New 2020 Chevy 3500 Duramax injectors problems from day one! Truck was purchased October 2020 has had 8 injectors replaced,injectors pigtails replaced, now injector pump!
Let me give a little history on the truck because some thanks I’m miss leading information! 6k miles injectors 2-4 went down was replaced by the dealer. Between 10k 11k miles 3-7 injectors went down was replaced as well , 16k injector 2-4 went down again was replaced at that time. 23k miles injectors 5 -7 went down was replaced, at 34k injector 5 throws engine light again the replace 5 injectors harnesses. At 37k engine light again from injectors 5-7 they replaced all 8 of the injectors harnesses and updated the PCM & ECM . Engine light came back on 30 miles from the dealership and has been on every since. The fuel filter housing is full of metal now , that means fuel injector pump has failure . GM has done nothing to help with the down time that this truck has been down for. It’s been down total of 53 days and GM has ignored the problem and for the ones that thinks I’m miss leading them , you can come to me and I’ll show you all the documents in person because this has been well documented for those non believers!!

Wow i run L5P professionally 2- 2017 ‘s never had 1 issue with an injector. Towing freight east coast to west coast 750,000 miles on each truck and 15,000 hours of run time yes we sleep in them and idle them. The only issue is the dpf’s clog every 250,000 miles Take ‘em off call dpf solutions to have them cleaned at 70% clogg Had injector harnesses go bad that mimic a bad injector !!! bought aftermarket replacement harnesses fixed issue ….. now have 2-2020’s and 275,000 miles and no issues except same dpf clog’s.

I realize this is almost a year ago you commented but I've been thinking of purchasing either a 3.0 mini duramax 4x4 ( more so because of the fuel mileage they claim to get ) or the 6.6 in a single wheel 2500/3500 4x4. I am curious what your thoughts are with why your are having fantastic luck with 4 different units of two L5P vintages other then the dpf clogging ( and so far the way things are here a delete in Canada would take care of that ! ), yet this person and expect he isn't the only one that is having some major fuel system problems. I wouldn't have to get a diesel as I could get a guzzling gas job for what I mostly do with a pickup but it is tempting .. other then the completely insane prices of pickups period.
@AdventureMan-kx3dr

@@charlesb4267 these heavy duty trucks are designed for heavy duty work. Work the trucks as designed and no issues. Ride around stop and go and mainly just use it for riding around then all sorts of issues will appear. But using it the same way you would use a Honda ridge line to do is not using the truck as it was designed to do

@@AdventureMan-kx3dr I happen to farm so obviously am around diesel engines every where I turn with equipment as well as highway tractors and like you say diesels are not happy when they are puttered around short distances such as if one lives in a small town and its all short drives. My current truck which is a gas and its of a vintage where you better not sneeze or the transmission will fail nor does it have any power, I'd like something that can pull loads easily and also empty get decent fuel mileage as well. Its an hour drive to town for parts so I don't do much in the way of short runs, the old farm trucks do that duty around the farm. There are a LOT of diesel trucks up in this area, we have a major oilfield presence in northern Alberta and a lot of farmers get diesel pickups which is of no surprise either. I am surprised this GM owner given the same type of use as your trucks had all these problems but I have to wonder if that pump was the cause of all the injector replacements and they never figured it out until it cratered, I guess one will never know that answer. Believe me I go around in circles with what to choose in the way of gas or diesel and that matter Ford or GM ( I can't quite get myself to even walk into a Dodge dealership ). There is something that can't help but stick in the back of my mind and that is my brother had bought a brand new 1980 chev half ton with the lovely 350 olds diesel, its 43 years later and he still will comment on that horrid decision, he finally pretty much gave the pickup away just a few years later with low miles on it before it decided to blow up. Ironically years later he bought and still owns a 2006 F350 dually with you guessed it, the 6.0 diesel and he only uses it during the summer with a truck mounted camper and pulling a smaller TJ jeep behind. He initially had some problems as per the truck quitting and having it towed and was an oil pressure sensor for the high pressure fuel system but then the big one ... the EGR failed and luckily noticed the truck was trailing white so towed to a shop and they did the EGR delete and the fancy head stud deal and the engine has been ok since. He likes the truck and the diesel power but always that nagging feeling from what had happened !. Now everything, gas or diesel is a maze of complexity from one end to the other of vehicles.

