Best things about each of them: (I've seen all the adaptations) Yamaguchi: The OG, so obviously the standard. Juliani: His voice so sooooo pretty and mesmerizing Matsuyama: Nailed all of L's mannerisms, you can tell he put a lot of work into bringing the character to life Yamazaki: Gave the character a lot of sympathy, captivated the audience. Koike: Actually looks like L, and did pretty good mannerisms and NAILED the adorable smile. (Adorable without being overly precious, with a subtle creepiness) Anyways they all did a very good job, and even the actor in the Netflix movie, (IDK his name) is very talented and did his best with the script he was given

I agree with you. I've seen all the adaptations, too, and I think each actor portrayed L very well. They kept the character consistent with the original version, while adding their own spin on it too. LaKeith Stanfield played L in the Netflix movie. And yeah, even though the movie itself was horrible imo, Stanfield wasn't too bad as L. Thanks for watching!

As good as they all are, I agree that Matsuyama is one of the best. He really captures the voice, mannerisms, and character of L. He also played L in the movie L: Change the World. That was a really good movie too, imo. Thanks for watching!

@@mikasu6215 Here are the links to the movies. The first two links are for Death Note and Death Note II: The Last Name. There are a few changes of course, but the first movie follows the first half of the anime and the second one follows the second half. The third link goes to the movie L: Change the World. This is based on the light novel and follows L's last days. Matsuyama plays L in this movie, too. I went ahead and included the fourth movie, Light Up the NEW World, too Even though, this takes place 10 years after the events of the anime, so of course, Matsuyama is not in it, but just in case you wanted to see it anyway. I really enjoyed all four of these. They both did a good job in their own way, imo. Yes, Kenichi did a terrific job at playing L in the same way that he's portrayed in the anime. And he was really good in L: Change the World, too. I love Teppei Koike's portrayal of L. The ability to copy all of L's little quirks as well as his monotone voice is incredible to me. Also, he keeps a straight face while singing which is pretty hard imo

I agree. L: Change the World is really good and yeah, Kenichi Matsuyama does a great job at playing L. He plays him just like the character in the anime. The light novel that the movie is based on is really good, too. Even better than the movie imo, and I love the movie. Thanks for watching!

Bro Alessandro’s voice and Kenichi’s portrayal put together literally makes the perfect L!! I adore all of them equally though, especially Kento because he was the reason I got into Death Note in the first place :))

Out of the live action, Kenichi's L is the best to portray L. Plus the 2006 movie Last Name is the best adaptation.

Kenichi does look, sound, and act like the anime L and it's a really good portrayal of the character for sure. I do really like the Japanese movies from 2006, but the 2015 TV drama is my absolute favorite of the live-action adaptations. Thanks for watching!

L kento is so cute and handsome. But didnt potray L as detail like sit like L. Its the best trait for L. And it really make me a bit turn off. He is suit to be Near or Mello. But, L Kenichi is the real one. Hes sitting like L but still has good looking and introvert like attitude. The best L.

I like both Kenichi and Kento. I agree that Kenichi's version of L is the closest to the anime L. Even though Kento's version is different, I really liked his too because of how he put his own spin on the character. Plus, the TV drama is my favorite live-action adaptation of Death Note. Totally agree, Kento gives me N’s vibe rather than L. Kenichi’s L is still the best. And I really want them to try and make a TV series about Near or Mello. No need to remake over and over again the battle between L himself and Kira, they can renew the series by focusing on other characters instead. It is somehow inadequate to watch Death Note without L, but also tiresome to watch and find no better version of Kenichi’s L or Tatsuya’s Kira. Tatsuya’s Light is not handsome as I expected but he is still an attractive Light for me.

Nothing against the other actors but for me it’s not L without Alessandro Juliana voicing him. Plus in case you haven’t seen it I really recommend L change the World, it shows more of L’s human side Juliana really did a wonderful job voicing those moments and it damn near brought me to tears.

I've watched L: Change the World many times as well. It always moves me to tears at the very end. I ordered the light novel that the movie is based on. I just recently received it though, so I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Thank you for watching!

