I know the USN paid for a Alaskan car ferry using the same tech for testing purposes. It looks like a wet ride in a good seaway and the clearance to the rear entrance of the landing ship looks like it won't allow anything greater than a 1.5m swell

you do know that between 10/01 and 01/03 most of the core Al Qaeda in Afghanistan were killed by the French, not the US. in February 02 two French Special Forces Sniper teams had bin Laden in their sights at less than 400 meters for over a hour , but the stupid US mandated Rules of Engagement made them need to request US approval to take the shot. by the time the US chain of command unfucked itself OBL was long gone. btw the two biggest battles of the American Revolution, Yorktown and Pensacola Bay, were French victories, not American.