I had a 2017 2500HD - Duramax, I filled the same thing and got a really good Lemon Lawyer and won the case. They bought back the truck and also got a cash payout also for my issue. Big thing I learned is that you need to fill before the factory warranty runs out. If you do it when the extended warranty is good it is a little harder but can be done. I know have a 2020 GMC 3500 Duramax with 18,000+ mikes and have NO issues.

I had major transmission issues with my Ford and Ford refused to buy it back after it was “fixed” 3 times and spend more than half the time I had it in the dealers shop. My dealership bought the truck back for what I paid for it to get me out of the problem. All the manufacturers are like this. Have a good relationship with your dealership because they can really make things happen for you. I just got one of these 2020 L5P’s ….🤞🏻

If the same thing that happened to this gentleman would happen to you, how would you feel. If 1 out of 10'000 trucks has this problem it could be a problem with tooling in the assembly line. Either way GM is making tons of profit (especially when their vehicles are made in Mexico). They are responsible and can afford replacement of the truck or the engine for this man. I have been on the market for a 3500 and with all the stories I keep seeing on the internet about the problems people are having with GM, I've decided never to own one. Rams are even worst. Not a single Ram truck is made in America. FCA can Ram their trucks right up their ass (metaphorically speaking anyway). GM and FCA took bailout money and till this day, they still owe us money.

Thanks for the heads up, I hope it worked out for you.I know Enterprise truck rental is more than a truck payment. But y'all might need to try the truck out for 6 months and then buy the truck from them in the end if it turns out to be a good truck. If it breaks down they will replace it without all the down time of you having to take it in to get fixed. A 1996 half ton Gmc taught me to step away from GM. I had so many problems with it that I did not want to sell it to anyone else. I still have the truck 26 years later with only 103000 miles on it. No telling how many GM parts I had to replace with aftermaket parts to keep it running. Same GM parts kept going bad. I keep tow insurance on it and try not to drive it more than 50 miles from home. This EPA mess has really caused a lots of problems. Everybody needing a diesel to go get local take out burgers because of their little man syndrome has not helped also needing to blow smoke to get people to notice them. Sad so sad the EPA has also maked the fram tractors a mess to keep runing. I am staying with my JD4630 46 years old, put diesel in, make sure it has antifreeze keep good battiers, hit the key and hold on and get work done.

Don't buy a Ford diesel. Had a 2015 F-350 6.7 motor replaced at 48900 miles. Under spec compression in # 2 cylinder. Dealership didn't know why but it warranted replacement. Got it back and drove it for 2 weeks. Traded for a 2019 Ram 3500 dually. Couldn't be more pleased. It does have the CP 4.2 fuel pump problem but Ram is taking care of this problem. Biggest help for any diesel is adding a additive that has a lubricity property. Hotshot Secret EDT and LX4.

I almost got a '20 Duramax back in December, ended up going with a Ram 2500 Cummins because I found out a friend of mine I used to work with worked at the dealership and hooked me up with a better deal. 4600 miles so far and no issues. Seen several videos of problems with the '20 GMs, glad I went Ram. After they denied the case and the issue came back I would have told them to either buy it back or they could expect a call from a lemon law attorney. My Dad had a similar issue with a truck, just like you they denied the claim saying it was fixed but the issue was still there, even the service manager said so. He got a lawyer and about a month later had a brand new truck, they even paid the attorney fees.

I had a 18 ram 2500 cummins. Had some weird issue with “multi cylinder misfire”. I asked the dealer about it when they had it 4-5 times same issue and over 2 weeks. The dealer said I could trade in or Ram “might” give me whats it’s worth after depreciation. This was the #2 guy at the dealership mind you, and not a small one at that! I laughed and found a lemon law attorney. He looked it over and went to war with it. We put almost 50k miles on the that truck. It was amazing minus the constant engine light issue btw, and Ram bought it back for full price. The only issue I will say I had with them after that was that the truck went to auction in MI and someone bought it from that dealership. Check the state rules if you buy used!

