Did it last year and the high was 42 deg C! I did it in 2000 as well and we went over the Croix de Fer then. Great footage bringing back awesome memories and the new route looks great!
Really nice footage! But since you started with the Ultrafondo riders at 5:00 am, why didn't you complete the entire Ultrafondo course? I was looking forward to seeing your coverage of the Sarenne piece...
The heat was causing me problems and I chose to end it on top of the Alpe, quite a lot of people did the same or even stopped at the bottom. A few tough riders did complete it so I’ll have to try again another time.
Great video. The descent to the start line in pitch black looks positively sketchy! Though what happened in the final ascent of Alp D' Heuz? Marmotte is on my radar, maybe '24, more likely '25. A couple of former work colleagues did it about 10yrs ago. Can I ask what sort of training did you do for it? I've done a few centuries over the years, but nowhere near the amount of climbing this would require.
Yeah i was nervous about the descent but it was so quiet it was actually quite enjoyable. As for training, a lot of zone 2 work and as much climbing at sustainable pace as you can. I did around 12-15hrs a week for 6 months.