I like both of them as L, for different reasons. Kenichi played L more accurately to the anime character, which was great. And even though Kento's version was different, I like how he put his own spin on the character, too. Thanks for watching!

All of the actors are seriously amazing and each of them bring a certain something to their performances that make it a different experience than any other adaptation. If I had to choose a favorite though it would probably either be Alessandro Juliani or Teppei Koike. The musical was my gateway into Death note and Koike's acting really impressed me, it is no easy feat to sing with your chest deflated like that likely why he has to straighten his back for the high notes. As for Alessandro, he holds a lot behind that monotone I'm not usually one to cry because of an anime but the scene of him and light in the rain quickly followed one of my favorite lines of his "it'll be lonely, won't it?' break me. I haven't seen the movies yet but Kento Yamazaki's performance in the drama is also amazing there are several character changes but he made it his own and pulled it off really well.

I agree, they all did a really great job at portraying the character. The TV drama is my favorite live-action adaptation and I also really like how Kento Yamazaki brought his own uniqueness to the character. I like that Near was in the drama too and worked with L at first. If you get a chance, I recommend watching the Japanese iive-action movies. The movies are also available dubbed and the dubbed version is done by the same voice actors who voiced the anime characters in English. Teppei is my favorite as well, after watching him in the musical, I looked up all his other projects. Haha. Same with Megumi Hamada(Rem) she is so unbelievable!

@Cinni Harlan Yes, both of them are very talented. Of course all the actors in the musical are, but Teppei and Megumi both really brought their characters to life. Takeshi Kaga, who plays Soichiro in the musical, also played that same role in the Japanese live-action Death Note movies. Thanks for watching!

I like all of them. Kenichi Matsuyama was great and Teppei Koike was really good in the musicals. Still my favourite L is Kento Yamazaki. He acts and looks different from others, but he is really nice. I believed him when he told about being friends with Light and he really did his best trying to help him.

Every time Kento Yamazaki plays the main character, he always makes a big effort to get the audience invested in the character. I'm watching Alice in Borderland, I'm on episode three, Arisu's crying his eyes out and so am I. Like, I met all these characters an hour ago, why am I already so emotionally attached to them? Because Kento Yamazaki plays Arisu, that's why. When the man cries, you try too. That's just science.

I'm in the process of learning Japanese myself. It's cool to see or hear certain words and phrases and understand what they mean without needing subtitles. I still use subs, I not fluent enough to not need them at all, but I'm still able to understand some things without them. Thanks for watching!

I'm, still, deeply impressed by Kenichi Matsuyama as L, but seriously both Yamaken and Matsuken did their best for potrayed the role of L, they really give deep impression.. we cant really compare both of them because the movie and 2015 drama of L were adapted differently

I love all the different adaptions of the characters and the portrayals of L by each of the actors. It's cool to see how each actor takes the character. I will say I loved how English dub's expression, and yet monotone while he was speaking. The actor in the musical did an incredible job portraying his character while singing and such, and the drama actor added to his character really well with the script given to him (they made L a bit too full of himself, but its subtle enough to not notice. Also, Matsuda is even more bright and naive in the drama, which makes him another one of my top characters). All in all, I think each actor/voice actor did really well with what they were given.

I agree with you. Each of the actors was able to pull off a very good portrayal of L. The TV drama is my favorite live-action adaptation of Death Note, and the actors for each of the characters are some of my favorite versions of those characters. Matsuda is my favorite character in the anime, and also in each live version. I think all of the live-action actors for Matsuda also do a great job, but honestly, Goki Maeda, the one in the drama, is my favorite. His portrayal of Matsuda, is much closer to the character that we know from the anime, than the other actors. It is interesting to see how each actor portrays the characters so accurately, while also bringing their own style to it at the same time. Thanks for watching!

I really like L's English voice, too. The entire dub for Death Note is pretty good, imo. Which is rare for an anime. I agree with you, though. While the Japanese voice is not bad at all, the English voice does make L more interesting somehow. Thanks for watching!

