I have both, the EDT and the EDP versions in the previous bottle (which I prefer over the current more generic one) and, while liking the EDP, but for me the masterpiece is the EDT, I just love it and is one of my favourites ever. In fact it can be used as a signature scent thanks to its versatility so that you can wear it all year round: fresh yet warm (something in between), sophisticated yet some old school background feeling (something in between), all purpose yet classy and elegant (something in between)... In my opinion it's so difficult to get such a superb and equilibrated blend that, besides, stays right in the middle of everything (it simply shines in all occasions and weather seasons), that's precisely why this one is so versatile and a true masterpiece. By the way, many designer houses also use the best perfumers to create their fragrances, so don't underestimate them (I have wonderful fragrances from designer houses). It's like underestimating a Piaget or a Cartier watch because they are jewelry houses, or a Greubel Forsey or an F.P. Journe watch because they are "new" brands without a history behind like Patek Philippe, Breguet, Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Jaeger leCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, Ulysse Nardin, Girard Perregaux... yet those former watches are hand made in Switzerland by the most reputed watch makers in the world.
I'm also in my mid forties, and the older I get, the more I keep coming back to Guerlain. The pinnacle of what perfumery and fragrance is in my opinion.

I know you are not a fan to do top x lists, but please! I own and am crazy about my L'instant en Vertiver Extreme, but I am very curious about your (as I can imagine alot of other people) thoughts and description of the other "king" fragrances like: Vetiver(origional), Guerlain Homme, Habit Rouge, Héritage, Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat, Aqua Allegoria Limon Verde and maybe the "new" Ideal line to name a few :) Keep it up brother, you are amazing! BTW: Why do you have a Vetiver cap on the L'instant bottle? :)
Well spotted!! The cap is from a Vetiver Extreme bottle. I wont make that top 10 since it simply wouldnt be genuine as I am missing to many out of the vast number of fragrances they have. Impossible to cover

Your description of house of Guerlain and Lidg is spot on. Yes it belong with other masterpieces from the house and it belongs to new millennium. EDT is much nuanced than EDP or extreme. and it is the last great fragrance Guerlain released in my opinion. RIP Beatrice Piquet
I bought this in Paris in 2004. It was the most unique and enticing cologne I smelled in my life. My signature scent for years, although I don't like the look of the 2016 reissue bottle.
Just ordered the EDT along with Mitsouko EDP. By the way 1972 was a fantastic year! I was obsessed with the band T. Rex and this was their peak period!!
I had the original edt,when it was released,(75ml)never own the extreme version.I remember that it wasn’t an instant love,so i gave it to my friend.And i remember that many days after that i smelled it on him,and i didn’t know what was he wearing,just that he was smelling great...i was thinking in myself-uh what a fool I was:)...now it’s time to repurchase it after so many years....
Happy birthday from the future! Great review Chris. It's a little chalky for my taste, but definitely better than another citrus gourmand that comes to mind - HM by Hanae Mori. Both have that sparkling lemon at the top with a chocolate drydown but LiDG just has so much more depth. Nevertheless, I will definitely revisit it in time. See you in the next one!
Great fragrance my friend. I love this one. Another fragrance that unfortunately is discontinued that has same qualities with L instant even though they dont smell alike, is Attitude by Armani.

Love this one..Lemon & cacao 🤷♂️ ?? How can you go wrong with that combination..in my eyes this is a masterpiece..I also like the bottle design too it reminds me of the very art deco style empire state building in New York..
Lidge is my all time favorite. Lidg is great too. The new edp is like lidg. And I didn't even know there was a new edt too. The guerlain boutique - which has all the guerlain patrimony scents - has the new edp only. Go figure.
Very Nice review! I have, and love, the parfum version and actually never really gave the edt a good testing. Will be sure to check this one out also. Especially if the cacoa note is more subdued in this version.
agree ... i have 2014 version of EDP eau extreme ... and it´s unwearable fragrance ... very dusty and earthy ... EDT and the anise in the intro is Heavenly ... springtime/summertime ... simply wearable in any season and classy + pleasant

good observation. The bottle is a tester which came without a cap but I had an empty Vetiver Extreme bottle from which I took this green cap. Mystery solved:)
Hello Just bought the edt new reformulation and it smells amazing but the performance is very weak ... longevity 3 hrs max .sillage 30 mins max My bottle is 200% authentic i don't know what's going on here .any help is appreciated Nice review !

@@scentland4753 I bought L`Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme EDT, version 2016(new bottle) like you, I love it better than the EDP. It also has really good performance 8 - 10 hours. Great review, Masterpiece perfume!
