Russell, You said: "essentially it's a hypermarket, but they call it a supermarket". No, they do call it a hypermarket. When you entered that store, you showed a sign in Russian overhead that reads "гипермаркет Алма" - that is hypermarket in Russian. By the way, as you must have noticed, most signs in this city are in Russian, and most residents speak Russian - even there are a lot of Bishkek Kyrgyz residents who speak Russian only, as their native language, not to mention a huge number of ethnic Russians there
@TravellingwithRussell
@TravellingwithRussell 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for commenting and pointing out the sign, sorry if it seems confusing how i explained it. My friend with me for the week had lived in Bishkek for the last 6 months and after moving from Russia he was more than comfortable there knowing that most people spoke Russian.

Russell, it's hard to compare Moscow with Bishkek because Moscow is much-much bigger. It's on a completely different level. As the largest city in Europe, Moscow's population is actually three times bigger than all of Kyrghyzstan. So Moscow is a much bigger market for this kind of hypermarkets, malls etc. And interestingly, there're so many Kyrghyz immigrants and labor migrants in Russia and in Moscow that Moscow alone has more ethnic Kyrghyz than Bishkek, their capital city. And those Kyrghyz migrants brought their culture, traditions and cuisine to Moscow, so you can actually easily find those traditional Central Asian lepyoshka (flat bread), kumys (horse milk) etc everywhere in Moscow, including Moscow supermarkets that are well stocked with flat bread, kumys, Ayran salty milk drink, Tan milk drink etc.) There's an abundancy of that stuff in Moscow, as well as numerous Kyrghyz eateries
@TravellingwithRussell
@TravellingwithRussell Год назад
Thanks for the further explanation. I have only seen one brand of the horse milk in all of the different supermarkets in Moscow. I know its impossible to compares the two cities. But the selection in the supermarket was what i was trying to point out.

Did you ever wonder how come Coca Cola and McDonalds are the two brands which exists in every country? When a country joins GTO or loans money from the world bank, one of the requirements is to give a preferential place on the market for those two brands. So they are this popular not because they produce good quality products, but because they are forced on the markets all over the world. Politicians make tons of money off of it.

Thanks for a very interesting video. About the horsemeat flavoured crisps, I've never heard of that flavour on crisps before. If someone would put a bag in front of me, I'd take one to be polite, but I'd never buy a bag myself 🌞 But I since the Ikea meatbulls used to be seasond by a hint of horse until the early 2010's, I suppose that it's tastier than it sounds 😊 One question about all the Coca Cola's. Wasn't there any Diet Coke in Bishkek? Here in Sweden, I think that Coca Cola Zero, Diet Coke and Pepsi Max outsells the sugary Cola's nowadays. Yet again, thank's for a nice youtube channel 😊

We used to put smoked horsemeat in thin slices on the sandwishes before here in sweden but I think it ceased nowadays . Actually in the 19th century and before that all horses were buried outside the villages by the hangman ! I was because they were considered soulless creatures . You were not supposed to eat them , people rather starved !! Nowadays they are sent down to southern europe to be dealt with when they've died . The video was cool , as usual . I would like to be able to pack my own rice , it would be nice ! We do it with potatoes so why not !! People there must have cravings for coke ! I have never seen so much coke in my whole life ! Also here in sweden a lot of local fissy drinks has dissapeared but we still have our "must" that we drink on christmas and easter which taste different from coke but look the same ! I dont mind seeing Gleb in future videos ! Seem to be a nice guy !

Russell, I see your prejudice towards horse meat, but I will tell you that it is not only used in Central Asian sausages. In the recipes of some of the most expensive varieties of raw smoked sausages, there is always a certain amount of horse meat (as well as cognac, by the way). And of course, these are not horses from the hippodrome, there are special meat breeds with a special regime of keeping and feeding.

Notice a lot of horses on farms in Russian videos, and I don't think they're riding them. When I looked up, horse meet is considered secondary meta, or for unique occasions. I know this video isn't in Russia.

Horse meat is popular in many nations. France and Japan import horse meat from Canada. In Japan's case they import the horses alive to Japan, which has the animal rights people quite upset.