I have a '20 Sierra 2500 Diesel Denali with 55k on the meter, bought it used couple months ago. Currently broke down with it and our RV states away from where we live. Cannot get a service appointment anywhere around us at a GMC dealer. They're telling me could be weeks to look at or fix. WTF!!! I've got extended warranty on top of factory warranty, Onstar full subscription w/Roadside Assistance and they won't tow our RV, just the truck. Anyway, the truck is running so rough the engine is shaking the entire truck. When it first started happening I was on the highway with cruise at 65mph, felt like the axle on the trailer came apart or locked up or blew a tire because the vibration became extreme. But then realized it was the engine running rough. Another thing I noticed is that the truck started going through DEF really fast. I got a message that I had 999 miles left and then 15 minutes later it said 222 miles left. Also, once I parked the truck the gauge said I had half a tank of DEF but my phone's app was giving me a low DEF alert. So I looked it over, the hose clamp on the black box on top that says "Duramax" was loose. I thought maybe it was sucking air there and that was the cause, so I tightened the clamp and took the truck for a drive without the RV. It was still doing the shaking/vibrating, so I thought maybe the DEF DPF regen was clogged up or something, so I ran the shit out of it (first time ever getting on this truck and wow is it fast for as big as it is), sooo that sort of seemed to help, but now even at idle the truck goes from running perfectly smooth for about 5 seconds to running rough and shaking the entire truck for 5 seconds and back and forth. Any ideas anyone? I have no clue about diesels, this being my first and the GMC garages are bending me over.

So metal from the injection pump has been been circulating through the system and grenading injectors. That's a simple enough explanation of the problem. Could have been a rogue pump from the start. You have to keep in mind that with a brand new design which the l5p is, 90-95% new design from the ground up, that there's gonna be bugs in the system. They swapped pump brand and injector brand. I think you need to talk with gm headquarters yourself. It's the grand old saying. If you want something done right you need to do it yourself. Not sure if this idea would work, but don't get it fixed. Then bring your case to gm. Should be irrefutable evidence at that point. Gotta realize also that every dealer isn't owned by gm. The dealer owner could be playing games with you just as much as the next guy would. That's why I'd suggest talking with gm headquarters yourself. Circumvent the dealerships and talk with the head honcho directly. The farthest thing I'd do is run to ford to save the day. I hear just as much B.S. about dealer experiences at ford. Heck, dodge is probably the same way. Customer service is a thing of the past.

I agree with you on Custumer service! The replaced the pump all 8 injectors and fuel rails !! Flush the system and still throwing injectors after all this was done. I’ve own dodge and Chevy I figured I’d give Ford a try. I contacted the headquarters of GM and got a run around from hell and back. I’m going to make updated video that will be posted week or so kinda give a rundown what has completely has been done. So keep eye out. Thanks for comment and hit that Subscribe button for me.

worked 5 years at a Dealership, they're all privately owned franchises, but one time Ford did send an Engineer to the dealership to go for a ride with a customer trying to do a buy-back due to a vibration. This customer had spent months calling Ford and bitching to our service dept before the Engineer finally came out.. sadly in the end the Engineer claimed they could not feel the vibration on the test drive... remember the customer getting very angry and threatening, which really ended up hurting the customer in the end... Ford never bought it back.

Ugh, what a PITA. Curious if lube additive was used in the fuel, and if so what brand and the amount used. I believe every diesel owner must use lube additive with each and every fill up, because low sulfur American diesel fuel sucks that bad. When you get your new Ford 6.7, make sure to feed it a good fuel additive. Terrible that an expensive new truck has this issue, but they all have this issue to some degree. I have a '17 Canyon diesel, 55K miles trouble free so far, but it has gotten a stiff dose of Optilube in it's fuel from day 1. The injectors on the 2.8 diesels are known to sometimes stick open, which often torches a hole in the piston, obviously a serious issue. Have not seen fuel pump failures with the 2.8s, on the forums, but injector issues for sure. So silly they kept replacing injectors on this truck with no thought as to what was causing them to go bad. Of course the injectors died after the fuel pump sent tiny metal shavings to the injectors at 30,000 PSI. It is not like GM (and the other makers) have not seen this before. The euro makers pulled their diesels from the US market because of our fuel, Mercedes had a ton of injector failures here in the US that they did not experience in Europe. Funny thing with the little diesels, originally the "diesel supplement" manual recommended against fuel additives. Now the manual has been updated with what we knew all along, recommending additives, of course they want you to buy GM's version.

I'm trying to figure out how you have metal in the fuel filter from the injection pump if the injection pump and and injectors are downstream of the filter housing?
@DanBCooper
@DanBCooper 2 года назад
most of the fuel fed to the *high pressure pump* and injectors is returned to the tank on diesel engines. So if the high pressure pump starts to come apart it will send metal back to the tank, then obviously refed to the fuel supply where the fuel filter will capture it.

Dealership, they want $1800 to change 1 injector, $5500 for 4 and $ 11000 to do 8. that’s Canadian $$.
