Kyle Lowry. 2019 NBA Champion. 2016 All-NBA Third Team. 6x NBA All-Star. 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist. THE greatest Toronto Raptor of all-time. The 2018-19 season was Kyle Lowry’s best season for multiple reasons: he was the driving force behind the Raptors NBA title and it was, statistically, his best season as a distributor (8.7 assists per game - second overall in the league). The 2019-20 season, however, was perhaps his most impactful. 7.5 assists a game, led the league in charges drawn, and had his highest single season usage rate (per Cleaning the Glass) since his 2015-16, the year he finished with an All-NBA Third Team nod. Toronto was supposed to take a massive step backwards following the loss of Kawhi Leonard but they finished with the SECOND most wins in the entire league. Per Cleaning the Glass, Lowry finished the season shooting 59% at the rim. That’s not bad for a 32-33 year old player under 6 feet. Let's not forget him throwing up 33 points on the would-be champion Lakers in the Bubble or 33-8-6-2 on the Boston Celtics in the biggest game of the Raptors season.
The long and the short of it is simple: Kyle Lowry Over Everything! KLOE is a place of zen. A moment in time where Kyle embodies everything right about team basketball: winning, selflessness, and sacrifice. He makes the right play time and time again. He is brilliant with the basketball. His passes are not only inch perfect, they are immaculate. His body is battered and bruised from being the single greatest rim/back line protector at his height EVER. He is the engine that makes Toronto go. With the probing, relentlessness, the willing of passes to happen seemingly through sheer WANT, and the unceasing sacrifice of life and limb - Lowry reminds me very much of Steve Nash. It is no wonder Canadians love him.
