somebody congratulated skyll on becoming the best sol player in the world just before winning this tournament. the next sentence he heard was that he was the best by default because all the other big name sol players dropped the character

It's probably not great for the competitive scene when every other character has to struggle uphill against HC, while HC can rely on flowcharts. You still need to be incredibly skilled to pilot a HC at that level, but once you start the combo, it's a done deal.

I know Sol has been nerfed a bajillion times, but he's still my favorite and my main. Strive is the first actual fighting game I ever bought, just 'cause the cast of GG and Sol especially just ooze with so much style. I feel a strange amount of pride knowing that a lot of people dropped him and that I still play him, because it shows the difference between people picking up a good character vs people picking up a character because they like them. Glad Skyll won it there.

No idea what the differences between release Sol and today Sol are. But last GG I played before this was AC+ and Sol still feels like Sol from back then. So to me I have no idea why someone would drop him.

He kinda got power crept, nerfed the plus frames on his far slash, and his combo routes are generally worse/less damage

On release he had stronger pressure with less pushback on stuff like far slash, he was less weak to FD, better combo route options which led to more damage, an even better 6S (still a good button but on release it was nuts) and better oki off of bandit revolver tho no rekka mind games on it. Losing that stuff, alongside other characters being buffed or added, some of them bad matchups for Sol even, led him to drop on the tier list a solid ammount. He's still a decent character though, and is still very much so Sol Badguy in his strengths and weaknesses. The design philosophy behind Sol never really changed.

19:25 i disagree but i won't deny that the character was better than the majority of the cast by a substantial margin. personally i think that had more to do with how fucking juiced 6S was instead of far S and 6P being an easy wallbounce button did not help his case. it certainly also didn't help that sol was one of few characters that actually felt complete in the release state of the game i don't sympathize with the people who dropped sol after his first round of nerfs but i can't blame those who dropped the character after subsequent nerfs and that mostly is because of the fact that we've essentially had to relearn a worse character from the ground up basically 3 separate times now. idk about anyone else but i say if a character has been fundamentally changed as much as sol has in strive, the only players that are left tend to be the ones that are really willing to knuckle down, study the craft and develop the character as much as they can and you gotta respect that level of commitment, regardless of how silly it might be

Ram players been eating good since day one. The only reason why we don't get nerfed is because Rams dont win tournaments. People wanted Sol and HC nerfed, but us Ram players go under the radar.
