How does ceramic plates expire ? I think only kevlar does because its woven fivers and they soften up overtime

@@redeye8526 most of the poly plates have an expiration. Even the poly/ceramic plates have an expiration date. 5 to 15 years or better depending on the manufacturer

@@redeye8526 if you dont drop ceramics they will be fine even after years. The guy from Forgotten weapons did test of obsolete esapi and sapi plate, both stopped more than were rated for (AP M2 for SAPI, and russian 7,62x54R AP-I for ESAPI). So inserts are fine if: kevlar don't get water/moist, poliethylene doesnt get to much heat, ceramic dont get shattered.

I don't think most people appreciate how nasty M193 is out of a 20" barrel. It's scary stuff, considering it's lead core. Imagine if it had a penetrator

Ditto to what the others have said. Got LA Police Gear ceramic level 4 plates and I'm happy with them. As for side plates, I am going with 3A polyethylene soft armor. Less weight, more flexibility and more coverage. Those side plates are miniscule.

Time to set up another level IV plate carrier. So far I have RMA 1155 in a Veritas carrier, BAO swimmers cut level IV in a Formosa carrier, this is going into a Crye Precision airlite or JPC 2.0

Ive really been considering adding armor to my kit. NV was the big addition this year, As Thermal was 2020's addition. I guess armor will be 2021's addition. This stuff has gained my attention also. The times we are living in have definitely changed, ten yrs ago I was one that said unless your are in that line of work, you probably don't need armor. How quickly times have changed.

@@Pyle81 100% a gimmick. No ranges in my area are open after dark. You'd have to own a lot of land to shoot in or go to federal lands to shoot after dark. Maybe over time NODS can be advanced enough to use in daylight and low light but they aren't there yet. The definition of a gimmick is something with an extreme niche use, which NODS are.

@@Pyle81 Also, you forgot body armor and kit which is relatively cheap and saves lives, but $4,000 to shoot paper and steel targets at night was worth it?? You could literally shoot steel and paper with your eyes closed and still hit if you practice on them enough.

And BTW, The Trijicon M250XR was $9,000.00 and my Pulsar AxionXQ-38 was $2400.00 And I paid for both of those in less than 6 months killing coyotes and nuisance control work. The only paper target shooting around here is, When I sight the optic in. Did you read the story where the AZ Game &Fish and NPS want 200 Bison removed?? And wanted it done free by "Skilled Hunters" Well that plan got shit canned before one permit was issued. Now US Fish &Wildlife and the USD-AG are going to be contracting it out to Federally Approved shooters. And we have to contract removal of 80% or more of the carcasses WITHOUT the use of mechanical equipment. In other words there's going to be a helicopter flying them out to a separate location to be butchered and processed. Hopefully this will off set the cost of the air support. Thats the kind of work we do with NV and Thermal. The body armor is to keep from getting killed by the methheads and heroin users that are becoming more and more politik as this inept administration keeps handing out/printing $$$ every day, to people that don't want to work.

Hey Mike, have you considered shooting your armor at 45 feet instead of the current 15? I believe that 45 feet (15 yards) is the distance that the NIJ shoots their armor. Five yards is a little close.

likely because it has a .300" thick ceramic strike face, and surplus M2AP doesn't meet the NIJ spec for 2880 fps :)

LAPG plates are just tested to the level. They are not CPL listed (aka "certified")

PLEASE READ. Can you please check out and do a review on CarrabineQuarterMasterArmor? I tested a 3A from them. Shot it nine times with 9mm, three times with 38spl, one with a 12g, and one 6.5 Carcano round. Zero penetration. Don't believe me, it's on their FB. It bent the 6.5 in half. They have incredibly tough armor, and some great products. It's what I use when I go out. But unfortunately it's a smaller, newer company, so no one knows about it.
