He got countered plain and simple. I wish people would stop saying he had an off match. His opponent was ready for that very position and countered. Give credit where it's due; to his opponent. @smoore8
@smoore8 2 года назад
@@johnnybeefum I didn’t say the opponent didn’t have a game plan. He had a counter and a plan for Dake’s bread and butter. Dake failed to make an in match adjustment, because no one has had a game plan to neutralize his unreal leverage from seatbelt position. He was stubborn had he given up throwing him and wrestled him he would have won. Just saying he did have an off match, being focused and strategic is part of a good match-Dake knows this.

I've always wished the US would just switch to freestyle at the high school and college level. I've always felt we'd dominate the world if our wrestlers didn't have to spend years practicing different strategies than the rest of the world. It wouldn't be a spectator transition as families of wrestlers watch their kids wrestling FS from the time they're kids. Or, at least, introduce exposure points into folk or something? I just think guys like Dake would have done the same thing he did in college and would walk through the world if those thousands of hours wasn't spent on things like practicing riding time.
@richiedaibes4107
@richiedaibes4107 2 года назад
I think the exact same thing. I think the transition from folksytle to freestyle would be a very hard thing to learn, and the kids who took after it and understood would be the same kids representing their country

Idk why HS wouldn't do this and have a bigger talent pool that gets into FS
@stampscapes
@stampscapes 2 года назад
I don't know if this is true or not but, I seem to recall someone saying schools might be worried about moves like souffle's being done (HS/colllege) and kids breaking necks or something like that. But, if that was the case, at any age practicing FS or Greco, you train to prevent that. I don't remember seeing a single neck injury in any match, tournament, or practice when I was in it. If anyone knows the reason why we have folk and not FS, please post here. I've always been curious/puzzled about that.
@stampscapes
@stampscapes 2 года назад
@Ian Patton Yeah, I get what you're saying on conditioning, as I wrestled all three styles, but still don't know why the US chooses to favor folk over the rest of the world. In every (or almost every) other sport, the rules are the same (from US to international) so US (high school/college) athletes aren't going to have to practice different strategies for so many months of the year. I doubt Dake was spending a lot of time during his college seasons on leg laces for example. If it's time considerations, just have college matches FS but have them 7 minutes. At bare minimum, get rid of riding time in college.
@4lifejeph
@4lifejeph 2 года назад
That might make some sense to get kids ready for world championships and the Olympics but personally I like folk a lot more that freestyle. I like that folk has a much better ground game and way less starts and stops. Also, I've seen too many freestyle matches that were won or lost because the ref put someone on a shot clock late in the second period.

Dake had the perfect gameplan for Burroughs based on his experience wrestling him, however, this didn't translate to this Russian. Imo, I believe Burroughs would have beaten him, but would have lost a 3rd time to the other Russian gold medalist.

The main problem is people Need Jesus. They dont have him and the world is falling into sin. Wrestling in health is great you can honor God through that but the context he needs is that without God nothing matters. A lost is a lost and means nothing cause if you have God that is the most valuable thing

@Ian Patton You can disagree. But doesnt mean you arent wrong. There is no greater " value" out there than a relationship with God. Not fitness, nit anything. You can lead people to fitness and the world still wouldnt be any better. Its problem is sin. If you lead everybody to Christ, there is no.longer any problems.

Not period. Take away the counter and throw for 4, take the following 2 point counter away, he still loses decisively. Hard to imagine him defeating Sidakov either. Bronze is good!

Jip, he doesn't even have a scratch on Sidakov won't be able to make a dent. Dake's problem is at 74kg his skeletal muscle mass to body weight ratio is not optimal so will never be competitive against Sidakov or JB in his prime. At 79kg he is a beast and will beat any wrestler his up against.

We get hung up on gold, silver and bronze or first, second or third but some days it just ain't your day. For me it's how you react to a devastating loss or setback. I'm always impressed when a favored wrestler in the NCAA tournament loses early and comes back to win third place because he (or she) has to wrestle so many more matches knowing they'll never get the first place they dreamed of. To suck it up and grind it out no matter what happens is what counts imho. He'll always be in the conversation of greatest American wrestlers.

I root for America, I root especially for American wrestling, I root for Dake....with that said I have just never been a fan, his personality exudes arrogance. Oh boy, the other guy just outwrestled you, end of story. What bugged me wasn’t your loss, but rather the fact that you did not shake hands with the winner right after losing, but rather walked away. You were humbled, and did not take your lesson in humility very well. A true champion is gracious both in victory AND defeat. Learn this lesson first before your next competition.
