Can’t wait to return to Solmona. Such a beautiful town. My wife and I purchased a place in Pratola a few months ago and it has some renovations getting underway. If I didn’t think Italy isn’t going to become an Islamic caliphate I’d emigrate to this region where my family originated. England, Sweden, France and so possibly Italy.
Italy is incredibly catholic and proud of this historic religion with festivals celebrating it in one form or another in nearly every village, town and city during the year! We've attended some of these festivals and they are just wonderful. At Christmas time there are many 'living' nativity plays in the villages which are just wonderful and Easter... well, what better place to go and visit than Sulmona with the 'Madonna che scappe procession then reinactment. There is a huge community built around the church in all areas here with everyone welcome whether you practice catholicism or not.
We were just in Sulmona for 9 days and left the day before the celebrations. Going to make sure we are there next summer for it!!! Sulmona is such a lively happy place!! Miss it. Thank you for sharing!!!
Sulmona, the Jewel of Abruzzo! We were there in June, and completely fell in love with it. Going back next March and staying for a month. Thanks for covering La Giostra :)
Sulmona is definitely a precious jewel and very easy to fall in love with. Depending on when Easter is next year in that case, you may get to witness the fabulous Easter Sunday event of La Madonna che scappe

Wow, what an action video. So many people at the Giostra! Beautiful and to think I've never been there. Practically the entire historic center of the city is involved with so many people and flag wavers. Truly amazing and thank you for sharing this incredible celebration. See you soon!!!!!
The equestrian action was breathtaking as were the beautiful costumes on so many people taking part in the parade. What a spectacle. We loved every moment of it. Also the street parties afterwards into the early hours were quite something. Let's catch up soon. xx
I'm from Sulmona, thanks for this cool video. i don't konw if you know, but under Sulmona you can find the acinet city before Rome Age and during Rome Ege. Under Santissima Annunziata Palace, in the museum scetion, you can access to some ancient ruin of romain domus. Sulmona is vary ancient, was founded before Rome expansion, from Peligni one of the pre-italic population.
Nice video, I am from Boston, Massachusetts, but my great grandfather was born in Lanciano and when he was 18 went to Sao Paulo Brazil so cool to see where some of my past family heritage came from.

Corfinio is just as it always is: beautiful! Nothing changes much here but to be honest I've only driven through a few times to go to Raiano or to go to the cinema and aquapark since we made our film. Are you planning on visiting?

Hi there, we have done a long, long time ago. I think we should put it on our list but the list is so long as there are just so many places to explore in Abruzzo. Have you been to Rocca Pia?
Yes you can get insurance but it's incredibly expensive so most people don't bother. With the L'Aquila earthquake of 2009 property owners with damage received government funding up to around an 80,000 euro threshold for repairs per property/unit. If your property was a cultural heritage property then the government paid the full amount of seismic restoration. Best to buy a property that's had the seismic work done and then you don't need insurance.
We are coming to stay in July! finally!! We are in Sulmona for 6 days, then Pescara. Thanks for the extra information you provide for us. Very interesting and useful when working out which towns we want to visit.

The weather has been a little weird here too but not rainy dreary like in the UK. Yesterday it was really windy but it's incredibly warm. I've just popped out to the shop in jeans and a t-shirt but you can certainly also wear shorts now too! Probably still need a few more layers though if you are going up in altitude!

Thanks for posting this! My grandfather fought here in ww2 for Canada and luckily made it back home. I’ve always wanted to visit and pay homage to those young men.

Sorry for the late response. Yes each one of us in the family has used the healthcare system and it's mostly fantastic. Getting an appointment for certain things takes much longer now though than it did 5 years ago when we moved here and for certain things you can wait 6 months to a year. Even sometimes with private healthcare this was the case and so we no longer have that - can't afford it anymore anyway. However, for certain things you can just phone a clinic direct and ask for an appointment 'a pagamento' and they fit you in pretty much the next day. For example, I had an MRI scan on my knee 2 days after I called and it cost just 130 euros!
I thought of the same I was told after you become a resident you can sign up for Public healthcare, but I think that could be a while. For Emergencies I'd like a clinic in the town, for major health issues I think we will come return to the states as I plan to keep my healthcare insurance open. At least until I can find something affordable in Italy.

With regard to tours we have limited tours this year due to our renovation commitment and these are fully booked already. Hey, thanks for watching. This was earlier in the year. January. The snow has all melted now as we're having a really bad season. Campo Imperatore is open. Roccaraso, Ovindoli and Campo Felice have a small number of their pistes open. It's snowed a bit over the last week or so. Fingers crossed we may get a few more runs in!