That's my favorite live-action adaptation as well. I've watched it several times. Yamazaki did do a great job of playing L, I like how he kind of put his own spin on the character, too. Though honestly, I think all of the actors did a great job in portraying the characters. I especially like the interactions between Matsuda and Aizawa. But then they are my first two favorite characters from the anime and in this version, too. Thanks for watching!

Are you kidding? What the hell. Even if that is your opinion you're factually , logically and MORALLY incorrect/ wrong. Even if you are being serious that wouldn't make any sense as the L in the series didn't capture him very well at all. He's an intj and L in the anime is INTP. I really do hope you're joking as those are not my only points.

Of the live-action versions, he and Kenichi Matsuyama were the best. I really like the Japanese live-action movies, too, but the drama is my favorite. If you don't like it, that's fine as that's your opinion. But in my opinion, the TV drama is terrific and I just love it! Thanks for watching!

Sorry, I just now saw your comment. I posted the links below, but I have to give a separate link for each episode. The TV drama is on archive.org, but the site doesn't list it as Death Note. Instead the episodes are in separate collections called Extreme Mystery Solvers Collections. One episode in each. It can be hard to find the episodes, especially in order, so I posted the links to all 11 of them. The entire dub for Death Note is really good imo. They found voice actors whose voices sound similar to the original and the acting is really good too. Death Note is one anime that I can watch in dub or sub and enjoy it. Thanks for watching!

both Koike and Matsuyma are similar to L but the acting here is on Matsuyama's side. I just can't understand why they got the idea that the actors of European appearance should be Asian. Koki does not match the role of L in any way in terms of appearance or acting, he can went to Nia but not to L.although in the japanese adaptation he came close to L, but L did not play with food as often, and generally did not eat it as often, he was not so childish. Gestures were not always accurate, but in general the game is good.their game often flows into antics, and does not look like natural movements.matsuyama for a Japanese looks very similar, so this is probably the best

I'll include the links below. They are all on the same site. It's free and legal. There are two Death Note movies that follow the anime: Death Note and Death Note II: The Last Name. These were followed by L: Change the World, which is based on the light novel, where Matsuyama reprises his role as L. I'll also include the fourth movie, Light Up the NEW World. TBH, the anime(subbed not dubbed) is the best. The other versions are a bit weird, probably because I am not familiar with the japanese movies or the style in which they produce their movies and TV series.

To me, Kenichi Matsuyama in the movies did the best depiction of the anime L, but I like the different take on the character that Kento Yamazaki portrays in the TV drama. I might be a bit biased though, bc the TV drama is my favorite live-action adaptation of Death Note, lol. But of course, anime L is great as well. Definitely a good character. Thanks for watching!

I've got four links for you below. The first link takes you to all 108 chapters of the Death Note manga. The very last chapter was never included in the anime. The second link is to the Death Note epilogue. This was only included in the Death Note All-in-One edition of the manga. Third one is for the new one-shot that came out last year. And the fourth link goes to a couple of one-shots about L, from Watari's POV. This is canon and created by Ohba and Obata. Please let me know if any of the links don't work. There are actually a couple of ways to watch the 2015 TV drama free online. I'll include links below, but first some info on the sites. I apologize in advance, bc this might be a long post. One way is on kissasian. It's a legal site, but kind of click-baity. Yet, they have all 11 episodes. The second, and better option, is archive.org. It's completely free and legal, but the problem here is, they don't have the first episode, only eps 2-11. So you may want to watch at least the first episode on kissasian. Also, archive doesn't list it as Death Note. Instead the episodes are in collections called Extreme Mystery Solvers Collections. One episode in each. It can be hard to find the episodes, especially in order, so I'll post the links to each of them. I suggest watching the TV drama on archive.org instead, but since they don't have the first episode, that has to be watched on kissasian. I didn't include the Netflix movie in any of my character comparison videos since the Netflix movie was so horrible, lol. My opinon of course, but many, many other people also hate that version. Although, LaKeith Stanfield as L did a good job with the material he was given. And I will admit that Willem Dafoe as Ryuk was really good.

I used to think that, too, but something changed, and I think his dub voice fits him pretty well. Tired and just overall done with the world is how he sounds in dub, and I think it's pretty good.
