Now restored to, perhaps an even more magnificent splendour than before, L'Aquila, the capital city of Abruzzo has got to go on top of your list of places to visit when you come to the most beautiful region of Italy.
Join us as we visit some of the top sites in L'Aquila including the Collemaggio, Basilica di San Bernadino, Fountain of the 99 Spouts and we also bring the kids to the capital of Abruzzo in the evening to enjoy the festive lights and atmosphere as well as a spot of ice skating and a ride on the Ferris Wheel from the top of which the Piazza del Duomo looks utterly magical!
If you are looking to move to Abruzzo or elsewhere in Italy, then for all the services (realtors, legal, finance, etc.), you require to help you, from finding your dream home to living la dolce vita, check out our pinned comment.
Hope you enjoy the video. Please do subscribe to our channel if you haven’t already; it means a lot to us. Grazie! ♥️

Grazie! ♥️

Hi John, Lovely to hear from you again and so glad you liked our latest video. Yes Pope Celestino V (the hermit Pietro da Morrone) was inaugurated at the Collemaggio, he was also buried there and his remains are still held there. Mussolini was held captive in the hotel (the red building that is been renovated) at the top of the ski station at Campo Imperatore in the L'Aquila province. Whilst it was still open you could go in and see the room where he was held plus there was loads of Mussolini memorabilia for sale. A couple of his descendants are still in politics here in Italy I think. The 99 spouts were to signify the 99 castelli/lords that came together to form the one city of L'Aquila. The history is fascinating in Abruzzo isn't it!

I have been following the restoration of L'Aquila on Google Street View of all things and it's so impressive. Looks like they're doing a splendid job of the buildings, as only the Italians would, even if it does take time, it'll be worth it. Great video.

You guys are a beautiful family, may God continue blessing you and your families. You guys are truly blessed with your adorable children and living in the best country in the world. I truly enjoy the content that you present on your channel, especially all the historical sites and you give details on such sights. I love that you explain that there was an earthquake in that area of Italy, because so many happen, often one forgets what area and the towns, so to me that is very educational and to show the after reconstruction of the city that was nice to see. I find myself looking for house every time you show a particular area, that means, you are presenting the area very well and somehow becomes kind of magical in my view. Thank you for all you do, God Bless.

@@ExploringAbruzzo oh me too it has just been always in the back of my mind since my grandfather passed right when I found out I was pregnant with my first son and then my grandmother passed when I was 9 months pregnant with my second son so it really just has always been a huge goal you know to take my kids no matter how old they are and return to our homeland. I guess like a millennials pilgrimage lol

The 99 spouts fountain has 93 spouts with a mask, plus 6 little pipes in a corner. But few people know that there's a 100th spout outside the walls (where there's a restaurant now).

I didn't know that either. But surely that must have been an addition or maybe there was a 100th Lord/village that joined at the last minute!

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment, so glad you liked the video. L'Aquila is such a beautiful city and we are so happy you took our recommendation and enjoyed your visit there. It really is one that should go on top of anyone's 'city break' lists and particular on anyone's list of things to do and see when they visit Abruzzo. It was so lovely to meet you and Tina and we can't wait to see you both again! xx

Hi Claudia, at the moment we only have the FB page and IG account for The Dove Tower Abruzzo in San Benedetto in Perillis. We are also going to be on a UK Channel 4 series with our project later on this year. I'm going to be setting up a website and RU-vid account for that project this year though... when I get a moment 🤣

If you buy in an Earthquake area can you get insurance so if your house falls down you get cover to rebuild? Or will they not insure?
@ExploringAbruzzo
@ExploringAbruzzo 3 месяца назад
Yes you can get insurance but it's incredibly expensive so most people don't bother. With the L'Aquila earthquake of 2009 property owners with damage received government funding up to around an 80,000 euro threshold for repairs per property/unit. If your property was a cultural heritage property then the government paid the full amount of seismic restoration. Best to buy a property that's had the seismic work done and then you don't need insurance.

Just found your channel, do you live in Italy? Which town? I'm looking in Abruzzo now for a getaway home. \

Hi there. We have two projects on the go at the moment, one in San Benedetto in Perillis - you can check out our FB page TheDoveTowerAbruzzo and also another in Sulmona and we are renting a place between the both. We have lived in Abruzzo since 2018 and love it. Have you visited? Great place for a getaway home too, it's such a diverse region so you should explore it thoroughly to make sure you buy something that suits all your requirements. We located ourselves smack bang in the middle of Abruzzo because we love both mountains and beach and as such we have the best of both plus, with easy access to the main roads and motorway we can get pretty much anywhere in Abruzzo in under 1 hour.

@@ExploringAbruzzoThanks for the response! I have been there twice. Went last year, stayed in Pescara because of the easy access to trains and buses. Explored around that area, including Sulmona, Chieti, Vittorito, etc. So gorgeous. As a visitor with a getaway house, hopefully, I won't be able to own a car so I am looking for a house near public transportation. Not as easy as I'd hoped. But I am continuing the quest. I plan to be back again in the spring. Jackie
