Here, I take a look at the value of family in the 2013 series from director Rie Matsumoto and TOEI Animation--Kyousougiga. It's no secret I love stories about family. This is my third video in the last five months on the subject, and a number of my favorites deal with this theme in some way. That said, few if any capture the feeling of home better than Kyousougiga. Watch the video to see why! Enjoy!

I consider Kyousougiga to be quite possibly one of the few masterpieces in anime we've had the luck to have this decade, and we're also lucky to have now such a great review on it. But seriously, we don't get animes like this too often. And few animes have been able to give me such an overwhelming sense of nostalgia the first time I see them (Only this and FLCL, to me), when nostalgia for a show usually comes when you see it after having seen it already a long time ago. Kyousougiga is really a rare gem, and also a precious one.

I do actually have a nostalgia for this show, it was one of the first anime I fell in love with. I totally loved its aesthetic (and still do) and it touched me deeply, making me cry multiple times. I should really get around to rewatching it at some point, I bet I'll still love it and understand it way better than when i was like 16 or so. Thank you for making a video about it, especially such a good one.

9/10 for me, imo numbers aren't enough to portray this spectacular show. I really enjoy the symbolism of Buddhism in Kyousougiga. For an anime so bombastic and self fulfilling, filled with dysfunctional people, it sure is charming! I think one thing Kyousougiga does better than most anime is that they never pity the characters no matter what they been through, they never forgive but they'll come to an understanding with each other. It's like family, you understand their mistakes, but you stay together with them. Until one day the flaws of yours and theirs cracked together and you realized the inevitability of parting. You'll meet again and move on, so there's nothing to pity, nothing to hate, nothing to blame. For how flawed all the characters are in the show, they all tried their hardest to keep that vibrant exterior of mirror capital on. That's what I love about Kyousougiga. It did not limit the story of growth to the child but to the adult as well.

I always come to your channel after watching a show you've covered. It makes me appreciate it more, even if it's from your point of you. I wasn't sure what to expect from this anime, but I was being led to thinking there would be lots of action between gods and stuff. I was off, but I was still happy with what was given. Koto really made me adore the show more. Her purity is very transparent. I love how she is treated as a kid. Towards the end your message made me think back to clannad towards the end of season 1. Akio said something along the lines of "children are the dreams and Hope's of their parents. Your happiness is ours." Thinking of that and the theme of kyousougiga really hit me deep.

@PupDeLaTart
@PupDeLaTart 4 года назад
I know this was a comment from quite some time ago, but I want to add for those that have this feeling: understanding your depression and facing the pain it brings is honestly one of the best ways to get through it. It will always be there, a tinge of melancholy that blankets your life, but without the pain, there is no growth and a difficulty to feel "alright". Just keep that in mind, your tears of sadness are just as much tears of fondness, gratitude, and remembrance. Much love and hang in there.

You know what's funny? I just finished watching Kyousougiga yesterday!! I absolutely loved the world building, art, animation, character design, and the whole whimsical feel of this anime. The thing that kept bothering me was that the plot development felt like they kept pulling stuff out the butt just to close plot holes and resolve major worldly threats with what seemed like a finger wag. Not to mention I spent more time thinking, "what is going on?!" rather than enjoying this masterpiece of art. Regardless. I think it was a good anime that could have much more of an impact if they spread it out to a few more episodes, but hey. UTS, absolutely great review! You brought my attention to a theme in the series that helped me to appreciate it more than before. You never let me down with your insight. Thank for the vid!

In a whole, Kyousougiga would only score a 6.5 for me. Yet the visual of this anime is so amazingly stunning. I'm not just talking about aesthetic alone here. The council of the 3 looks like one of those nursery beds with stars and toys hanging on it which is more or less what it actually is, a place to nuture him. Also that scene (in episode 1? )where the narrator introduced the mirror capital with the family holding hands and then disappearing behind the closed door was A+. What got me to actually finish the anime in the 1st place. Top 10 anime moments .

@aarlavaan
@aarlavaan 2 года назад
Because underneath the zaniness and the over the top presentation it is a show about family relationships, coping with loss, self worth, personal identity, longing for the past, and hoping for the future. each of the main characters struggles with those things in their own way, and each presents a different way to cope with them. most people can relate to those things, I think. I also think Koto is a great audience PoV character because she is learning everything right alongside the viewers (and generally is just as confused), despite being an integral part of the story herself.
