s house that’s called McLane creek or River where he used to go and contemplate or whatever? Very cool, McLane is my last name. I used to be a heroin addict. My tolerance was sky high. I did an enormous amount. But after going into detox for 3 days will bring your tolerance down considerably. The amount of heroin in his system was enough to kill even the most severe addict. He would have been out before the needle even left his arm.

Interesting. Cobain did have a massive habit though, and I have read studies about users with very high tolerance levels who could function relatively well. It is interesting regarding the tolerance level dropping after detox, I didn't know it could drop so quickly. I still believe it was suicide though. He left the rehab on April 1st, he died 4 days later. I assume he was using in the days before his death, and he was only in rehab for 2 days.

He did a ton of heroin when he got back to Seattle. To the point where dealers cut him off because he was taking all of it and OD'ing. One night he took a suicidal dose and woke up in his car the next day. Which I think was the 3rd of April. His tolerance would have been pretty high after that.

Then after I was ready, I turned on MTV while eating lunch before I left for work, and they were talking about Kurt a lot. I was thinking what the heck are they talking about him so much for? A fleeting thought crossed my mind that maybe he had killed himself so I kept listening and indeed. I was very shocked but not surprised, and very sad and had a terrible night at work. It was just so weird how I had decided to listen to the tape again out of the blue. Of course, I ended up loving the album. It grew on me. RIP Kurt

I was 15 and a freshman in high school when he passed. I was not a big fan of nirvana but I believed he was a tortured soul and had some demons that he couldn't get a handle on. he was a talented musician and we will never know how he would've impacted the music today. I thank him for getting the whole thing to main stream so we have the music to remember him and the amazing artists that came with grunge. so I say thank you kurt!!!!

Solid fan of yours, no question. Stating your opinion, which is in line with what I believe as well, in a direct concise manner, I have so much respect for you. I appreciate you taking us along, I was a big fan of Kurt's and hope he's flying high having left his pain behind him. Suicide is most painful for the ones they leave behind.

Hi Scott, I was a junior in college when Kurt died. I remember hearing it on MTV News. It was very sad and surreal. Whenever I see pictures or videos of Seattle and the places Kurt frequented, I feel a great deal of sadness and heaviness. All these years later and I can't shake the feeling. I hope wherever he is, he's finally at peace. Thank you for sharing this with us!

I feel you brother. I know im late on this video (about 3 years) but I can feel you. I empathize with the way you feel. I'm a huge fan of Kurt's. Also of Shannon Hoon. I'm 42 years old. I remember when Kurt passed. I remember thinking that Shannon kind of went unnoticed because he was over shadowed by Kurt. It's a strange world we live in. I would of never thought I could connect to fans the way I do now because in our day we didn't have RU-vid. It's like if you lived in the 90's you totally get it. If not I fully believe you can appreciate it but it's not the same. Kurt was such a fascinating person and still is to this day. It's crazy but I know more about him.thwn ever these days because I can watch videos that would of never been aired in our day. People like you make me remember how important he was. He literally defined the 90's for me. Thank you so much for doing what you do. I can relate to you but also to Kurt. I was a hermon addict at one point. Shit I'm 42 and still go to a methadone clinic. Even though I own own business. I don't ever admit or talk about that to people because I'm a plumber and it's not something I'm proud of. Going through withdrawal sucks. I've done it then I end up using again. So for the last 5 years I've stayed on methadone out of fear of using again. I wish Kurt never killed himself but at the same time it's like I can understand why. When you're an addict it sucks. Imagine being an addict amd the world is watching you in your 20's. At this point in my life I'm like "I am who I am" and I try to be a decent human being. I feel like people like us can totally empathize with the human condition and know it's not all black and white like some people would like it to be. So I know I'm just a random dude replying to RU-vid but just like Kurt people like you mean so much to me. Keeping it real, as they would say. Brother, I'm so glad you make your videos because it allows me to visit Seattle with out actually leaving my house. I know I'm rambling but I usually don't respond too much to you tubers. You just brought me back. We all live such short lives that it seems like the 90's was a totally different universe. Did it even happen? Obviously it did but I'm glad people like you go out of your way to remind us.

Thanks Scott. This was really emotional to watch. I was just shy of 16 when Kurt died. Living in Australia we found out on the Saturday, and it was being talked about on my local community radio station (3RRR FM Melbourne). I didn't leave my room for the rest of the weekend. The following Monday at school all my friends were just devastated, like me. Such a sad time. I was kinda suspicious from the start, because it just didn't seem right. At the time I would never have thought I would actually get to know Tom Grant 20 years later, and have an active role in trying to get Seattle PD to re-open the case- even from as far away as Australia- the internet has really shrunk the world! Anyway, thanks again for all your Nirvana vids. All the best. Dan

Thanks Scott, I am a big fan (of yours). I am pretty sure the last days sighting at Linda's was never confirmed nor at the Marco Polo nor of Kurt sitting in the park, although he had been at Linda's and MP prior. There was another sighting at a restaurant (Cactus?) was confirmed where he had dessert with some unknown people who never came forward. He also was never missing as Courtney said - ie he called Courtney and left a message as he left rehab and turned up at his seattle house hours later and talked to 2 people in the house straight away who also told her... it all gets more and more odd and disturbing the more you look....
