In this video you'll discover the nootropics benefits of L-Glutamine. Including why we use L-Glutamine as a nootropic, recommended dosage, side effects and clinical research. This is an update to the video I did on L-Glutamine several years ago.
L-Glutamine is a conditionally essential amino acid. And main precursor for the production of the neurotransmitters glutamate and GABA in your brain.
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in your body. And is involved in many bodily functions. But glutamate is the most abundant amino acid in your brain. The balance of these two is critical for optimal brain function.
The precursor relationship between glutamine and glutamate/GABA is often referred to in scientific and research circles as the Gln/Gly(GABA) cycle. This cycle accounts for more than 80% of cerebral glucose consumption.
So when you’re using nootropics like Resveratrol or PQQ to boost mental energy, much of that energy is going towards maintaining this Gln/Gly(GABA) cycle. When this cycle breaks down, all kinds of nasty things happen. Including Reye’s Syndrome, epilepsy, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, and alcohol addiction.
L-Glutamine also helps prevent brain aging. Studies have shown that traumatic brain injury, even the damage caused by just one concussion, disrupts this glutamine/glutamate cycle. Resulting in brain atrophy from abnormal glutamate levels.
When L-Glutamine levels are low you feel filled with dread, you’re constantly worried, you have racing thoughts, and you’re frequently late and disorganized.
Neurohackers who use L-Glutamine report improved quality of life, increased energy levels, reduced muscle aches, improved digestion and gut health, better quality of sleep, and less pain and fatigue. Cravings for sugar and alcohol decline. Improved performance during workouts and shorter recovery. And it's easier to lose weight.
As a nootropic, L-Glutamine can help improve alertness, concentration, focus, memory and mood.
The recommended L-Glutamine nootropic dosage is 2 - 5 grams per day.

I had great gut benefits from L-glutamine. Tastes good on food. Tasted a new batch made in september just today it's succulent ! L-Leucine is also great on food, it works similarly to monosodium glutamate I felt. Amino acids all have distintive tastes, the weirdest being L-ornithine and HMB ^^

The Nutrigenesis Multi for Men by Performance Lab bottle (and box) mentions B12+, E+, and C+, but it doesn’t specify if it’s cyanocobalamin or methylcobalamin, and for E+, it doesn’t mention if it’s dl alpha tocopherol acetate. However, it does say Folate+ instead of B9. The lack of clarity might be due to the nutrigenesis process? And is the + symbol a meaning of this process of growth (nutrigenesis)?
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 7 месяцев назад
See the FAQ page on Performance Lab because it takes a deeper dive in the form of each nutrient in that supplement. They grow these nutrients on different types of yeast and probiotics and the result is the same, organic natural form of that nutrient that you would get from food.

Thank you for your information, I supplement with several amino acids and will be adding L-glutamine and this should be on an empty stomach, correct?
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 7 месяцев назад
William, taking supplements on a empty stomach or with food can be very confusing. It take all of my supplements at the same time with a glass of water and tablespoon of unrefined coconut oil. And it works. The coconut oil activates the fat digestion part of your gut which takes care of the fat-soluble ingredients in my stack. And the rest are water soluble which your body takes care of naturally. The dosage of each is high enough that you do not need to worry about them competing for transporters.

Hello David do you know of any Melatonin supplements that are third party tested and do not contain hidden serotonin? I tried reaching out to a few companies but never received any responses, im a bit apprehensive about using melatonin i purchased from a local pharmacy, ive been having insomnia for many years and discvered i have a CLOCK gene mutation which causes my circadian rhythm to be easily disturbed, i tend to wake up throughout the night so a timed release melatonin is probably more effective but im not sure if it needs b6 to work
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 6 месяцев назад
I do not recommend using Melatonin for a number of reasons. One is you cannot verify that what it says on the label is what is actually in the capsule or tablet. And this has been verified by clinical studies. The other reason is your brain using only 0.5 - 0.8 mg melatonin per night And I am not aware of any verified melatonin supplement that has that low a dose. Your safest option for increasing melatonin is using L-Tryptophan that increases serotonin that goes on to make melatonin. Or use Montmorency Tart Cherry Juice that is a natural source of tryptophan and melatonin. But the juice must be pure and not a juice "blend".

I am an athlete and over the last few years, I have been becoming more anxious. so I tried L-glutamine on several occasions thinking that it would help me heal and relax, and every-time after about a week of supplementing I get terrible insomnia and panic attacks especially when i start working out. I wonder if there is something wrong with my brain

I sounds like you cannot use L-Glutamine. You are likely also allergic to MSG.

What does it mean when your body has too much of Glutamine? What causes that? I read somewhere that too much Glutamine kills brain cells. Is that true?
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 7 месяцев назад
It will not directly "kill brain cells". But if you have liver problems or kidney problems for whatever reason it could result in glutamine toxicity as explained in this study: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7069532/

Laura, they are not contraindicated. But that does not mean it is safe for everyone. Listen to your body and it will tell you if this combo is good or not.

“Apparently” L Glutamine can be involved in the growth of prostate cancer?😡 Having issues with prostate cancer myself (49 yr/old) this inclines me to hesitate on returning to supplementing with it. Knowing it’s the most abundant amino in the body kind of puts me in a damned if I do and damned if I don’t type situation. 😂😳
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 7 месяцев назад
Not entirely true. This study for example shows how L-Glutamine suppresses tumor growth: . pulse.ly/o4iy4pyn5n. I suggest doing a search for "L-Glutamine AND prostate cancer" and see if anything turns up.

Anne, some will react badly to a supplement that is no problem for the person next to them. Many times we don't know why. It could be genetic, issues with gut health, or enzymes that are not working or are missing. The best thing I've found if something doesn't work do not force it. Try something else.
